My car wouldn't go into gear. I called AAA who came out to tow my car. A friend had suggested I take my car to another business who they had used before and knew them to be honest and trust worthy. This was the plan. The tow truck showed up and the man was very nice and helpful. He works for Fournier's. He was ready to take my vehicle where I wanted, but suggested his shop could do the job and were fair. He was so nice and helpful I decided to go to this shop instead. I figured if this was the type of person they hired, they must be the same.
It was near end of business, so they said they would call me in the morning with a quote. I was contacted mid morning and told not just the cable needed to be replaced but the gear shift box as well. I was told this would be 340.01. I need the car and it was coming in a holiday weekend, so I felt I had to do it.
I paid over the phone because my mom was in from out of town and would be picking up the car. They were very helpful in sending the owners son to my home to pick up my mom. I was working late and didn't see the invoice until morning.
When I saw the invoice, I was a bit confused. It said the only part replaced was the cable (which I was told by the shop if this was all that needed to be replaced the job would have been much less expensive) with $250 in labor costs.
On Tuesday the shop was open after the holiday. I went in with my notes and time line from phone calls made back and forth.
I spoke with Rhonda who was the person who called me with the quote. I explained my confusion and I felt a dance started which was intended to keep me confused, but feel the question had been answered.
There was never a straight answer to anything except they charged me for the longest amount of time it would have taken to fix what she told me needed to be fixed, even though it likely took less time. 30 minutes to fox or 2.5 hours- same labor cost. I responded by saying- only the cable has been replaced per your invoice. The dance began again.
I finally decided there was no point. I was never offered an opportunity to speak with the manager.
I did mention that my rearview mirror had come home drooping and had fallen off when I went to adjust it. I wasn't blaming them for it- although there was no issue before hand- I guess these things happen. I was told how to fix it and some of the instructions made little sense to a non car person so I decided the Auto Zone people would probably offer more customer service when it came to instruction or even asking if they could help.
I still feel they only replaced a $88 cable- because that is what the invoice says - and then charged 250 for labor because that is what the invoice says- when the job took much less time and they didn't replace everything they said they were going to over the phone for the same price.
I was clear when I left I would know better than to ever go back there and that had I known this is how they did business, I would have gone straight to (or had car towed to) the place I was referred to. It still would have been less even with towing fee. (no yelling or screaming- obvious frustration though).
great service on the front end and back end and the car works, but customer service was not what I would expect from someplace who is looking for referrals or repeat business.
