I contacted this company on Tuesday morning after my fridge stopped cooling properly on Monday. I had taken the food out to prevent loss. I asked the company spokesperson if I should defrost the machine, but was told no that the repairman would want to see it as it was. I had not heard from the company by late Tuesday, called and was told for the first time that they put air conditioners in first priority, and that they tried to get refrigerators done on day two during periods when they were so busy with A/C's, and that they planned to get to me on Thursday. Late Thursday, I still had not heard from them so I called and was told that the repair man was on the way. About 5:30 the man showed up and took a few minutes to defrost the machine. After defrosting, he tested the defrost thermostat and stated that it was bad. He replaced the thermostat and put the machine back together. He then told me that the repair might not be complete because the defrost timer (a printed circuit board) could also be bad but that he would have to order it because he didn't have one on his truck. I informed him that I'd wait and see if the machine worked before ordering another part that might not be needed. He recommended watching it for a week to 10 days to see if it iced up again. I inquired about the bill and he told me that I would be billed and left the house. A few days later, I got the bill for $132.00: $65.00 for the service charge, $35.00 for 30 min. of labor, and $32.00 for the thermostat. About two weeks later, sure enough, the fridge froze up again. I got online to a parts outfit and ordered the defrost timer I needed for about $50.00. It came two days later and I had it installed within 45 minutes myself and have had no more problems. I feel that the $95.00 I was charged for the service call and 30 minutes labor was excessive, especially due to the fact that the machine was not completely repaired.
Description of Work: The repairman replaced the defrost thermostat on my Maytag refrigerator. He first took the back out of the freezer compartment, defrosted the machine, and then measured the resistance on the defrost thermostat. He then replaced the thermostat, put the machine back together, and left.
