As a new homeowner of an older house, I was cautious about hiring a contractor, confident with the Angie's list references, and now reassured with the excellent service that was provided. Douglas Orr provided next day service, multiple discount options, and options to repair or replace equipment with a honest approach. From my point of view, you can't ask for more in a contractor. I will be hiring them again and would recommend them to everyone.

After calling various other places featured on Angies List this company quoted a price significantly better than the others. I had an 8:30am appointment and the technician Jose Medina was punctual and very professional. Explained to me the process of the certification and how the certification would be submitted directly to the city. I still need to follow up and make sure they follow through on their submission to the city but based on the experience so far I have no concerns and will certainly consider this company for all future services.

Our main waste-water line leading from the house to the main city line has roots protruding into the pipe. Every 2-6 months we have to have it snaked. We know we need to replace the line, but haven't found anyone yet that we like enough to give the work to. Though it's too soon to tell, Douglass Orr Plumbing looks like they will be the ones. Very professional and it just occurred to me that they didn't try to sell me on ANYTHING! That's a first - and we've been through many companies the last 6 years since I moved into my parents house to help them take care of things. I really appreciate that! He did a great job and we did discuss what could be going on and possible solutions, but no pressure! I'm very pleased! I've been waiting for the company that understands pressure is a turn off. I don't scare easily, so those who have tried to scare me into a service...have been dismissed. I like this company. I hope I continue to like this company. Douglass Orr Plumbing...if you read this....you're on the right track...keep up the good work!

I had a pretty catastrophic leak-turned-rupture in the kitchen line above my apartment, which caused gallons of dirty water to cascade into my bathroom through my ceiling. Douglass Orr was able to send a plumber to me within an hour of calling in the emergency and before overtime would be incurred. My plumber, Nestor, was able to quickly punch a hole through the drywall and access the piping to determine the cause. It looks like a small animal had chewed through a rubber coupling that had held the pipe together. Nestor was able to replace it with a better, stronger coupling and made sure the area was clean and neat once he left. We had some more time in the second hour and he was kind enough to check all the other lines in my house for any potential leaks. While all the work only took two hours, it was by no means a rushed job. Nestor was incredibly courteous and forthright, taking the time to explain each step along the way to a layman like myself. He did an excellent job! More work will need to be done overall, as what I requested was a temporary fix, but I will be hiring his services with Douglas Orr again!

Did a good job. No more flappers just seals in the new toilets. Found out they wear out just like the flappers. Set up the appointment for early am and the plumber on time. A bit of strange fee charges if it is first call a certain rate etc
Description of Work: Excellent job. The plumber was helpful and tried to save me some money. Two seals in the water tank of the toilets needed replacing. It was a Kohler seal and had to go to a plumbing supply house to purchase it. Good to know there is no universal replacement seals for toilets so I can purchase this myself and have the plumber install next time.

My water heater started dripping over the weekend. Monday morning I called Douglas Orr based on the Angie's list ratings. Over the phone they provided a cost to install a new heater. Within 2 hours they were at our condo. Within 4 hours we had a new water heater. They were meticulous in clean up and professional.

I contacted Douglas Orr Plumbing to perform some work on my bathroom. When I spoke to the representative I stated there were three issues, I needed the float replaced, the toilet base repaired and the tub re-calked. I was told someone would be there that same day and that they would call me thirty minutes prior to arrival. I was also told there was a 10% discount for Angie's List Customers and the cost was $89.00 per hour. The plumber arrived and immediately told me they do not re-caulk tubs, he would have to cut bolts to remove and re-set toilet and that I should get some product to repair the missing grout/caulk from the base of the toilet. He did replace the float and stopped the toilet from running. I was charged $94.00 for an hour work and he left. I still need my tub re-caulked and toilet attached to floor so it will not slide. I have used them before and they do good work at a reasonable price, I made it very clear what I wanted done when I called but it seemed like the plumber they sent out did not want to do the work. I would make sure you are very clear what you want done and make sure they send someone to do the what you need.

We had a water leak that we couldn't find and thought was under our slab. We used Angie's List to find an experienced plumber who wouldn't tear up our house trying to find this leak. We called Douglas Orr Plumbing and explained our problem and they sent out a plumber named Nestor. He showed up 20 minutes before he was supposed to which I loved and was fully prepared in every way to tackle my problem. He found the leak within minutes and fully explained to me the options on how to fix it. After considering all the options, my wife and I decided that drilling through the slab to repair the leak was the best option even though drilling through the living room floor made us very nervous. We also thought to start early the next day and get a fresh start to do this was best. Nestor again showed up 20 minutes early the next morning and was fully prepared. He went above and beyond to help me cover everything to prevent it from getting dust on it. He then only had to take up one tile to repair the cracked pipe and then poured cement to repair the slab, all done in a couple of hours. I can't say enough good things about this man who never took a break and takes pride in his work. We were so stressed out at the thought of having a water leak under our house but Nestor found the exact location of the leak and was able to repair it with minimal damage and inconvenience. For all of our future plumbing needs we will use Douglas Orr Plumbing and request Nestor. Thank you so much Nestor. This leak could have been a mess if not handled correctly by a man with so much plumbing knowledge.

We discovered a leak under the floor. Hot water was leaking inside the foundation. The company sent a plumber to troubleshoot the problem. He was able to find alternatives to ripping up the floor; something that would probably involved a jack hammer inside the house. He was able to isolate the leak and allow one side of the house to have hot water. The second day, the same repairman came back and was able to run the new pipes up through the walls, in the attic and back down the walls without tearing up the house. An assistant stepped through the ceiling; this was later repaired by the same company. All in all these people helped us dodge a major bullet.

Overall, my experience was very good. I would certaily reccomend them to anyone asking for plumbing help. .
Description of Work: Tom was about a half hour late, but, as I have also experienced, his GPS took him to the wrong address. It was no problem though. The main job was to change out the faucet in my second bathroom. He even tried to save me some money by telling me he could repair the old one. But I deferred to my original decision, as I liked the one I already purchased. He also performed 3 other plumbing issues that needed to be fixed. He did all extremely well.

The job started off bad this Miami Beach building was built in 1976 and the unit hasn't been touched since being built. So the unit's main shut off valve was broken. IT was too late to shut off the whole building, so i told him let me just pay for the call and I'll figure something else out. He could see my dissapointmet and wouldn't take no for a awnser. He ran down did something I don't wanna know about came up changed a total of 6 shut off valves in less than 5 minutes ran downstairs and bam was done. He noticed the pee trap was broken and fixed that to and was out the door in literally less than 30 minutes all the well 5 contractors were in the building laying new tile throughout. This guy was superman serious. Of all the negative stories you hear about Miami area contractors Orr plumbing is just the opposite I wouldn't hesitate a second to call them in the future.

I was very pleased with the pricing and quality of service provided by Douglas Orr Plumbing and especially the professionalism of plumber Manuel Rivero.
Description of Work: I contacted Douglas Orr Plumbing via phone as a result of reviewing Angie's List. The person answering the phone was very polite, courteous, and professional, and promptly dispatched a plumber, who arrived very quickly. The Plumber, Manuel Rivero, was very neat, friendly, and prompt. His work, replacing a "Wax Ring" under a bathroom toilet, was very professional and he cleaned up and tested the work before leaving.

I had 2 sinks in my bathroom, side by side sinks. The stoppers and the on and off things broke so they came out and fixed both of them. The guy was so nice. He fixed both faucets for $45.00. He said we had almost had it done, we had almost done the work. All he had to do was to put 2 little screws in there which a lot of companies would screw you just for coming out. They were very, very, very good. I will definitely call them again.

Luis explained to us what he needed to do,then worked diligently to complete the job as quickly as possible. The quality of his work was outststanding. And after all the work that he had to do, he left the bathroom as clean as it was when he arrived.
Description of Work: Our plumber (Luis) replaced the drain pipe in a pedestal sink that was so stuck due to many years of mineral deposits that I was unable to remove it myself. Next he replaced an old set of hot and cold faucets in the shower with a new single hot/cold faucet. This job involved removing tiles from the wall and chiseling through an inch of masonry to expose the pipes inside the wall. Lastly, he replaced the water cut-off valve for the toilet.

I called Douglas Orr because of a possible water leak between my condo unit and the one below. They were aware that the task was to determine the source of the leak to see if it was my responsibility to pay for the repairs in my neighbor's condo. The plumber arrived on time and within five minutes said that he did not see any issue in my unit. The president of the home owner's association and the handyman they hired had also arrived at the same time and were on site. Since nothing was apparent in my condo, all three men went to the unit below so that the handyman could cut the ceiling and the plumber could make an assessment. About ten minutes later the plumber came upstairs and stated that the leak was not coming from my unit but a pipe seal between the two units. My immediate response to his diagnosis was that the repairs were no longer my responsibility but that of the home owner's association. At that point he began hemming and hawing and saying that the pipe was still part of my unit. I was not sure why he was acting that way until later. Anyway, he then left my unit and I expected him to return with the paperwork for the service call. Nearly two hours passed and I heard work going on in the other unit. I was not alarmed because the handyman for the association was expected to be making the repairs, to both the pipe and the ceiling. However, when the plumber did not return I wondered if he had settled the bill with the H.O.A. president and left. Just to be sure, I went downstairs and asked the neighbor if the plumber was still there. I was surprised when he said yes, and I asked that he step outside. The plumber came out covered in drywall and goodness knows what else because he had been making the repairs - WITHOUT AN ESTIMATE OR MY CONSENT. I asked if he understood that the repairs were the responsibility of the H.O.A. and he said yes, and that it was 'good for me' that I wouldn't have to pay. Yet an hour later he sauntered into my unit with the bill and said that it was company policy that I pay it in full! I reiterated what he had acknowledged only an hour earlier and pointed out that he had not come back to me with an estimate or gained my authorization, either verbally or in writing. He insisted that it was policy and called his office. The woman on the phone explained further about how it was company policy that the person who makes the call pay for the charges, and that they do not interfere with condo owners and the H.O.A. I asked if I could at least submit the invoice to the H.O.A. so that they could review it. I even said that if the H.O.A. ultimately refused to pay, I would be willing to take up the cost myself, but she refused. She kept repeating that they had done nothing wrong because to call them is to expect them to do the job. Worse still, she said that they never give their clients estimates beforehand. Who does that? Well guess what, a service call is not equivalent to doing a high value repair IN SOMEONE ELSE'S HOME WITHOUT ANYONE'S PERMISSION. Finally, I had to let them run my credit card just to get the plumber out of my house. At that point he even joked that if he wanted, he could have escalated the charges to over $1,000 and that I would still have to pay! After he left, I spoke with the H.O.A. president and he said that the plumber sent the association's handyman away in order to do the job himself and collect afterward. No wonder the plumber was trying to assign blame for the leak on my unit. I called the Douglass Orr office once more and asked for a refund because they had essentially forced my hand - but to no avail. The woman then said that she would have her boss call me the next morning to sort the matter out but he didn't bother. Though I provided her with two phone numbers, I didn't get so much as a message. The actions of this plumber and this company are dishonest and untenable. I am so disappointed and cannot recommend them to anyone. Update: I have had great difficulty contacting Douglas Orr over the past few months because when I call they often claim Mr. Berounsky (the man who was handling my case, so to speak) is not in the office. Actually, the only reason they finally responded is because they were notified of my review here and the Chase dispute that I filed. They made absolutely no apologies for the actions of their employee or their dishonest company policies. However, they seemed to have issued a $90.00 refund a few days ago, which does not honor the $100.00 Mr. Berounsky said would be returned, and is certainly no resolution to the remaining $390 or so that I have to pay for repairs for which I did not give consent.
Description of Work: Made repairs without providing an estimate, or gaining my consent through a work order.

[member name removed] placed a service call with our company on 11-20-13. The problem called in by customer “leak between walls into other apartment below. Customer has someone to cut thru ceiling that morning in apartment below”. Our technician Tommy Tighe arrived to call and was taken down to the unit below by [member name removed], (Board Member?), and handyman (to cut open ceiling). Board member left, handyman opened the wall. Our tech located a leak in a 4” pipe that was coming from the concrete sleeve. Plumber began working to repair the leak. Total time on the job was 5 hours. During the repair [member name removed] was surprised that our technician was still on site repairing the leak. He was mid way through the repair and had to replace the leaking pipe that was removed. Plumber presented [member name removed] with the invoice of $480.75. Customer signed and paid the bill with a credit card. After the call was complete there was communication between [member name removed] and Board Director about who should pay the bill. Our company policy is to collect from the person who placed the call. This avoids us from being caught in the middle and not getting paid. The leak turned out to actually be a leak that the building is responsible for. We were called out by [member name removed] and the building opened up the ceiling for us to make the repair. The building should reimburse [member name removed] for the service call. After speaking to [member name removed], I agreed to Call “Board Director” to speak on behalf of [member name removed]. The Board Director also agreed that it is the building’s responsibility. Board Director is presenting this invoice to the Board during their Dec. 18th meeting. I was promised a call from Board Director with their finding. ON the side, I agreed with [member name removed], if the Board did not pay the full amount, we would take $100.00 off of the invoice. Our sewer line started backing up into the shower, so we had several companies come out to try to snake the drain. Douglas Orr was the third company to attempt it, and the third one to tell us we needed to replace it. We decided to use them because of the professionalism of the plumber Manny and his assistant, as well as their clear communication and explanation of the problem and the work that needed to be done. We got an estimate from them that seemed high, so I asked the estimator JC to break down the costs for me. He explained that because of the location of the sewer line, they need to dig the trench to replace it by hand - also, the ground has a great deal of coral rock and roots so it is a difficult excavation requiring many hours of labor, and they expected it to take a minimum of five days. They also needed to turn some of the pipes under the house around because the old sewer line ran under our neighbors fence and we didn't want to have to dig in their yard, so they actually brought the new sewer line out of the front of the house rather than the side. They ended up finishing the whole job in three and a half days, and gave me a significant discount on the final bill because the number of hours of labor required to dig the trench was much less than anticipated. The job was done quickly and cleanly, faster than expected and under budget. They listened to my concerns, communicated clearly, and delivered the right result. Overall, this was a great experience and I would use them again.

Apart from being late (luckily I had set several hours aside in order to wait for them) I was very happy with all the services. The plumber fixed two out of the three sinks in a very short time. The third sink, which needed the bowl to be tightened, needed a larger hole to be cut in the marble counter top but he took the sink apart to check and was able able to give me options and further instruction for a permanent fix.
Description of Work: I had two clogged sinks and one sink bowl that was loose. Plumber unclogged both sinks, one of those sinks was attached to a garbage disposal. The loose sink bowl was tightened. Even though it could not be properly fixed that day (need someone to cut a larger hole in marble counter top) he gave me exact instructions and helped me understand what I would need in order to get a permanent fix.

Good service, clean guy came and did the work in an efficient manner. I was taken aback though at the price when he was done. I was thinking it would be about $ 80-100 but found out it was $ 156.00. However again the company was fast & efficient.

Customer, Thank you for contacting our company. Our prices are right in the middle of the local industry. However, all of our plumbers are licensed and have received at least 5 years in plumbing school and jobsite training. We hope to be your plumber as long as you live hear. If you have any questions you can reach me at 305-887-1687. Thank you, Kevin B

I contacted this Company for an estimate. The man that returned my phone call was very condescending. The bid he returned was incomplete, i.e. he couldn't be bothered to do his work as an estimator. It excluded overtime, (what was the time allotted?), it excluded permits (did I need to pull a permit?), it didn't address drilling out the granite, even though I indicated I wanted a switch on the backsplash or countertop. He wanted to put it under the sink cabinet (that is the easiest, sloppiest, most inconvenient place.) I told him I wanted an "air switch" on the countertop deck, he informed me that he had never heard of such a thing and he has been a plumber for 25 years. I had to email him the product information from InSinkErator. I would't let this man cross my thresh hold. I have 15 years experience as a professional Kitchen and Bath Designer.

Customer, I spoke to my estimator and he promised me that he was not condescending. Unfortunately, we do not drill into granite. The exclusions that were put on the proposal are normal exclusions that are put on every proposal. It states no overtime and permit are included in the proposal. As far as the air switch, he told me he had never heard of that. I have, and I'm surprised he hasn't. I told him that he is turning into an "oldschool" plumber. I'm sorry things didn't work out and we will use your reply as a training tool. Thank you, Kevin B.
