Mr. Carbonneau kept all his promises. When he saw that he was running behind for our first appointment he called and
let us know that.  He explained to us what he would do and  when he could do it. He kept the work area very clean , worked
efficiently and professionally. He kept all the time frames that he promised. He was accompanied by his son who likewise was
courteous, efficient  and professional. It was heartwarming to see a father and son team work so well together.  We would gladly use them again or recommend them to anyone who may be in need of the services that they offer,

As of today, this man has our money, but we still do not have any new windows. This is preventing us from selling our home. I feel like I am getting the run around from this company.
Response from CARBONNEAU'S Impact Windows, Doors and Screening

"Customer forgot to include some vital information. The customer had signed a contract for new windows on Feb 14 2014. the windows were ordered on Feb 17, 2014. The windows ordered were ALL CUSTOM SIZES. We get a call one week later saying that they were in a car accident and to cancel the order. The order could not be cancelled at that time per the window MFG Co., which was explained to the customer. She then contacted an Attorney in which they are still trying to work things out with my Attorney. So far as of today nothing has been agreed upon. I am still willing and always have been willing to work with my customer to resolve any issues. Both Lawyers have been also trying to work out some type of agreeable resolution for both parties"

My husband and I bought a home and the windows did not have any screens.  we called several companies and the average install date was about  3-4 weeks.  With CARBONNEAU'S Mike came, measured, and installed with in 1 week.  the price was very reasonable.  I would surely use them again in the future if I need to.  THANKS!!

They were great. The work was great, very nice to talk to. The only drawback was scheduling the time to complete the job. We called them originally in April and they came quick to give estimate. Then from then til 05/14/2014 it was nightmare to schedule appointment time. I would call the office and the lady would tell me that she would have guy call. I would give my cell but he kept leaving messages on home phone. I will take say part of the scheduling was my fault as well. I have a very busy schedule and am not flexible. Overall though I felt they completed the work and was a fair price.

At first, everything went well...according to plan.  We found Carbonneau's Home Repair on Angie's list under "window repair and replacement" and they had an A rating with positive reviews. I called and spoke with Gem(?) to schedule an appointment for an estimate to replace a cracked glass window in our condo on the 15th floor.  Mike showed up at the appointed time, inspected the window to be repaired, provided an estimate and said if we wanted to accept it, call the office to schedule a time  and date for the repair....which we subsequently did.
On April 17th, Mike arrived to remove and then replace the glass on the window at the appointed time and began the work.  Soon, however, it became apparent that he was not going to be able to remove the  glass from the window.  He fiddled with it for awhile, appeared to have damaged the frame, and then said he would have to have another employee join him at a later date to get the job done. He said he would work with us to reschedule the appointment. On April 28th Gem(?) called to reschedule the appointment for Thursday, May 1st.  However she was unaware of what transpired with Mike the first time and knew nothing about Mike needing or planning to bring another employee with him to complete the job.  She said she would check and call back. We did not hear back from her, so early on May 1st, we called, left a voice mail about the impending appointment.  She called back that morning professing to know nothing of an appointment for that day, and also at first, suggesting we never talked on the 28th of April. Sharing the record of the call from our phone Caller ID list, etc., she apologized and again said she would talk with Mike and call back to schedule the appointment.  Then on May 7th when we finally heard form her, she indicated that Mike was not  going to do the job.
What we now believe to be true is that Mike was incapable of completing the job from Day 1.  He could have saved us time, aggravation, and their reputation if he just admitted so at first. That would have been understandable and acceptable. What is unacceptable is to deny a conversation occurred, and then coming to the conclusion that they weren't going to complete the repair, and not say anything about taking responsibility for the damage to the frame.
We called another company, and within three days had an estimate and a completed repair which also included the damage to the frame done by Mike.
We cannot recommend Carbonneau's.

We called Mike Shea for an estimate in March after searching Angie's List for contractors. He was prompt, professional and easy to work with. Mike sent us an estimate via email within 48 hours. The estimate was fair. We had two other estimates that were in the same price range. We chose Mike because 13 years ago we had a burglary and Mike came to our house to fix  broken windows and torn screens and was prompt and professional. We knew the work would be excellent.

Mike sent us a permit package for the city which we completed and sent back to him.  He ordered the doors and got the permit issued. We received a call and scheduled the install for Monday April 21, 2014.  Mike's crew was scheduled to arrive at 9. They called to say the truck would not start and that they would be there by noon.  the crew arrived, was very professional, installed the doors and cleaned up. No mess!. The office arranged for the city inspector to come out the following Wednesday, April 23, 2014. The doors passed inspection with no problem.  We highly recommend Carbonneau.

They are fantastic. They do high quality work. They are also very clean. I picked out the materials and they picked it up, paid for it and just added it to my final bill. They found that some materials were not available, found some at another location and picked them up at no additional charge. They really go above and beyond anyone I have worked with. They do everything they can to make sure I was happy with the end product. I plan on using them again.

Mr. Carbonneau showed up at the house early Tuesday (New Years Eve) morning, looked at the door, said he had another job and would come back later to get the door. He came back to get the door and took it away. A couple hours later he was back, door installed and the new glass was perfect. We couldn't hope for better, his service was great.

Carbonneau's was able to give us an appointment right away. We had recent no shows from other companies we tried to use (some of them with good ratings on Angie's list). I believe since it was a smaller job, a lot of providers weren't interested. We received a quote right away. The windows took a few weeks to be received by provider after they were ordered.
Once we scheduled the appointment to install the windows everything was smooth. Job took about 2 hours.

Carbonneau's was great.  They answered the phone right away, sent someone to do a quote, then were there quickly to replace the windows.  The price was good for three large windows with a hand-applied pattern on them and the work was done fast.  Very professional people and pleasant to deal with.

Galaxy Windows Manufacturing Design and Quality Control Failures

1.    As manufactured and installed, opening or closing patio sliding windows required far more effort than my wife or I can exert.  After a delay of another seven weeks, a single brass roller was installed in the bottom corner of sliders.
2.    Patio sliders bear a label stating: "NOA # 08-0709.19... Double Hung".  Windows are sliders, not double hung.  Per Jaime D. Gascon, Supervisor, Product Control Section, Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (certifying agency for impact windows):  "Proof of certification as a sliding  window must be verified..."  (See attached photos).
3.    Six of the ten single hung windows installed required replacing their balance springs immediately after installation.
4.    Replacing the balance springs in these windows requires use of a heat gun to enable distortion of the window frame.
5.    Several days after installation, a window lock fell off a patio slider.
6.    Screens cannot be removed from any of the ten single hung windows because the bottom, horizontal sealing lip is too high.
7.    Bottom (opening) sash of single hung bath windows raises only half way, greatly restricting air flow.
8.    As supplied, outboard sliding patio windows had no stop to prevent (plastic) window locks from hitting window frame when windows fully opened.
9.    Initially Galaxy's Paul Gatto said the roller parts for the patio windows would be available in two weeks.  This was then extended to seven weeks.

Carbonneau's Installation Failures

These windows are still in place with all their flaws.  They are available for inspection by any qualified third party.

1.    The contract signed January 14, 2013 called for windows to be installed in approximately six weeks.  Nine months later I still do not have acceptable impact windows.  During this delay, I had to pay  over $4,000 for condo maintenance, property taxes and insurance on a home I could not occupy.
2.    Fasteners improperly placed and inadequate to hold windows in place.  (See photos.)
3.    Gaps between window frame and building enclosure not properly shimmed at fasteners, frames distorted.   (i.e. patio middle slider frame bowed and had reveal spacing as follows: Bottom: 0.0" Middle: 0.143" Top: 0.100")  (See photos.)
4.    No breaker rod or window foam was used to seal and insulate between window frames and building enclosure.  (See  photos.)
5.    Gap between building and window frames not caulked from outside.  On May 13, I saw daylight from inside the master bath between the window and the building and insisted on caulking all windows from the outside.  Had I not seen this gap, Carbonneau's would have left me with no caulking and 10 leaking windows.  Caulking not done until May 28, so all windows open to weather from April 4 install until May 28.  (See photos.)
6.    Later "Corrections" to faulty install (by Bill Conrad) were limited to cosmetic changes and only those faults which I already pointed out.  (i.e. The bow in patio window frame was "fixed" by driving wedges inside the frame channel to attempt straightening the bow in the reveal between window and frame.  A proper fix would have removed the window, properly shimmed between window frame and building at every fastener, injected window foam between frame and building and masked and caulked from the outside.)
7.    Installer Dan  drilled three holes into patio floor and through ceiling of apartment below.  (Owner complained to me and said he had registered a formal complaint with Wynmoor Condo Association.  No release of liability has been obtained by Carbonneau's from damaged owner.)
8.    Patio window wall leaked seriously during rains night of April 4.  Probable leaks from uncaulked single hung windows into inner wall spaces.
9.    Excessive caulk left oozing out between joins on exterior of window wall.  No masking tape used.  (See photos.)
10.  Reveals between patio sliding windows and frames taper, demonstrating an out of plumb or out of square condition, or both.
11.  Moldings added to inside of windows cut too short.  (i.e. top master bath, major length of horizontal trim under center slider panel)
12.  Major horizontal supporting extrusion in patio window wall cut short, leaving both ends open and not joining vertical mulls.  (See photo.)
13.  Patio sliding windows had no stop to prevent (plastic) window locks from hitting window frame when windows fully opened.
14.  Door latch plate lip ground off, allowing a credit card to pop latch.  (See photo.)
15.  Door latch plate screws standing proud above latch.
16.  Door latch plate screws common, not stainless steel.
17.  Removal of old door frame damaged stucco and repair ugly and amateurish.  (See photos.) 18.  Gap between door threshold and tile filled with grout not matching existing tile or grout.
19.  Unsightly caulk puddle on top of door sill screws.
20.  Door casing fastener holes not filled level with casings.
21. In emails sent July 4 and 10 I pointed out that window screens were impossible to remove  and that latch lip on entry door had been ground off.  (See photos.)  Carbonneau's failed to respond to these emails or even acknowledge receipt of them though a received receipt was requested.
22.  Finally fed up with their incompetence and lack of response, on July 11 I sent Carbonneau's a certified letter informing them that they were fired and I was changing contractors.
23. On August 22, as owner of the property, I filed and paid for a permit extension from Coconut Creek Building Department.

Member?s Rebuttal to Carbonneau's Response

Following quotes from Carbonneau's are responded to by Angie's member:

1.    "He had told me last month he would do " whatever it takes to bring Carbonneaus Home repair down and out of Business"  On September 3, I emailed Carbonneau's suggesting an amicable settlement and was told to contact their lawyer.  My only interest is in having acceptable impact windows, not destroying any business.
2.    "[member name removed] decided he wants new Aluminum Windows instead of the Vinyl Windows"  I have no idea where this came from.  I've never mentioned aluminum windows. 3.    "He signed a contract"   Yes, and that contract was also signed by Carbonneau's and stipulated job completion in approximately 6 weeks.  Nine months later Carbonneau's has not completed the job.
4.    "refused entrance to the local Building Inspector"  I have been traveling out of state since July 17 and only returned October 17.  On July 11 Carbonneau's was fired via certified letter and I am still working out a Change of Contractor with the building department.  I would not allow Carbonneau's in my apartment ever again.
5.    "I even bought a Special Door Bell"  After Carbonneau's destroyed the door bell that was in the old door frame, I would expect it to be replaced.
6.
Response from CARBONNEAU'S Impact Windows, Doors and Screening

"An executed contract was made between Carbonneau’s Home Repair and [member name removed] dated January 14, 2013 detailing the specific work in reference to installation of windows to be done for [member name removed] at his residence of [member address removed]. A copy of the contract is attached as Exhibit “A”. Once installation of the windows were completed by Carbonneau’s Home Repair at [member address removed] residence, the client, [member name removed], was not satisfied with the results stating that “some of the window sashes would not stay up” and other issued listed as Exhibit “B”. Carbonneau’s Home Repair immediately contacted Galaxy Window and Door made arrangements to resolve any issues that [member name removed] had in reference to the windows. A completed list of work completed by Galaxy Window and Door is attached as Exhibit “C” and [member name removed] at the time of the completion was satisfied. After the completion, [member name removed] did call again to Carbonneau’s Home Repair and stated that there were other defects from the windows in the other rooms, more specifically the Florida Room. Galaxy Window and Door made arrangements to follow up on the issue and had also resolved it to the client’s satisfaction. Several weeks later, [member name removed] again called Carbonneau’s Home Repair in reference to the “windows squeak when you open and close them”. Galaxy Window and Door, again, made arrangements to inspect the issue to discover that there was drywall dust and construction debris in the window tracks due to construction around the area. Galaxy Window and Door resolved the matter to the client’s satisfaction. A letter from the manufacturer Galaxy Window and Door is attached as Exhibit “D”. Per building requirements, and inspection must be made by the city after completion of the windows. Carbonneau’s Home Repair contacted [member name removed] in reference to the inspection dates however during the time of the inspection, [member name removed] refused to let the inspector in. Due to [member name removed] refusal of the inspection, Carbonneau’s Home Repair was forced to incur fees of applying for the extension of the permit until inspection can be completed. Attached is a copy of Request for Permit Extension and status as Exhibit “E”. We at Carbonneau’s Home Repair and Galaxy Window and Door believe that we have made faithful and good attempts to resolve the issues with [member name removed]."

I called Carbonneau's Home Repair on 9/13/13 in the morning and explained to Mike that I thought a balance rod was broken in one of my windows.  He asked if I could take pictures of the balance rod and the window and email the pictures to him.  He explained that there were many different types of balance rods.  He said each balance rod had a code number on it.  He asked if I could pull the rod up more from where it was sticking up from the window.  I said I would try.  I could pull the rod up enough to see the code and emailed a picture of it to him.  He said he would check his inventory to make sure he had that specific balance rod in stock.  He called back and told me he had those balance rods and said he could come out that afternoon between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.  He arrived at 4:45 p.m. and installed two balance rods in a very neat and professional manner.  He was finished by 5:15 p.m.  By taking the photos and knowing the code number on the balance rods, he was able to bring the right parts with him and avert more than one trip to determine which parts were needed for the job.  I am extremely satisfied with the work performed by Mike and would call Carbonneau's Home Repair again for any future work that I need.

Overall everything went great. We had our original, 1980, side garage door and sliding glass door on the patio replaced with  hurricane impact ones. Mike came out at the said appt. time and gave me all the info and options. I was sent a estimate by email after a couple days. We decided to have the work done and gave them 50% of the total cost and was told it would it would be done in 4 to 6 weeks because the doors would have to be ordered. At the 6th week I called to see what the status was and was told the wait time on the large slider was longer than expected, I'm in the service business also so I can understand but they should have called me. 1 week later I was told the doors were ready and the appt. was made. The guys came out a half our early and worked all day. They did a great job and cleaned up everything. The large slider was not a cheap door and it's really nice. Their office called the following day to make sure all went well. We are very pleased with our new doors and would use Carbonneau's again. Thanks.
