We constantly help customers that found out by unfortunate circumstance that they had originally hired a broker or a mover that did not have the experience needed to properly disassemble, wrap, load or secure their shipment in a non van line transportation option. Here's some helpful information if you decide to do it on your own or with an inexperienced mover; • Mark the boxes with the destination room the go to. • Use baggies for screws, bolts and nuts and tape it to the piece they came from. • Make sure the high value items like electronics, collections and tools are in the middle of the load in case someone breaks in. • Use security seals and locks on all openings like doors or compartments. • Keep loaded rows straight up and across. • Fill in open spaces after pieces are in the pod or truck - like entertainment centers and armoires, to save space. • Use a mattress and box spring on the end to hold the shipment in. • Place glass and marble table tops between mattresses and box springs. • When loading a pod, make sure you tie ropes in the eyelets before covering them with the load. • Keep heavy items evenly disbursed across the load so it will be balanced. • When packing, use a lot of small boxes so you can fill in the gaps between furniture. • If you use a rental truck, remember that it will not handle or stop as well as it did when it was empty. • Many salespeople are not informed correctly about weigh stations on the highways, commercial motor vehicles weighing 26K pounds or more are required to go through the scales and department of Agriculture inspection stations or the driver may be subject to fines.
