Total Koatings Inc. is your local family owned & operated bathtub & shower refinishing company since 2006. Our exclusive & proprietary Non-Toxic Porcelain glaze bonds permanently to all styles of bathtubs, shower stalls, wall tile, sinks and counter tops. No acid-etching is necessary so there's no toxic health risks! If your tub, shower or tile is worn-out looking, impossible to clean, damaged by stains or rust, or simply the wrong color ... refinishing rather than replacing (if removing is even possible) could save you thousands of dollars! Bathroom surfaces have a 5 year warranty against cracking & peeling and kitchen sinks have a limited warranty. Our franchisor, Kott Koatings, started the bathtub refinishing industry over 60 years ago and there's over 500 franchisees in 51 countries. Our Porcelain glazes were developed in a lab specifically for these applications and are proven totally safe and non-toxic, unlike epoxy and urethane paint finishes. We are licensed and insured. .....but then we found TOTAL KOATINGS on Angie's List. The reviews looked positive and we were encouraged by the fact that they would be able to remove the peeling, flaking remains of the prior coating and replace it with a more durable coating. We researched the "Kott Koating" that they use and were happy to find that it chemically bonds to the tub surface to create a porcelain like finish and doesn't just lay on top like a coat of paint (like the previous job we had done). We certainly felt, that for the price, it was worth a try. So we called to schedule an appointment.
Initially there was a little scheduling snafu. However, it was quickly remedied and re-scheduled within the week.
The Total Koatings representative arrived as scheduled, and went right to work. It was a yeoman's job to remove all that nasty old coating off the tub, but after 3-4 hours he had it off and sanded smooth, and ready to re-coat. (Also, in spite of all that scraping and sanding, he kept that bathroom tidy and clean!) He masked and taped off the tilework and surrounding area, set up a ventilation hose to the outside to reduce fumes, and got to work on the actual re-coating. The re-coating step was the quickest part of the process. After he finished, he cleaned up all the masking paper and tape, and re-swept the floor.
Our Total Koatings rep (who was very nice, extremely hardworking and professional) told us how to care for the finish easily with Dawn dishwashing liquid (no bleach or harsh chemicals which will etch and harm most porcelain finishes).
The finished bathtub is beautiful, crisp, bright white, and super shiny! We are delighted!
We've only had the new tub finish for a few months, so it's early to say how it will hold up over the long haul. However, Just looking at the Total Koating finish we can see this product actually looks like we bought a new tub with a porcelain finish. It also feels like porcelain glaze (the previous coating just felt and looked like glossy white paint...with drips!). We would be very surprised if the finish doesn't hold up very well.
We would highly recommend Total Koatings to anyone looking to update their bathroom colors or re-do their bathtub (even tubs that are flaking and peeling from previously botched jobs by other companies). It is a great way to get a fresh new tub without an expensive remodel!
