I have lived in Florida for over 20 years and this was my 3rd pool I have built in the last 20 years. My neighbors had excellent service from Artesian and I had long decided that would be the company I would use if I ever built another pool. We got quotes from 3 companies and Artesian was NOT the cheapest, but because of our first hand experience watching previous neighbors build pools, we decided to use them for their excellent workmanship. We signed our contract on 4 March 2014. After signing the contract and leaving our deposit, the salesman called us several days later and claimed he had forgotten to include the price of a retaining wall as we have a small incline in our backyard. WE hesitated to continue at this time because "who changes a contract after it is written and a deposit left?". But again, we knew they built a good pool. We paid an additional $3400 for this mistake and we weren't too happy about this.
They told us the typical build time for the pool was 6-9 weeks. NO problem! BUT....they didn't start our pool until mid May 2014.-almost 9 weeks after we signed the contract. We had great weather so this was NOT the excuse! I even called the City of Clermont to make sure prior to this that permits had been pulled as I was getting worried perhaps they never had applied for the permits.
After starting the pool, we decided to extend our deck 5 feet wider. The cost of this was paid immediately and all communication was done in writing with the salesman via email. But NO one told us this would cause our air conditioner unit to be 9 inches sunk in a hole lower than the deck (the air conditioner was going to be incased within the screen / deck area as our association requires it to be in the back of the house). As things progressed-we saw a major disconnect between the salesman-Tony and the construction crew. He was not notifying the construction crew of the incline in our back yard, the extension of the deck and this caused disharmony. Artesian REFUSED to make it right! The way the deck was set in-any adult or kid could fall into the air conditioner hole and break a leg or ankle-We ended up paying an additional $600 to have an AC company come and lift the air conditioner onto deck level because Artesian refused to make it right. This was crazy to us. We are the consumer-not the engineers that foresee problems and this should have been pointed out to us when the changes were made-but they were not-they took our money and refused to make it right! When the screen enclosure guy came out-he was NOT informed that the deck had been extended and was on the phone with Artesian trying to figure out why his measurements didn't match the blueprints.
The pool was NOT completed until September! It took 6 months to build this pool and this was disappointing! A pile of sand sat in our side yard for 4 months and the subdivision association was on us about the time it took for them to complete our pool and clean up our yard. During this time our lawn sprinklers had to remain off and could not be re routed until the pool was done-so our grass was burning up. Our summer vacation was cancelled because we were afraid to leave the pool builders with fear of more issues-so we stayed home to keep an eye on things.
On a good note here are the good things I have to say:
1. They build an excellent pool
2. Their sub contractors have worked for them long term and all were polite / worked thru adverse conditions (heat and rain)
3. Julio was the brains behind the work and we appreciated him
4. Charlie did one of the best "pool schools" lessons I have ever had!
Although we have NEVER been able to get a pool company to put a completion date in the contract-if you use this company, I would insist that they give you a completion date. Basically they have most of your money (in our case all of it except for $704) while you wait for the pool to be completed.
I would use them again-but I wouldn't use the same sale person and I would try harder to get a completion date put in the contract.
