"Thank you for your business and the kind words regarding Mel. I've looked into the permit delay. It was a simple change in what the county required us to fill out in the paperwork. Going forward that will be taken care of. Once again thank you for choosing Superior Fence & Rail. Regards, Todd Owner"
The sales woman (Judy) came out on 1/28/15 and walked me through the process and all my options. She wrote up the contract, we signed it and we were good to go. There was a little delay because I had to submit all my paperwork and request approval from my HOA - which I received on 2/13/15 - and IMMEDIATELY called Judy to let her know we had the "go ahead" to move forward with the work. At that time, she let me know we were looking at 6 weeks. I was shocked. Probably my fault for not asking for a time frame before I signed the contract, but I was still surprised we'd be waiting that long. To me, her telling me "6 weeks" meant I'd have a fence up and installed in 6 weeks. That was not the case.
About 4 weeks went by, and I emailed Judy on 3/12 asking for an update on the timeline. She had no news for me.
On 3/27, I emailed her again to see if we had a date for installation. Her response, "Getting there, but not yet".
At this point, it has been 6 weeks since I gained approval from my HOA and gave Superior the green light on the project. 6 weeks and still no date for installation.
I let another week go by, and on 4/6, I called the main office asking to speak to a manager. Tom called me back and finally told me they expect to get to me by 4/17 or 4/20. That's about 9 - 10 weeks from the date I gave them approval for the project.
4/20/15 - I called Tom again for an update. I was told we were on for this week - probably the end of the week. The project is expected to take 2 days, and they won't know for sure when they will be here until the day before.
4/22/15 - I called Tom again for an update. I was told the truck was backed up and will probably be on site for Tuesday 4/28. Apparently because we ordered "pewter" it takes longer to get the supplies, and there was a delay in shipping.
4/27/15 - I called Tom again. (Do you notice the trend here - I'm always calling them, THEY NEVER CALLED ME!!!!). I left a message - he called back stating yes, we were on for tomorrow and to expect the workers mid morning.
4/28/15 - Workers showed up around NOON. The weather was horrible - thunderstorms and pouring rain. They couldn't do much, but they did take some measurements and laid a bunch of materials. I can't blame them for the weather.
4/29/15 - Workers arrived around 8:00 and got right to the job. In the afternoon, I realized they were not installing one area properly, but I was lucky to catch it in time for them to fix it. At this point, they also gave me some bad news - My 3 gates were not shipped with the materials. Because we ordered pewter, remember, it's special order - so it's going to take at least a week to come in. The guys doing the work were great - they worked hard and got as much done as they possibly could. They were polite, on time, and excellent to work with.
5/5/15 - I called Tom for an update on the gates. The gates were in Orlando and he expects the guys to be back to finish the job on Friday.
5/8/15 - Well, I never thought this day would come. The fence is finally installed. There were a few minor issue - they did not send enough gate posts, so they had to use the other posts. So now the posts have holes in them. Honestly I'd love for them to rip them out and fix it, but is the hassle working with this company worth it? Probably not. I told him to leave it as is. There's also an area where we had a gate installed that is installed kind of funky - because apparently Judy (the sales woman) should have noted in her contract that there was a slope in the area for the gate - as special materials needed to be ordered. The bottom line: Would I use this company again? No. Would I recommend anyone to ever hire these folks for anything? No. Their price was in line with what everyone else quoted me, and the quality of the actual fence seems fine. They just literally finished installing it about a half hour ago though, so I can't comment on it's longevity. In rating them on responsiveness - it's definitely an "F" - they never once picked up the phone to call me or sent me an email in all the time I was waiting for the job to get done. Do not expect them to contact you for any reason. You'll never talk to them unless you do the heavy lifting. Punctuality I give them a "F" - The actual workers were on time and great. As far as the main office having a clue about how to schedule jobs, they get an F. At one point I was told "This is construction, we don't know how long the job is going to last". Are you kidding me? You should absolutely have an estimate of how long a job should last in the construction industry! You should know if a job is going to take a week vs 2 days and be able to make some kind of plan for jobs that you have lined up.
Professionalism - I give them a "D" - because again, the guys who did the actual work were excellent, and I'd hire them again. But the professionalism in the office - from sales, all the way up to "Tom" was horrible. I never felt important, and a customer should ALWAYS feel important - no matter how big or small the job is. And a $6,000 job is not a small one - at least not in my books.
I did get $100 credit for my "hassle", but only after having to ask for it 3 different times. The entire experience has been exhausting, expensive, frustrating, and disappointing. This is our first major project on our new home, and I certainly hope the rest of the vendors we work with treat their customers better.
In my mind, getting an ?A? rating is easy:
- Charge a fair price.
- Perform the work at the agreed date.
- Take pride in your workmanship.
Unfortunately, Superior fence failed on all the above criteria. Without getting bogged down in details (job started way late, fence installed 180 degrees backwards, damage to the house, etc.), this is a summary of what we learned by dealing with Superior:
1) No communication between office and sales
2) Cannot hit commit dates
3) Fair workmanship
I firmly believe this was due to the lack of professionalism/communication by the salesperson, and her failure to follow up once she had the deposit in her hands.
We have used Angie?s List many times in the past, and have given ?A? ratings to 99% of the folks that had performed work for us, but Superior (Fence) is nothing more than adequate. We highly recommend shopping around before settling on doing business with this company.
"I am perplexed by this review. Our sales person Judy, signed a contract with the customer and yes she did accidentally put the wrong year, but I don't believe there was any malice involved. This customer was installing a pool, so we could only install the fence once he was ready for us. He contacted us and said he would need the fence installed the following week. Our manager, Tom told him that we needed more notice than that, but we would try to get it installed the following week but could not promise it. At that point, the customer wrote an extensive scathing letter to myself, the president. I called him up and had what I thought was a pleasant conversation. I told him we would get the fence installed for him the following week, and if he had any issues to please contact me on my cell phone. We moved around our schedule and sent our installer Mike out there to install the fence on Thursday and Friday. Mike received a $100 tip upon completion. The specialty caps were on back order and the gate did not have the appropriate pool latch. We told him we would be back the following week. Mike was told by the customer, it wasn't a big deal. Mike also gave him his cell phone number in case he had any issues. We returned on Monday and collected a check. Mike did not install the latch because he figured he would do it when he installed the caps later in the week. On Tuesday, we received an Angie's List review. The review was an A but with scathing remarks. We sent Mike back out the next day to put on the Latch. On Thursday we received the specialty caps and installed them. That same day we received another e-mail with a Punch List that stated he would pay us after the punch list was completed which was strange since he had already paid us in full on Monday. We later found out that he had cancelled the check. We returned on Friday and Saturday to complete the punch list at which time he wrote us a check for the total minus a $35 check cancellation fee. Tom spoke with him over the phone and told him that was not acceptable since he had decided to cancel the check not us. We told him that he should also be careful in the future canceling a check, as it is considered a felony the same as writing a bad check, at which point he got very upset and told Mike it was going to be his job bring us down. I have tried to contact the customer several times but to no avail. From my point of view we installed the fence in the short window he gave us, every time we were contacted we were out there by the following day, he gave $100 tip to the installer. He had our personal numbers to contact us. I'm not sure what else we could have done."
Judy was my salesperson and I must tell you that she not only sells their product but also helps with coordinating installation dates and any other questions that we may have had! She is very knowledgeable of their product. I had to call Judy 4 different times in one week to reschedule the fence installation because of delays by the pool company which was caused by the weather!
I must tell you that Judy (sales representative, Lewis (installer) and Tom (supervisor) were very courteous, helpful and flexible to my needs! I highly recommend Superior Fence and Rail to anyone who is looking to hire a company to install a fence! Every aspect of the job was top notch from start to finish! Definitely and A plus with respect to quality, professionalism and service!
I had a couple more estimates from other companies but Superior's was not only the lowest price but the most complete process. Everyone I had contact with from Superior Fencing was polite, professional and thorough. I signed the contract with Ms. Wargo on July 1, 2014, with the understanding that it would be 4 - 6 weeks before the fence would be installed. This was fine with me because I needed to clear the back property line and part of the left side property line of yard materials.
Sometime the week of 8/4/14, Louis, an installer from Superior Fence came by to see exactly where the gates would be installed so he could order the large gate. I asked when he thought they would start the installation and he stated probably the following Monday. Louis was at my house late the morning of 8/11/14. I was getting ready to go away but showed him a couple of places I had concerns about. When I got home he had finished putting in all the posts. On 8/12 he returned with another installer and put up all the chain link and gates. They did a terrific job and the yard looks great. Louis and the other man, whose name I did not get, were professional, friendly and hard workers. They were working in temperatures way in excess of 90 degrees both days.
After that "Ms.Judy Muller" called me and asked what I want?
Next day she came my house and she explained about fence(Vinyl, Wood and Chain-link) etc.
She is the best sale consultant. I never seen before like her. She is the best.
We did the contract agreement with her company. And we have to wait about a month she said because she have to apply permit to city wait for the schedule for installer.
The installer guy "Mr.Louis" he did the great job. I can't believe he did by self about 2 days.
I called Superior Fence to request a quote, and Judy came out to my house within a couple of days. She took the measurements, but more importantly spent a bit of time going over the product options, the quality levels, and installation quality and process. I elected to go with their premium product. The premium product fence panels were actually 6 feet from the bottom of the panel to the top. The other quotes I received were for fence panels that were actually 5' 8" (claiming the 6' was to the top of the post) or 5' 10" (claiming the 6' was from the ground to the top of the panel). Also, the premium product had tighter lattice work for more privacy than the other options. The price was slightly higher than the other quotes I received; however, none of the other quotes actually had the full 6' panel with the aluminum brace and tight lattice. If they had quoted the exact same fence, I believe it would have been just as much if not more. I signed the contract and gave a 50% deposit. Judy took the paperwork (survey, HOA approval, etc.). I noticed that the building permit was applied for the next day.
The building permit was issued and I contacted Tom to schedule the installation. I was disappointed to hear that the product had not yet been received. This was a bit of a concern to me. I assumed that the product would be ordered immediately based on the 50% deposit and the building permit took about 3 weeks. They may have waited until the building permit was issued, but I don't know. I do understand that I ordered the premium product, which has less demand than the standard product. The product arrived about two weeks after the building permit was issued, and they called to say they would be installing it the next day.
I met the installer who made quite an impression on me. This was the most professional, respectful, and courteous installer you could imagine. I went over a couple items with him, and he simply said yes sir. I had 100% complete confidence that it was going to be installed exactly the way I wanted with all my concerns addressed. So I left for work. He worked all day (a long day) to finish it. My wife said he didn't even take a break for lunch. This guy was intelligent and had a tremendous work ethic. The fence looks beautiful. The gate is smooth, closes automatically, and has a tremendous fit and finish. They called it in for final inspection the next day, and of course it passed.
I highly recommend Superior Fence and hope you are able to get the same installer I had.
What a nightmare I will never use them or recommend to any one I like.
Overall, community is happy with the work.
