My mother-in-law recently had her roof repaired by Alan's Roofing, Inc. The salesman quoted her the cost of $890.00 for repairs, despite her insistence that she did not agree with what he was attempting to sell her-- she wanted only the damaged shingles to be replaced, but the salesman told her "that will create a checkerboard look, we can do it this way and it will look much nicer." My mother-in-law did not care how it looked, she just wanted the damaged shingles replaced. The salesman quoted her the full "repair" price anyway. When the repairman showed up he told her that her roof did not require $890.00 worth of repairs and that he could fix it the way she had originally suggested. The repairman still charged her the full $890.00. His reasoning was that his "cost of labor" would still equal the original quote because he had to remove the tarps and concrete blocks that had been protecting the roof. He "didn't expect to have to do that" and informed my mother-in-law that it should have been done ahead of his scheduled repair time-- a fact that the salesman had neglected to inform my mother-in-law about. The problem lies in what was quoted vs. what was actually repaired, the miscommunication between both representatives from Alan's Roofing, Inc., and the overcharge my mother-in-law received. If the repairman thought the job required less than was quoted, he should have called his supervisor to have someone visit the home and re-quote OR he should have performed the repairs as stated on the original quote. The nonsense about excess labor should have been addressed with his supervisor, since my mother-in-law was not made aware of this precedent ahead of the scheduled repairs. (In the future, it would be wise to inform your clients of any obligations that must be performed on their end prior to the scheduled repair date.) My mother-in-law, an elderly woman desperately needing the repairs to be done to her roof because every storm could mean massive damage to her home, paid the full amount. She has attempted to contact Dave Meera about this issue several times. She has left numerous messages with no response back. She wrote a letter to Alan's Roofing, Inc. stating her concerns for being overcharged, and it reads as follows: "When the sales representative gave me a price to repair, he did not look at the roof. When the roofer repaired, he did not need to repair as much as the rep thought would be necessary. Therefore, I have wondered if the cost would be lower. I have called Dave Meera to ask him but have received no answer. I am paying the full amount with disappointment that I have not received a return call to have the opportunity to ask my question. Tracy Hanley 8-1-17" I am rating this company 1 out of 5 stars for their blatant neglect. The salesman attempted to oversell my mother-in-law, the repairman did not try to get a new quote and performed less work for the same amount of money, and there was no instruction on the removal of tarps or requirements from the homeowner before repairs. The major reason for my rating is the lack of response from Alan's Roofing, Inc. after the repairs. It seems to me that this company tries to pride itself on it's service, but as soon as they have their money they cut and run.
Description of Work: My mother-in-law required some repairs to her roof. Over time she's tried many things to fix her roof temporarily: holding tarps down with sandbags, concrete blocks, and yes, even nails. With the summer hurricane season upon us she was finally able to contact a roofer to come repair the shingles that were damaged. She only wanted the damaged shingles replaced, nothing more, and she had a TERRIBLE experience working with Alan's Roofing, Inc. Not only did she have a terrible experience (listed below) but she was also told by the salesman that there is a one year warranty on her repairs. On the Alan's Roofing, Inc. Facebook page it says "home of the lifetime warranty." So which is it? After Hurricane Irma some of the shingles that were "repaired" were torn off, and we have no idea how to get Alan's Roofing, Inc. to her home to honor the supposed warranty because, as you can read below, they refuse to answer her calls. An absolute mess of a company.
