I have been taking my pets to Dr. McKinney for over 15 years and do not have any complaints.  He is caring, professional, and does what is best for the pets.  He is always willing to listen to my concerns, answer my questions, and explain my options.  I consider myself and my pets lucky to have him.

On 7-12-13 when I went to the office and spoke with Dr. McKinney's front
desk assistant I recognized that a dispute might arise and so I
turned on my voice recorder on my cellphone so most of the incident
was recorded. I have posted it on to YouTube and other websites for
other people to judge for themselves to see how they treat their
customers. I have also written my account of their treatment on many
social media websites such as AngiesList.com and on other animal
lovers websites. This is certain to cost them money in lost business
when other people see and hear for themselves how I was treated. I am
also in the process of filing a lawsuit at the local courthouse.
My Rebuttal Response to Dr. McKinney's Statements on 8-1-2013 to my credit card processor regarding the chargeback reversal of charges to my credit card. Further below you will find a transcript of their rebuttal statement on 8-1-2013 to the credit card company.
It appears your claims department may not have carefully documented my
claim as I have reported to your claims processor. I never made any
claim of any charges on “7-12-13” as it is stated in the prior
written rebuttal of 8-1-2013 by Dr. McKinney. If this is not an error
of interpretation on the part of your claims department then it is
certainly an obvious inconsistent statement on the part of Dr.
McKinney. My cat Akito was healthy, but had not had a dental cleaning
so I had a pre-operative dental exam on 4-5-2013. That exam was only
for the purpose of a dental cleaning procedure. This is why there was
blood lab tests done to check for renal function. Having such lab
work for a pre-operative dental exam is considered by vets to be
standard procedure protocol. If the cat was not healthy for the
procedure then there is a valid medical reason for not doing the
procedure. In this case Akito was healthy and this is evident in the
documentation you have of 8-1-2013 by Dr. McKinney.
As stated by Dr. McKinney on the prior written rebuttal of 8-1-2013,
during the pre-operative dental exam it was necessary to give the cat
a subcutaneous injection of a tranquilizer. This is because though
the cat is friendly and docile it would not cooperate to have the
visual dental exam and the drawing of the blood specimen for the
blood test. On that day of the exam on 4-5-2013, my mother Cecilia
Escobar was also present, and at that time I asked Dr. McKinney if he
could facilitate for us the process of taking the cat to his office
on the future day of dental procedure by having us give him at least
a similarly effective subcutaneous injection of a tranquilizer at the
house just before transporting him to his office. Dr. McKinney
response was “Yes.” This is inconsistent with the medical
documentation where the doctor states he recommended an oral
medication.
On 7-12-2013 when I went to the office to schedule the dental procedure,
I asked for the subcutaneous tranquilizer injection but was then told
by his front desk assistant that they could only give an oral tablet
medication, and the rational given was because it was against the
law. His front desk assistant became very upset when I told her in a
normal tone of voice that I know its not against the law, because (1)
other vets have written such prescriptions and that the doctors
signature on the prescription and medical documentation legalizes its
use and possession, and (2) that I know this because I am a licensed
nurse in the state of Florida and I am familiar with such laws. I
further tried to remind her of the doctors original opinion to use
the subcutaneous tranquilizer injection and the fact that just as in
humans for a surgical procedure involving an anesthetic the animal
should not eat anything for 12 hrs prior because it can cause
vomiting and aspiration during the procedure. I also made it clear to
her that I am willing to pay more for the tranquilizer. Her reaction
truly defies belief, but her exact reaction was that of being
offended for simply questioning the rational for the medication and
she stated to me that it was not worth their time to do dental
procedures and that if I wanted such special services that I should
go to other vets that charge more money and she then refused to
provide the dental procedure appointment and stated she did not want
to do business with me. I then asked her to have the doctor tell me
himself that he does not want my business, she then went around an
open doorway into an adjoining room where I clearly heard her speak
to the doctor and I heard Dr. McKinney state to her that he did want
my business and to relay that to me. It is obvious the doctor was
just a few feet away the entire time and thus he was also able to
overhear my entire conversation with his assistant, so he was fully
aware of the situation.
I ask that you consider your common sense. The dental services for
which I have paid for are incomplete and cannot be continued with
another vet without again first having a pre-operative exam
appointment as no vet is going to just perform a dental procedure on
an animal that they have not examined and done their own blood lab
work, because of the amount of time that has passed from the prior
lab work done by Dr. McKinney. So by only doing half the work and
refusing to complete the procedure, the work already done is rendered
useless and I will need to re-incur the cost of a pre-operative exam
with another vet. It is similar to having a hairstylist only dye and
perm the hair on half your head and then refusing to complete the
job. To then get that completed and done well with a good color
match, another stylist would have to redo the entire procedure. In
such a case any rational person would want to be refunded for the
money you paid thus far to have their hair done.
I also ask you to look carefully at their written response on
“8-1-2013” and look at the exclamation mark “!” in their very
first sentence and their last sentence. Their response to you also
lacks the same cordial manners that they treated me with for simply
questioning the rational for the medication. This should indicate to
you the veracity and credibility of my account that it is very
inaccurate when they say that I was suddenly verbally abusive
especially as I have had a long history of being their customer for
many years. I think this is one of the best supporting evidence I
have that I did nothing wrong and reacted in a very civilized and
reasonable manner.
Signed
Rolando Escobar
Below is the 8-1-2013 rebuttal response transcript by Dr. Stewart McKinney to the credit card company.
The allegation for this chargeback are totally false!
The services were performed on4-5-2013, not 7-12-13 as stated by the
cardholder. I am supplying documentation (The invoice given to the
client, a copy of the chart showing that the cat received an
examination and injection, and laboratory test) done at National
Bio-Vet Laboratory) The client (cardholder) came into our office on
7-12-13 to set up an appointment for a dental cleaning for “Akito”.
The client became angry when we refused to give him an injectable
tranquilizer for “Akito”. I told him we were only allowed to
dispense an oral tranquilizer. At that point Mr. Escobar became
abusive towards my receptionist, and was asked to leave the clinic.

He is a really good vet; he does not have a fancy office and does not charge fancy prices but he really cares about the dogs and cats that I have had. I think he is one of the sponsors of the spay and neuter clinic that is in North Miami. I have gone to them for over 10 years. The office is clean and he has a nice girl that helps him in the office; I am satisfied with his care. Their appointments are punctual and even if I walk in I don't have to wait that long.

They are wonderful, warm, have a friendly atmosphere, and they care for the animals. I have been taking all of my dogs there for over 20 years. Price wise they are great. Sometimes I haven't had any money and they will let me post date a check. They see you right away.

Avenue Animal Clinic is by appointment only and I have found that they are sometimes half the expense of other Miami vets. They are very thorough and give excellent care to pets. The vet even talks to the animals and I might add, more than he talks to the owners.
