The overall experience with Douglas Orr was outstanding. It started with the girl that took my initial phone call. she explained their pricing and estimate fees. She was very friendly and helpful. On the first day Matt showed up as agreed upon and was able to stop a water leak i had from one of my underground water lines.Matt was very knowledgeable, professional and explained to me every step of what he was doing. Before leaving he gave me an estimate and explained what was needed for the repairs . On the second day Mat returned with an assistant Chuck. they ran a new line through my attic to restore my full service to my house. They worked very hard, had no down time, and finished as predicted. the cost even came in under the estimate given the day before. During this process they were very courteous and took extra care to keep the mess down and cleaned up after themselves. i cant say enough of what a positive experience it was.

In advance, I purchased a toilet kit but it was not what the plumber felt was the one which would work best so he used a kit he carried on the truck. He installed it. Everything seemed to work fine & he left. Within a couple of days, I noticed the noise of the tank water turning on when nobody had been in there. Obviously the new flap was not working correctly and allowing water to release from the tank. At a certain point the water turned on to refill the tank. This problem grew in frequency and we would hear the toilet go on numerous times day and night. Having a very busy schedule, and little time to stay home waiting for a plumber to return, I simply turned off the water to that toilet. I have procrastinated to the point now that I believe the work is no longer guaranteed so some of the problem rests with me. Nonetheless, I think that the plumber could probably have tested (even with a dye tablet in the tank) to make sure there was no leakage. I now need to get this taken care of prior to the holiday entertaining.

I called Douglas Orr Plumbing at 10:35 a.m. and within 30 minutes Tommy D arrived at our condo. Tommy determined the problem fairly quickly but there were problems with the foundation for the toilet. Tommy D gave me advice on what to do to fix the foundation and I asked him about the efficiency toilets that could be purchased. He worked close to 2 hours on the problem and was very professional in completing the project. We will be fixing the foundation in the near future and have Douglas Orr plumbing replace our old toilet with a high efficiency toilet.
Description of Work: The toilet in the guest bathroom had a leak. The leak seeped down to the unit below our unit. Tommy D came to our condo to determine the cause of the leak. The toilet was removed from the base and it was determined that the seal was worn out. Tommy D changed the wax seal and replaced the flushing lever.

My home had a back flow issue that started from my garbage disposal and dishwasher and ended up flooding part of my garage. I contacted Douglas Orr Plumbing in the am and had someone at my house by mid afternoon on a Friday. The representative was JR and he did an excellent job snaking the line and fixing the problem. I couldn't have been happier with the service. I've since recommended them to two other friends with similar problems.

David, the plumber they sent, was pleasant, professional and efficient. Even though labor was charged hourly, he moved quickly, identifying the source of the leak (a toilet) and making the necessary repair in about a half hour. So even with the travel time, I was only charged for an hour of labor, with the Angie's List 10% discount. I can honestly say this is the first pleasant experience I've had with a plumbing repair, I will definitely use them again.

I can't say enough about Matt, the service technician that responded to the job. Not only was he extremely professional and personable, but suggested a less ccomplicated and certainly less costly approach to fixing the problem. After succeeding in clearing a clogged drain line, we asked him to address a secondary issue involving a shower stem valve that had been repaired by a different plumbing company. Matt ended up having to contact Kohler's tech support to trouble shoot the problem, which was not quite as simple as just the valve mechanism being reversed, but having to replace the stem valve altogether, which considering was not a standard store-brand purchase item, Matt happened to have in the truck. Matt ended up spending aboout 2.5 hours at the house, for a price that most other companies would charge just to show up.... and that is not the end of the story... a few days later, we noticed a steady leak coming from the main water shut-off valve to the house. We called Doug Orr back, and once again, we were lucky enough to have Matt scheduled to make the service call. He immediately assessed the problem, which turned out to be nothing more than tightening the valve, stopping the leak. He then called called the company and convinced them not to charge us for the service call. All in all, a truly great company to do business with and certainly refreshing considering the usual experience in dealing with contractors in South Forida. Great service, great price, honest and on time.
Description of Work: Had a back-up in drain line servicing the washing machine and dishwasher that required snaking out. Also had a secondary issue involving a Kohler stem valve that had been installed incorrectly by a different plumbing company, causing water temperatures to be reversed.

I recently fractured my hip and needed to change the wall-mounted shower head to a hand-held shower head. I also needed to have grab bars installed in my shower and over my toilet. The work was accomplished quickly and the price was far less than I expected to pay. However, the price was for labor only and I supplied the parts. Although I knew they granted a 10% discount to members of Angie's List, I had completely forgotten about it. However, the 10% was subtracted when the bill was presented. The plumber was on time and worked quickly to complete the job. I will definitely use them again.

This is a story of great service and harassment over payment. I've used Douglas Orr Plumbing 5 times by now. I've always called them back for the responsiveness and the great service they provide. Yesterday was no exception. I reported a leak under the kitchen zinc and 2 hours later the technician had fixed it. My problems started right after the service was completed. Douglas Orr has a policy of collecting payment on the spot. I didn't know that. In fact, their Service Work Order states clearly (I have a picture that can demonstrate this) that the terms of payment are 30 Days. Yesterday, however, I was busy on a conference call in my home office at the time that the technician had finished his work and had generated the Service Work Order. I assumed I could pay for the service later in the day when my agenda freed up. Instead, the technician, now turned collector, stayed at my house and began to behave aggressively as time went by and I wasn't coming out of my conference call to pay him. He verbally abused my housekeeper who was at that time taking care of my 3 daughters raging from 1.5 to 9 years old. He raised his voice to her multiple times claiming that he needed to collect payment. He even threatened her by claiming that he would call the police (?). - You have to picture this. My housekeeper is 60 years old, no taller than 5?, and is the sweetest person on earth. I would never trust her with the care of my daughters if she weren?t a very well educated person, truthful, and polite. - While I was in my conference call and the payment collection scene was unfolding between the technician and my housekeeper, I started getting calls from Douglas Orr's office that I constantly avoided as I needed to stay focused on the business matter that concerned me. Finally, after 5 calls from Douglas Orr within a 10-minute span I decided to abruptly end my business call, answered Douglas Orr's call, and made the proper payment over the phone, on the spot, so that the harassment would come to an end. It is still to this time, 24 hours later, that I'm expecting a call from Kevin, Douglas Orr's owner, to apologize for his technician's behavior and to reconsider his policy of harassment instituted to collect payments on the spot regardless of any consideration for the customer. Kevin knows of my frustration as I expressed it to him twice. Yesterday, when I made the payment over the phone, and today when I called him to complain about his technician?s verbal abuse of my housekeeper. I might add, quite frankly, and this is by no means a justification for the technician's behavior, that I see Kevin responsible for this negative experience. His policy of payment on the spot forces his technicians to become collectors, which is something they are not trained for. The technician in this case I could tell was receiving clear directions from his management not to leave my house under any circumstances until the payment had been collected. They put the technician on the spot while the clock was running, and he acted in a regretful manner. By the way, the bill was $94, not $1,500, or any amount that would have broken their bank. I assume that for $94 they could have waited a bit until I had the time to call them and issue payment. I have a credit score of 800 and never, ever, defaulted on any payments whatsoever. Is this a way to treat customers, really? Putting all in the same bag, responsible payers and irresponsible ones? And to then harass them over the phone or even at your own house until the payment is made? With hindsight, I should have been the one to call the police. Never again. So sorry. A professional company with the wrong payment enforcement policy that can lead to a very uncomfortable situation for anyone, anytime.

Over the last 38 years we have established a very positive reputation as a first class service company. We are an honest company and we stand behind our work. We have won the Angie's list customer service award every year since 2007 and appreciate and respect the comments we receive on Angie's list. When we perform a service call we expect to be paid for it. As you mentioned, you have used our service 5 times, each time we provided service you paid with a check on the spot. My technician Frankie Perez has worked here for 22 years and is one of my best plumbers. He is also one of the most friendliest, honest, mild mannered, and respectful employees we have. We have never had a problem or an issue with him. I spoke to him in regards to your comments and he said he never raised his voice and definitely never threatened you housekeeper. He just thought it was strange that he was waiting in your house to be paid and was being ignored. He asked your housekeeper to check with you about payment but she did not want to disturb you because you were working. He mentioned to her that he was also working. Frankie called our office and explained the situation he was in. The office told him to stay put and they would call you on the phone. Frankie also tried to call you on his phone from inside your house. About 1 hour after the service call was complete; I called you and finally got you on the phone. You were obviously upset that we were trying to collect for the service we performed in your home. During our conversation you mentioned about 4 different times that you were going to write a negative review about us. You also mentioned that we should treat you differently because of the cost of your home and the town you live in. You got upset with me when I mentioned that we like to treat all of our customers the same! Experience has shown us that it doesn't matter where you live or how much money you have when it comes to making a payment. I appreciated when you called me the next day and mentioned that our conversation became heated and you apologized. I assumed that we were going to hang up and move on. I did not realize you were expecting a call back from me. I did look over our service work order and you are correct, it does state Net 30 days. We have a standard work order that we use for both service and new construction. The Net 30 is for our customers who have a contract or established credit with us. Regardless, thank you for pointing it out and we will make the appropriate changes that incorporate COD terms. This ordeal is unfortunate and has become very time consuming for both parties. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and I wish you the best in the future.

**UPDATE** We had Douglas Orr come back out after the drain stopped again, and they were able to locate the problem as being a washcloth that had been sucked down the drain, which they were able to retrieve using a snake. I spoke to a service manager, who quickly responded to our C rating, and he was very courteous, wanted to understand our initial dissatisfaction, and worked with us to continue to work on the issue. I would consider them the type of company I would want to rely on again.
Description of Work: We have a tub that isn't draining, and no amount of drano will fix it. The plumber came and fixed the drain, but told us that it would get stopped up again because of some issue in the pipe. He asked if we have a crawl space. We don't! So he left. One month later ... The tub is not draining. Again. As predicted. Not sure what we are supposed to do, if this company isn't able to fix it, who the heck can?!? Are we just supposed to call them every month to perform whatever magic they did to temporarily fix the problem???

Member, I spoke to your husband last week in regards to the plumbing issue you have in your house. He was present when my plumber Andres was there. Andres explained the problem and offered a solution to your husband. Per our conversation last week, we were able to temporarily clear your stoppage. However, the snake would only go to the trap under your tub and would not go any further. There is something blocking p-trap. As I mentioned to your husband, we can attempt to run the snake thru the p-trap. We may be able to penetrate past the p-trap. However, it is a good possibility that the snake will get stuck in your pipe. Therefore, we will have to gain entry under your tub from you bathroom or behind the bathroom. There are kitchen cabinets behind the tub in the adjoing room. We could possibly go thru there! I am waiting to hear back from you husband so we can determine the best plan of action. It went extremely well. I noticed a leak under my kitchen sink and contacted Douglas Orr Plumbing the next morning. The staff member that assisted me over the phone, I believe her name was Veronica was very pleasant. After obtaining the needed information from me regarding my plumbing needs, she assured me that someone would be available to assist me that day and they would contact me at least 1/2 hour prior to his arrival. They were true to their word. The plumber, Eddy, arrived in a timely manner. He was extremely professional and had a fantastic attitude. He assessed the problem and quickly repaired the leak. I would definitely recommend this company - the service was great and the repairman was very competent!

When setting up the appt. they told me I'd have 10% off due to Angie's List. They came on two days. The first they tried fixing my kitchen faucet but didn't have the right part. I also had them replace my shower head and handle that day, as part of the charged hour. After I bought a new faucet at Home Depot they came a second day to install it. The plumber was prompt, skilled, and courteous. My only discouragement was being charged almost a third again the hourly price on the second day for two small pieces of connecting lines, but I would definitely use them again.

The appointment was for 8:30 am and David, the technician, knocked on the door at exactly 8:29 am. It had been raining heavily and he was considerate enough to slip covers on his shoes so as to not muddy up my tile floor. Then he set about to do the job quickly and efficiently. He knew what he was doing and he had everything he needed in his truck. Then he cleaned up thoroughly after himself. When I inquired about another problem under the kitchen sink, he offered several options and explained clearly what I probably should anticipate to do at a later date. Throughout his visit David was very professional, polite, and respectful. Although he welcomed my presence and my questions, he never wasted time on idle chit-chat. I am not sure what the going rate is for a job such as this one, but I gladly paid for the level of service I received. It's a definite "yes" that I will call Douglas Orr Plumbing again and specifically request that David be sent to do the job.

When I originally called them, they told me that they would dispatch someone to my office to take care of the job. They did not go over pricing with me but I figured that based on their reputation it would be fair and the plumbing issue was an emergency so I wasn't exactly in the position to negotiate. They tried calling me to tell me that a plumber was close but I missed their call. I called back 2 minutes later and they told me that the plumber already went to another service call.... okay whatever. They told me that another plumber would swing by an hour later. He came by about 2 hours later. He spent 3 hours unclogging the drain and fixing the plumbing issue. While re-routing some of the plumbing, he broke into the back of the wall and did not tell me. This will have to be fixed by someone else and will cost me about $100. Only after he left did I inspect the work and see the damage done to my wall. Total bill was about $354 or so. I was blown away by the fact that they charge $94 an hour until 4 pm and then around $140 after 4. They told me that the $140 an hour is for "after-hours" fees... who in their right mind considered 4pm "after-hours"? Regardless I couldn't argue with the plumber over the fees because he is just the plumber, not a manager or an accountant. He told me that it would be 2-3 days before the credit card was charged so I had plenty of time to discuss the pricing issues with Vicki. He told me to call Vicki, a supervisor, and that she would take care of me. Bare in mind that we are a property management company and that we form very close relationships with out vendors. I was looking forward to getting a good price from these guys and using them next time we have a plumbing problem in one of our properties.... rest assured we have deleted them from our vendors database. When I called Vicki the next day in the morning she told me that the plumber had not yet submitted the paperwork but that she would call me when he did and we could discuss the price and services performed. That sounded great to me, we were actually making headway here! 2-3 days go by and I don't get a call back. I looked at my bank account and realized that I was charged the full amount of $354. When I called her and asked her why she didn't call me back, she simple told me that the services were performed and that the charges reflected the services performed. I told her that I agree with her that the services were performed and that I am not complaining about the services performed, rather the pricing of the services, which were not disclosed to me when I called in. She told me that she finds that very odd that the CSR did not tell me pricing... that may be true but if the phone call was recorded, they will see that I am indeed correct. We discussed the problems in detail and she offered by $30 refund. I told her that $30 is unacceptable. She told me that she is not authorized to give beyond $30 refund. I told her that I want to speak with her supervisor or the owner of the business and that I will not accept this kind of behavior from them. She put me on hold and then came back on the phone and offered my $75 refund. This in no way is fair compensation for what had occurred but I was incredibly busy and didn't have the energy to argue with them so I took the refund and moved on. In all honesty, I was not expecting to pay more than $200 for this service. Considering the damage done to the wall and the fact that the plumber spent an excessive amount of time at the property, I still believe I was over charged. The money they made off of me was not fairly earned in my opinion and as someone who manages over 250 properties, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

We have a lot of customers who place service calls and the rates are not explained to them due to the fact that they are repeat customers. The rates you were charged were correct. We did everything we could to service you as quickly as possible. We call most of our customers before our plumbers are dispatched. We did not receive an answer from you so another customer was called and our plumber was dispatched to that call. Our OT rates go into effect at 4:30! You were given a $75.00 credit only because you called and explained you had a hard time and were not sure of our rates. Our rates are "very" competitive and we are fair and honest with all of our customers. I encourage you to compare our rates and reputation with any other plumbing company. The work order for the completed work and the cc form were signed by you after the service was provided. I am an absentee owner and was told that my toilet leaked into the apartment below. Douglas orr plumbing promptly provided all required insurance certificates, came to my apartment promptly and worked with our building engineers to determine that there was no leak and while in my apartment the replaced a running valve. This valve was reported as running the last time by one of my house guests so I know this was a job that needed to be done. These plumbers were very reasonable in price, professional and provided a detailed report which saved me allot of money when the neighbor below tried to get me to pay for her new bathroom ceiling paint. Douglass orr responded to our maintenance staff's inquiries, stood firmly behind their evaluation and as a result I was not charged for the paint job in the apartment below.

They explained to us that we could get a partial refund on our sewage taxes. They found the leak because there was a jump in our bill. They were just very good. We have used them before. We had a problem with an outdoor faucet another time and came out to fix it. They had to dig a trench and find where it was leaking. It was a very good price.
Description of Work: Douglas Orr Plumbing found a leak underground for us and fixed it.

Our overall experience with Douglas Orr Plumbing was very satisfying. It was refreshing feeling like we got our money's worth and were treated with respect. Thank you.
Description of Work: We called Douglas Orr Plumbing for someone to come and clean a stoppage in our drain from our laundry room to the street. We were told that someone would be here the same day and would call before arriving. Alex, the plumber, did and he was here within minutes of calling. We explained what was happening, he assessed the situation, and proceeded to climb the ladder to the roof to auger it out. Within a matter of a little over an hour, our drains were running like they were new. Alex was very professional and we would welcome him back if we have another plumbing problem. The total cost was very reasonable. We had had a similar situation about ten years ago in a different house and that bill was over $200 for approximately the same thing. We would highly recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a plumbing assistance.

The overall experience was outstanding. The initial call was answered with a very friendly person. she made the appointment for my convenience. The service was prompt, efficient, and professional. The fee was fair. I would definitely call them back and I would not hesitate to refer them to my friends.
Description of Work: The plumber arrived on time and appeared very friendly and professional. He evaluated my problem with a leaking toilet. He advised me of the possible problems and their solutions. Then he asked my permission to proceed. He removed the toilet and determined the flange was set too low. He raised the flange and reset the toilet. He finished by doing a great job with placing the grout around the base. Then he recommended a couple of other things which needed to be replaced. He cleaned up very thoroughly and answered all of my questions in a very knowledgable manner. The fee was fair.

The company was a pleasure to work with. They showed up on time and got right to work. I had problems with a toilet leaking after a wax seal had been replaced. They came out two more times to fine-tune and get it just right. The price was fair and everyone I dealt with was 100% professional. Douglas Orr Plumbing will be my #1 choice for any plumbing job.
The receptionist quoted the Angie's list discount price over the telephone. The plumber showed up promptly and quickly completed the work within the first hour. They came back the next day to run a camera through the line to find the break in the pipe.
Description of Work: Snake the main sewer line and camera the same line to find pipe break.
