Because my niece works out of town, I took her Ford F150 Lariat to Charlie's Auto Glass in August 2012. The left side (passenger) of the rear cab glass window had a leak. The repair cost $90 because the glass didn't have to be taken out. I assummed the rubber was replaced to stop the leak.
Several weeks later, the same leak returned!
My niece came into town and we took the truck back to Charlie's Auto Glass. They said it'll be fixed in an hour or two. They never called. It was my niece who called to find out status: they said soon.
Then Charlie's said the glass needs to be replaced because it was cracked and was the cause of the leak. Why this was not noted on my first visit in August 2012 is unknown. My niece wanted to see but they took longer than 15 minutes to show her the allegedly cracked glass. FUNNY, THE LEAK WAS ON THE LEFT SIDE BUT THE CRACK WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GLASS. They told my niece they can order & install a new glass within a few hours. My niece said to proceed.
Hours later, we were dumbstruck when we saw the truck!
First of all, the LARIAT is a particular sports trim of the F150. The rear window glass has a small window partitioned in the middle of the glass which slides open. Charlie's had replaced this specific auto window with a standard rear cab glass: no partitioned little window in the middle!
They did not say a similar or different type of glass. Neither did my niece, in fact, she expressed to have the same type of glass replaced.
Also, the technician had spilled black, adhesive smear marks all over the WHITE truck lid, on the sides, on the cab roof. No clean up or attempt to clean up because it was a black gooey-glue adhesive substance.
Obviously we complained and Charlie's agreed to replace the glass with the same type the truck originally had next time she comes back to town.
My niece had a buyer for the truck but the buyer didn't want it after the incorrect glass was installed (it takes away from the sporty "look" associated with the Lariat trimline).
The truck is in Atlanta, where my niece works out of but doesn't see nor use the truck regularly. But after several weeks dealing with Charlie's over the phone and emails, they're now claiming the black gooey-glue adhesive marks were not their doing: they even denied the pictures.
STATUS AS OF NOVEMBER 16th, 2012: THE LEFT SIDE OF THE REAR CAB AUTO GLASS WINDOW IS LEAKING AGAIN!
TWO REPAIR VISITS = TWO LEAKS, OVER $400 AND THE WINDOW STILL IS NOT FIXED!
Charlie's Auto Glass is unresponsive and evasive. My niece is disputing the charges but in the meantime, the glass still leaks and we fear Charlie's may reneg on installing the correct glass.
As a side note to this nightmare, on both visits, Charlie's technicians were trying to garner work on the side and/or tips but we thought dealing directly with Charlie's would be more trustworthy.
Charlie's Auto Glass DID NOT FIX THE LEAK (who knows, maybe they never replaced the rubber seal on either visit); they replaced the glass with the WRONG TYPE GLASS (who knows, maybe the tech cracked glass but hit the wrong, opposite side of where leak was) and they SMUDGED & MARKED the white paint job with black, gooey-glue adhesive material.
Their customer service and/or front office staff is nothing to write home about but Charlie's could show a willingness to correct their wrongs by: (1) FIXING LEAK ONCE & FOR ALL, (2) INSTALLING ORIGINAL-EQUIPPED AUTO GLASS and (3) REMOVING ADHESIVE MARKS or A NEW PAINT JOB if the removal ruins the paint, at NO ADDITIONAL COST to my niece.
It seems since the old owner left, Charlie's professionalism, workmanship, customer service and ethics went with him too!
