We had significant damage to our home from hurricane Irma. I contacted the insurance company 6 times over a 2 week period and couldn’t even get an appointment to have an adjuster peruse the damage. My son suggested I call Nigel from 5 Star. Nigel was able to settle our insurance claim for probably 3 times what we could have gotten on our own. He and his group are great at what they do - always very attentive, prompt and professional.

After experiencing some roof and screen damage we saw a community Facebook post about Five Star adjusting. Rather than going it alone with the insurance company, we enlisted the help of Nigel at Five Star. Nigel and the team at Five Star Claims Asjusting helped me navigate the claims process and deal with a less than responsive insurance company. Back in May 2015 there was a hail storm that impacted a large part of the Oviedo community. As a Florida native I'd never really paid too much attention to storms and while the storm that damaged our roof was memorable, I didn't think to have an inspection done of our roof because I'd experienced so many noisy, intense storms before and we are first-time homeowners so we didn't know better. For months following the storm we had our mailbox stuffed with offers from fly-by-night roofers and we noticed many roofs being replaced in the neighborhood. In October I decided to contact our insurance company to ask what the process was for submitting a claim should we have hail damage. They suggested we have a roofer come out first to assess the situation before submitting a claim. At that point we contacted a reputable roofing company and upon inspection he determined there was in fact hail damage. We then submitted a claim to our insurance company which started a series of meetings with adjusters and other reps from the insurance company. Their determination was our roof is old (it is 20 years old) and basically wasn't put together well (strange because almost all the houses in our neighborhood are within a year or two of construction and their insurance companies did not say the same thing). We accepted defeat at that point and I called another roofer to start getting quotes on this costly project. Second roofer comes out and without any mention of our insurance claim says "Did you know you have hail damage?"

At that point I told him about our experience with the insurance company and he referred us to a public adjuster. To keep that story short the adjuster we "worked" with was horrible. He never responded to calls or emails, took weeks to reply to any of our attempts to contact him and nothing was getting done. After 6 months of waiting on him and our insurance even saying they couldn't get a hold of him we asked to be released from our contract. Thankfully he did that without a fight. At this point we were already in the appraisal stage with the insurance company and we had lost any hope of getting treated fairly or having any other public adjuster want to help us.

After checking Angie's List for another public adjuster I came across 5 Star Claims Adjusting. I contacted them and spoke to Nigel and he patiently listened to this long story. He was very frank and honest with me which was refreshing. He didn't make it sound like it was in the bag. Unlike other adjusters who over the phone, without seeing anything, agreed to send over a contract, Nigel made an appointment that was conducive to my work schedule and came over to see the house. Even at that point he continued to be realistic with us and not overly optimistic.

In conclusion, Nigel was able to get us enough money to cover our roof. He did all of this in less than 6 weeks. He was honest, easy to get a hold of and very pleasant to work with. I'd recommend him to ANYONE. No one can guarantee they can get you a positive outcome, but dealing with someone who is professional and has open lines of communication certainly makes the terrible experience of dealing with insurance more enjoyable.

Just wanted to leave a recommendation here for anyone going through a home insurance claim and looking for a great public adjuster. In July we discovered a water leak in our home and thankfully decided to get a public adjuster to help us navigate the claim with our insurance company. Background:  

In January, copper pipes in my house developed leaks, causing water damage.  My homeowners insurance company promptly  responded, sent their adjuster out, and then went dead silent--refusing to return my calls or provide any information as to the status of my claim for months.  Eventually, I received a check in the mail for a token amount--nothing approaching what it would take to restore my house to its previous condition.

I tried on my own to get an estimate of what a fair amount would be to make me whole again, and to work with the insurance company, but was making no headway.

Then, I read that there are professionals called Public Adjusters that represent homeowners against insurance companies.  I turned to Angie's List and found Nigel Bogaert and Five Star Claims Adjusting.

Nigel quickly mobilized his team.  An estimator took thorough measurements of the affected areas, then Nigel produced a detailed, realistic estimate of how much money it would take to restore my home--which was not the lowball amount the insurance company had hoped I would accept with question.  In just a few weeks, Nigel successfully negotiated a settlement that was four times the amount previously offered by the insurance company; enough to return my house to its market value before the water damage.  

I am so happy with my experience with Five Star.  It was apparent from the beginning that I was dealing with a company that knows what they're doing and that values their customers.  Nigel is someone you immediately feel at ease with--personable, highly professional, and always quickly to respond to my calls.  

Five Star did what I would never have been able to do myself--get the insurance company to take my claim serously and agree to make me whole again.  The fee for the service was 20% of the additional money he got me; well worth it for the settlement he negotiated.  

My advice, if you find yourself with damage to your home, is to engage Five Star early in the process, saving yourself time and trouble trying to negotiate with your insurance company.  While you pay your insurance premiums in good faith, it is in your insurance company's best interests to pay you as little as they can get away with.  You need someone going to bat for you against the "big guys" when that happens.  

From my experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Five Star Claims Adjusting.

We had old water damage and thought it was too late to recover anything from insurance. Nigel performed a complimentary review and led us through the steps necessary to uncover that we actually had MOLD and repairs needed to be done. We never would have known!

Now we have a hefty settlement check thanks to Nigel's work. We have our mold remediation and repairs in the books? and we'll still have a few dollars leftover after :)

called Five Star Claim Adjusting when I notice my customer had additional damage in a area of the living room had a water damage when the insurance had only service the bathroom area in the other side of the wall. Nigel Bogaert as an adjuster went to my customers house to take pictures and marked down all the damages. He was the right person to call.  He suggested a company to dry and clean and treat the water damage area. He helps to fill out all the forms and explains the details what he is going to help me for the claim. He represents me to follow up with insurance company and get the maximum money from the insurance company to fix the water damage.

Nigel was able to recover an additional 17,500.00 to replace the hardwood floors paint and drywall repairs.

Unfortunately, the hot water heater in my home recently went bad and all of the water in the tank dumped into the two bathrooms and my newly carpeted bedroom :((. Water damage is a scary thing, The mold word is something we want to avoid at all costs. I called ServPro to get the water out and then Nigel to figure out how all this was going to get paid for! He is an independent adjuster.

What did that do for me? I didn't have to deal with insurance company or do any followup on anything. Nigel was here when my insurance company adjuster came, pointed out all the things that would have to be covered. He talked with the water restoration people, made sure we had all the documentation needed. I did not have to pay any money up front to the restoration people (I would be responsible for the deductible amount of course, but that was deducted from the proceeds). With the exception of the inconvenience of those big fans and dehumidifiers in my home for 5 days it was a painless event. I have said to Nigel several times during this process I am so glad he is taking care of this because I certainly wouldn't have known what to do to insure that I was taking all necessary precautions to prevent mold. In the event mold was present it that it would be covered by the insurance company.

I am sharing this with you so that if this happens to you or anyone that you know you can feel comfortable calling him to help with whatever needs to be done to get the property restored. He has handled lots of water claims but that is not the only thing he does. He can be your representative for most property damage issues.
