I hired Carlos from Brixton Construction through Angi in late May 2025 for drywall repair, Level 5 finish, painting, and baseboard/door installation. He quoted a fixed-price contract of $5,000, which included all labor and materials. Based on his assurances of having 15 20 years of experience, I trusted him and paid over 80% of the contract ($4,066.42) early into the project. At first, Carlos showed up regularly and seemed professional. However, things quickly went downhill after I made the second payment. His attendance became erratic. He began rushing the job, leaving large defects and unfinished surfaces. He frequently arrived late and left early, and when I pointed out issues like cracks in the drywall, uneven texture, blotchy paint, and exposed areas, he kept insisting it would all be fixed in the final coat. That never happened. He then started asking me to pay for materials like paint, baseboard, and door even though these were originally part of his all-inclusive bid. To avoid conflict, I agreed to cover some of those costs. I also let him use my personal belongings during the job, including a table and tools, some of which were damaged in the process. Despite all the flexibility and trust I extended, Carlos abandoned the job, told me he wouldn t finish the remaining work, and falsely claimed that certain items (like texture and baseboards) weren t in the contract. He even blamed other contractors for defects that arose from his own poor workmanship. What s Left Unfinished: Painting in multiple rooms (some not even started) Baseboard and door installation Surface repairs and sanding Paint drips on my marble floor Cleanup and walkthrough I now have to hire another contractor to fix and complete the job paying again for work I already paid him for. This has caused enormous stress, financial loss, and unnecessary damage to my property. I gave this contract to Carlos in good faith. In return, I got dishonesty, half-finished work, and excuses. I would never recommend Carlos or Brixton Construction.
