They arrived when they said they would and did a great job. They completed the whole job in one day. Their communication was excellent; they followed with a rebate that no one knew about, after the fact.

They have been a good service, and I like using local people. They were very neat and cleaned up after the job. They all had good manners and were very professional. I feel that I made a good choice.

Our air conditioner broke in the middle of summer and my AC specialist wouldn't come out. I called Ierna's and he came out and fixed it right away. Next year I'll be replacing my air conditioner and I'm definitely going to use him. He has excellent reviews and a very nice reputation. He donates his time to children's home societies and helps a lot with the communities. He's a very professional man, and very respectable. The 345 dollar charge was our year's contract charge.

The unit never worked properly after they installed it. They came back numerous times to fix it, when they should have just replaced it. I would not use or recommend them. I think they're more concerned about just getting the unit installed rather than their customers.

We have been using their services for about five years. They offer a warranty for $700 for three years. They call to see if they can come out to check on the units. Their prices are reasonable, they are honest and come on time.

The service tech said there was a leak of Freon in the evaporator coil. He said he put in two pounds of Freon and reviewed a list of options (his recommendations) ranging from a new evaporator coil to a new top of the line system ($1,200 - $8,000). I hired another company to do another system check and to get a second opinion. They found no leak. I told him what Ierna's said and as a result had him do an electronic leak test. No leak was found.

After they removed the air-handler, I started doing the carpentry work needed to accommodate the duct work. I think the price was higher than it should have been since I did most of the carpentry work. The overall craftsmanship was poor since they always seemed to be in a hurry. I had them return because they allowed holes in the duct work. They did not follow up with a quality inspection. I asked them to check the system's performance, which should have been done after removing the air-handler. After a week, I had to hire another A/C company to check the system. That company told me the system was 50% undercharged which is why I was getting the noise in the evaporator coil.

The employee only checked the outside unit. He told me the contactor needed replacing, and the company was having a special for that part - get a service contract and a discount on the contactor. Otherwise the contactor would be $155. The three-year service contract was a few hundred. For a second opinion, I called Rheem Air Conditioning of Tampa, rated ''A'' on Angie's List. The contactor (just $25 with Rheem) on the outside unit did need replacing, but so did the duct work and the home's original air handler inside (totally falling apart: the previous home owner tried to tape up the duct work, but it wasn't helping; the coil was clogged beyond repair). The Rheem representative showed me everything. If I had hired Ierna, I would have had a crisis later to solve because the representative didn't look for all the problems.
Response from IERNA's Heating & Cooling

"The member contacted Ierna’s Heating & Cooling Inc to schedule a routine maintenance for 6/10/06, at a cost of $45. While performing maintenance on the system, the service technician noticed a burnt contactor, and recommended replacement at a cost of $110 (for the contactor only). The total cost, including the routine maintenance fee would have been $155. As well, our service technician recommended a 3 year prepaid maintenance plan for $350. Should the customer have opted to purchase the 3 year maintenance plan, Ierna’s Heating & Cooling waives the current charge of $45 for the routine maintenance. The prepaid maintenance plans also give those customers 20% off, which would have come off of the cost of the contactor in question. Please also note, the coils which are mentioned as to have been clogged would have been cleaned with the prepaid maintenance plan, as a standard procedure. The member opted to not purchase either recommendation, stating that she could not afford either at this time. As a result, the member was also extended a payment plan in order to fit her needs; and at the same time properly repair her system. She declined all recommendations, per Invoice #5494. Ierna’s Heating & Cooling did not feel the need to push the sale of a new unit on the member since she had expressed she was not financially able to afford the service technician’s recommendations. Furthermore, her AC system was only 6 years old. The average life of an AC system in Florida is 10-12 years. Ierna’s Heating & Cooling does not feel that the member AC system was in need of replacement just yet, as the system still had approximately 5-6 years left and the most important part of the unit (the compressor) was still under warranty at the time that another company sold the member an entirely new AC system. In conclusion, our service staff most certainly looked for all problems, however we pride our company in ethical sales tactics and we do not high pressure sale our customers new systems, especially when their current system is under a manufacturer warranty. We apologize that the member was unhappy with us for not recommending a new AC system, however given the circumstances she did not need a new AC system."
