Jay's Fabric & Upholstery

It was the worst and most unprofessional experience my friend and I have ever had! The owner Jay was out of control in front of his customers and employees! The salesman gave the lady in front of us a discount for buying all 5 yards, so when it was my turn I had a 3 yard remnant, only needed 1 yard, then decided I wanted another yard, thought I would take the 3 yards if he discounted, it had not been discounted yet even though it was a small remnant! The employee went in back to ask big Jay, and he stormed out of his office, screaming at me very loud, telling me I’m cheap, told the employee not to sell any to me, and screamed, GET THE F**K out of my store! I was shaking and upset, after being yelled at like that! Jays employee said, I guess he’s having a bad day, really? I went down the street to Boca Bargoons, and found same exact fabric, better price, and an extremely pleasant experience, every employee could not have been nicer! Bigger store and very organized and clean, not dumpy like Jays.

While they have a nice selection of fabrics, they are very disorganized, they are unable to respond in a timely fashion, and sent an invoice well after the fact saying we owed them more money which did not correspond to what we had originally paid. The fabric we ordered turned out to be no longer available so it took another 4-6 weeks to get the new fabric. When the panels were brought to the house, they were so wrinkled we had to send back to be pressed. Jay then had the audacity to charge us for steam pressing and an extra charge for them to be hung. Finally, he sent another invoice for an additional $1,200 which had already been paid. Turned out, they owed US money. Guess he expected us not to understand. Be very cautious - there are better places to do business in Naples.

It went perfectly. The chairs are now very substantial. They look great and we anticipate them lasting a very long time. We highly recommend Jay for anyone needing upholstery in the Naples area.

The bench was completed in about 2 weeks. I was very pleased with the way it turned out. The workmanship was very good. I have had other things upholstered at Jays. Everything has turned out good. Also, he has always had the work completed in a 2 - 3 weeks. They have a fabulous selection of fabrics at great prices. I have always found what I wanted in stock.

Having visited a well advertised fabric upholstery store and getting no real assistance from sales person, and what help I was
given was that cushion can be replaced for cost of $200.  No explaination of foam to be used, why I had the problem. 
Went to Jays Fabric, as soon as we walked in door, sales person was friendly and when I explained problem with cushions
she and another sales person said, yes we can see that cushion is a very hard dense cushion.  I was given a cost and I left
the cushion and they would replace with softer filling and call and see how I liked it.  Got a call 3 days later, picked up cushion and it was very comfortable, took the other 5 back and they were done within 5 days.  Cost was $500 for total of 6 cushions as
compared to quote of larger store of $200 per cushion and cost would have been with 6 cushions $1,200.  And other store
made no suggestion for them to do one cushion and see how I liked it.
Also, a friend with me had material she wanted to match up for valences.  First store, no one offered to help her and she
wondered around the store for well over 30 min., while I was waiting for cost on cushions.
Again, when we went into Jays, Terry took my friend and found many wonderful fabrics that would work for her valances.
We found Jays Fabric to be a very user friendly store that went out of their way to assist us.

Nice fabrics in the store and
I liked the layout at the front of the store.
When I started to talk with the lady at the front desk, things got
weird. It is like she didn’t understand
anything I was talking about. At first I
thought about just having the seat cover washed and new foam for my 2
chairs. Then realized it was better for
new foam and new material, as they had something to match it. – Fine, which was
my worry in closely matching to original.
Then the owner came out, and
I was questioning if I could see the foam because I wanted to determine
thickness, he told me that was in the back.
(Never got it) Then I asked that if they did the work if they could put
on the old tags from the chair on again, owner said why? The chair will be
different now, maybe true, but I still want to know the manufacturer of the
product if I wanted to know or any information that would be available to me if
I needed to know? It shouldn’t be a big
deal it’s all a matter of just restapling it.
He went and got my other chair since it was raining and as he did he
almost, just a hair away, almost hit my brand new car with it. – Now I am
really nervous about this place and irritated.
Then the lady started to tear
the labels off I said don’t you have a staple remover, they looked at me like
they never heard of such an invention, and then said that is back in the work
area, (which is in back of the store).
They told me the job would be done and ready for pickup the next day. (Pretty good turnaround)
I started to feel really
insecure about this place and I ran out of there with my 2 chairs. I mean, I hastily left that place and they
were looking all confused.
My first experience was scary
at best.
Went down to North Naples Upholstery,
better experience, a little higher in labor, but they did price match the labor
of Jay’s Fabrics. Naples Upholstery, on the other hand, my job would be done in
1 week and would try to push it up in between waiting for parts on current
orders. I guess that tells me one good
thing, if they are busier they are better.
Jay’s fabrics has no customers, might not be good company.

They do excellent work. Their pricing was great, and the quality was very good. They have an excellent selection of fabrics.
