The pool pump would not prime because it had both a vacuum and pressure side leak. The service man not only showed up promptly, be he called me about 7 minutes before he arrived. Nice heads up. He introduced himself (a big deal with me). I had manually primed the pump before he got there so it was running, but it was blowing lots of bubbles. He flicked the pool pump off-and-on a couple of times and immediately detected leaks on the vacuum side as being from the valve gaskets. I already knew the base service charge was $95 as told up front when I made the appointment (again, the right thing to do). That price beats the $115 from the nationally based outfit which I cancelled mainly because they could not get there soon enough, not because I knew I could get a better price. The better price was a discovery after the fact.
l left the service man to do his job. About 30 to 40 minutes later everything was working perfect. No air in the pump catch area. To me, the $135 was well worth it simply because I trusted his talent and he did what was right without having to second guess. His knowledge in finding the vacuum side leak immediately was worth the money. I thought the total bill was very reasonable. He even took a few minutes to show me the proper way to remove the filter cartridge lid so I would not have to yank hard. Then he showed me how the filter cartridge comes out without having to pull the entire assembly. So a few minutes of valuable training was provided and future problems will be minimized.
This is how you like it to go.
