Excellent! I've know Tom ever since we purchased our home 4 years ago. He was recommended to do our septic inspection during our home purchase and has helped us with pumping services while we were saving up for the drain field install. I called several vendors for quotes before making my decision. Tom's quote was not the cheapest, but I like his personality and I was sure based on previous experience with him that he would perform the work as described. We discussed the location of the new drain field and he was very patient with my many questions on his initial visit. After my other quotes came in I called him to let him know he was selected for the job. Tom request we pay a small deposit to cover the permit fees, and he would let me know when the permit was approved. He had previously taken measurements for this purpose. The county of course was the hold up as they took a full seven days to get the permit back to Tom, but once it came in he started the next day bright and early at 7AM. He ran into a snag digging for the dosing tank which required him to rent a mini excavator which he had not planned or budgeted for in our quote. There was little room for the bobcat and we wanted to keep an existing orange tree which hindered his efforts to dig the hole. The large amount of rain we had didn't help either, as the hole was collapsing back on itself. Tom had to leave the work site to pickup the excavator and upon his return I offered to pay for the cost, but he declined to let me do so. A short time after he returned, the dosing tank was placed, and he began working on the new drain field site. Tom was working alone and it was impressive to seem him make quick work of the tasks at hand. As a side note, everyone who quoted me made it very clear my yard would be destroyed by the time this was over, and they were not kidding. So if you expect this to be a neat and tidy operation, you are mistaken. Tom was able to get everything done except for placing all of the infiltrator system that we had selected for our drain field. He was working up until sundown! The next morning he arrived early again, and was back at work. He quickly completed everything without doing cover up as that must happen after inspection. He had already called in for inspection and around 10AM the health inspectors showed up. The county inspectors are their usually cheery self, and were immediately hysterical about things they claimed were done incorrectly. They mistook me for Tom, and the male (the other was female) started yelling loudly about the issues to me. I informed him that I am the home owner and that Tom had just left, and he calmed down and said maybe he should call him. I told him I thought that was a good idea. After the one inspector got Tom on the phone his demeanor changed, and after some more poking and prodding of his work along with some measurements that I have no idea why they were concerned with they came to me with good news, we passed! I texted Tom when they left to inform him they were done and we passed inspection. He had went off to work some other jobs in the area and eventually got tied up for the day. He let me know he would return in the morning, and this was fine as even though the system was not yet covered it is still usable. The next morning early Tom returned to cover the tank and field. He also spread grass seed and hay over the field so that it could pass the county's final inspection that day. He completed his work quickly, and even moved and graded some dirt that had been an eyesore in my yard since moving in here. Tom is polite, courteous, and knowledgeable in his trade. He was also very patient with my questions while he was working. I probably did drive him crazy. LOL If any of you are looking for a drain field replacement, Tom is your man! Everyone will tell you that they don't do the electrical (if you require a dosing tank / lift station) which is true. None of these guys are licensed electricians, you'll have to coordinate that if you have one, or Tom can probably recommend one. I was able to get the proper circuit installed for the pump and alarm prior to the install and after discussing where it needed to be. Some other companies will also tell you that SOD is required to cover the field after install, this is simply not the case. Grass seed can be used and Tom included this in his price. All other companies expected that I would pay for the SOD separately and it was not include in their quote. Just be aware of this. The county passed us the next day, and it's been over a week now and the grass is already growing and our yard is back to normal! I would highly recommend Safari Septic to anyone. They are great folks and I am very pleased with the work and level of service that was provided. We are so happy to have our new septic system back in business!!! Thanks Safari Septic!!! :)
