Terrible.
I wallked in after getting flat tire and walking all the way to Bob's Shop to fix a flat tire (about 5 miles) . Bike mechanics met me and assured me they could help me with my flat tire, they were comforting and helpful just when I needed support. I told them i didn't have money with me but they offered to help right away. They didn't know me but they were respectful and understanding. i told them I ride long distances and i ride often. I have been a customer for over a yr. So I sat and waited, clearly in pain from the new blisters i had on my feet from walking barefoot ( could no have walked in my cycling clips) i also spent my time waiting looking for accessories but already had purchased most of the tShirts they sold in this store ) clearly not a first time customer).
When the mechanics replaced the tube And also replaced the tire they were about to send me off to ride home and then i would come back and pay, but then the owner and the daughter told the mechanics (not me) that I could not take the bike unless I paid first. This meant I had to walk another 2 miles over a busy bridge , barefoot still, to get home to get money to come back to pay. NOTE: they knew that I walked in bare feet the past 5 miles to get to their shop because my bike, they watched me pick gravel and shells out of my feet and yet had no problem asking me to walk another 3 miles home so i could get my credit card. why did i have to sit and wait while they finished? The daughter even mocked me saying maybe i could "catch a ride".
I do understand that its sensible business to have the customer pay the $35 for services rendered but in this case i think they should have considered my situation and recognized a repeat local customer not to mention considering my significant pain.
In general besides the opinion of the business decision i think the lack of eye contact and condescending tone in the midst of a difficult morning was, in my opinion, disrespectful and poor service and not worthy of my repeat business. Sad to lose a local bike shop , but i will travel down to the bike shop in ormond beach to support a small business worthy of my business in the future.
