I paid the $80 fee for a technician to come to the house and reprogram our primary thermostat. He arrived on time, identified the setting that needed to be changed immediately. So far so good. Then he advised me that part of the $80 fee was a routine system check that covered about 20 or so specific system related items, I told him it was fine if he wanted to check both of our systems. About 30 minutes later, he handed me an estimate for $1,300 to replace one of the units motors that he said was blown and replace a uv light that was out on the same system. I asked him to confirm the unit (the motor specifically) was still covered under warranty, which he did and it was. So I made sure I understood what the $1,300 quote was for, and the tech confirmed it was for labor to replace the motor and the up bulb. But I d Get a discount and have to pay $900 if I signed up for the $35 monthly service plan. I wanted a second opinion, so I paid another $80 fee to have a company my neighbor recommended come out. Long story short, the motor was not blown & the I ve bulb was working fine. The condensation try was full and was causing the kill switch to turn the unit off and then water would evaporate the level would decrease slightly and the unit would kick back on. This was the cycle, on/off, on/off, repeat. They emptied the water out of the tray and we haven't had a single issue since. They even changed the filters on both units. Total cost, $80. What really was infuriating, was on the inspection list that was supposed to have been done, check condensation tray and kill switch were both listed as separate items on their checklist. So I paid a $90 charge to almost get swindled out of $1,300 to fix a problem that didn't exist, then not complete the system check, then pay a competitor another $80 to prevent me from loosing the $1,300 and fix the problem that should have been identified during the system check. Yeah, pretty said experience frankly. The HoA president lives next door and we chatted about it and came up with a way to notify the community when situations like this happen to prevent other homeowners from a similar experience.
