I contracted with Mr.Sparky to have a surge protector installed in my circuit breaker box. The electrician Kevin Court should have limited himself to this task. But instead, he proceeded to look around and noticed that I had a new kitchen. He asked if I had purchased the condo that way or if I had had it renovated. When I replied that I was the one who had it renovated, he asked me if I wanted him to check out everything to make sure it was all right. I told him no, that I was satisfied with the way the job was done and the results. He totally disregarded my wishes and went into the kitchen area anyway and proceeded to tell me that there were some code violations. He offered to correct them. I told him again that I was satisfied with the way things were and was not interested in having him do any additional work. Before leaving, he had me sign a form indicating that I didn't want him to correct any code violations. I am really annoyed at this company for this tactic of trying to get more business and, of course, more money. I am really angry that this person entered my home with total disregard for my privacy and my wishes. I am upset that Angie's List would have recommended a Big Deal through this company. Needles to say, I will never call them for any additional work.
"I am so sorry that you miss understood our companies intentions. When we go to the home of our customers we always make sure their home, and family are safe. If there is a safety issue we bring it to the home owners attention as Kevin did in your case. As a licensed electrical company not only is it our job to make sure you are safe but our commitment to you and the community. It is the policy of the company when we see code violations to let you know and ask if you want them repaired. If you decline to have this done we ask the customer to sign off on it since we were the last electrician in your home. I completely understand if you are not aware of the functionality and or reason for a GFCI being part of the NEC code and why it is required. I would like to share with you why these are installed. The outlet is called a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). It's there to protect you from electrical shock. GFCI’s are installed for several reasons 1) it is the code and we do everything up to code 2) safety to families living in the home and 3) the GFCI cuts power to the outlet quicker and with less ground fault then it takes for the breaker to do the same thing. These few seconds can possibly make the difference between a minor and or serious injury. We sincerely hope you except our apologies. However, safety is our number “1” priority and we will continue to make sure our customers are safe. Sincerely, Deena Court, General Manager"
J.C.also patiently answered my questions about electrical needs for my generator. Because of J.C. I will use Mr. Sparky for all of my electrical needs in the future, including the installation of a transfer switch for my generator.
