"This is stephanie at A-lumination Electric. I am glad we could help and provide you with excellent services! keep a reminder you have a 10% discount( in appreciate of business and review) with us the next time you have an electrical need. Thank you,"
I called A-Luminations BECAUSE they have an A rating on Angie?s List. I know fair grades are important; therefore, this F grade needs to be explained to inform potential customers.
My home, built in the 80?s, has aluminum wiring and a routine electrical fix prompted an electrician to recommend alumicom replacement connections and new breaker panels. Within 2 hours of my call, Amelia went to my home and gave a count and estimate that Diane discounted 10% to a total of $4,700 for the panels and 105 devices.
During the installation I was called to ?sell? me new outlets/switches for $300 more which I declined because it?s difficult enough to afford the $4,700. Immediately after completion I received an invoice for $5,200.
My handyman who was at the home doing other repairs observed that not all devices had been completed. I called and Amelia said ?her time is valuable? and I needed to identify the potential problems for them to revisit the home. The only way to ?identify? the problems was to remove the fixtures and covers to see inside. My handyman spent hours and uncovered 34 connections- including exterior and garage connections, plus dishwasher, disposal, ceiling fixtures and others that had not been completed! Recall that all 105 connections had just been invoiced, also without the agreed discount.
New tenants were to move in the day they said they would send two electricians by noon to complete the work; only one arrived and not until 1:30. He informed us that they do not commonly do fixtures that need to be removed and reinstalled, so the handyman had to also reinstall them after the alumicom was in place. No mention had ever been made about us doing the fixture removal and reinstall. In fact, I?ve been told that an electrician is supposed to do that kind of work, not a handyman. So if someone hires this company to do this job you?ll also need to hire a handyman or contractor to remove and reinstall the fixtures in the home. How else can the job be considered done if only some of the connections have been corrected with alumicom?
When completed, I had them walk around and total the devices again as I no longer trusted the 105 number. The actual number was 95 plus one that was not being charged because of a broken fixture, so a total of 94 should have been charged instead of 105!
The next morning I received an email requesting payment card information. No revised invoice was offered even though I should have been charged for 11 fewer connections, plus I had to pay my handyman to do part of the job they should have completed! This certainly justified a complaint call and their response was an offer to reduce the bill to $4,680 and call it done (a mere $20 reduction even though the count is 94 instead of 105!) Really! No reduction for the 11 connection overage, nor the handyman?s many hours to open the 34 devices and reinstall fixtures, nor my "valuable" time to drive 50 miles each way to supervise the process, nor the lost day of rent!!
Finally I proposed a reasonable adjustment just to get the matter finished; they accepted the discount which could have been much higher and they have been paid.
This has been the most unprofessional and frustrating experience I?ve had with any vendor. Frankly I worry about the quality of their work given the deficiencies in every other regard. I highly suggest great care if you choose to work with them? at least do your own count and monitor the project closely to be sure it all gets done as agreed.
