BEWARE: ProFloors Brian Conrad demolished our floors and walked off the job – leaving us with a house full of debris and no one to finish this project. Do NOT hire this company! Brian Conrad breached the contract that my wife signed with him for a large project (installation of 2500 square feet of travertine tile) and left us in a terrible situation. Brian seemed very honest and trustworthy when he visited our home many months ago to provide a bid. He assured us that he had many years of experience and excellent ratings, and that he could handle this job. After we accepted his bid, the problems began. He first came back to us saying that he didn’t calculate the cost of thin set materials for travertine tile properly and that he would need to increase the contract amount by $1200. We agreed to this price adjustment as a show of good faith. (He later tried to get further price increases, which we would not agree to.) Then the demolition subcontractor that he hired caused unnecessary damage to our home after failing to prep everything properly. Brian was not on site to oversee this work, despite his promises that he would be. Then we faced a tile supply shortage that delayed the project by a few months (this was not Brian’s fault). As another show of good faith, we paid a substantial deposit so that he could purchase materials in advance and not face price increases while we were waiting for the tile. After the tile was delivered, we scheduled a date for the installation. From this point on, there were multiple delays and missed appointments for all kinds of claimed reasons, including finishing other clients’ jobs, various personal obligations, and numerous medical problems for him, his family, and his crew members. We are sympathetic people, but after so many excuses, you start to wonder if any of them are true. He routinely made promises that he could not keep, all the while assuring us that the quality of the work would be excellent and that we would be happy with the finished tile installation. When my wife expressed concerns about his ability to handle the project (which would have been an easy time for him to back out of the job if he was in over his head), he assured her that he was fully committed to our project and that everything would turn out fine. When the tile installation finally started, it was clear that the subcontractors he partnered with did excellent work. Unfortunately, the installation work that Brian did was substandard and needed to be repaired before the subcontractors could continue (this was not just my wife’s opinion – his subcontractors confirmed that the quality of his work was unacceptable). This occurred on the third day of a job that was anticipated to take 2-3 weeks to complete. Brian agreed to fix the problem and assured us that everything would be fine going forward. The next morning, the subcontractors showed up at our house and acted like everything was fine. But after 20 minutes, my wife discovered that they had loaded up all of the equipment (which was being kept in the garage) and left without saying anything to her. At that point, she contacted Brian to find out what was happening and he ultimately confirmed that he was no longer willing or able to finish our project (claimed it was due to illness). Seriously? He didn’t just walk off the job and leave us to clean up his mess. No, he instructed his subcontractors to sneak off without even bothering to tell us. After we threatened to take legal action for breach of contract, he lamely offered to search for another travertine installer on Angie’s List, Thumb Tack, or Home Advisor. So now we are stuck with a house full of demolished floors, a garage full of travertine tile and debris, and no one to finish this project. I’m attaching photos so that you can see what you might end up with if you hire Brian Conrad.
