After some investigation and research, I decided to get a second opinion from a local family-owened company. They came and took one look at my air conditioner and knew that One Hour Air had lied. He inspected the system and told me that it was in good working order: a bit worn from age but doing the job. He also told me that the price quote One Hour Air was extraordinarily high - by several thousands of dollars. One Hour Air quoted me $9,000 for the system and $11,000 for ductwork. The same system with the local provider would run about $4,000 and ductwork (which in his opinion, was fine) would be around $4,000 as well.
The local provider also stated that based on their observations, the work that was supposed to be completed by One Hour Air as part of the tune up was not completed. I called One Hour Air to ask for my money back and they refused without documentation from another certified company that they completed the work. Because no work was needed, the local provider did not provide me with an invoice and therefore, One Hour Air won't refund my money.
I attempted to receive a refund and, a month later, am still awaiting my refund. The provider agreed to refund my purchase after a heated debate. I was required to give my debit card number and was told that as soon as they received the signed authorization form noting my acceptance of the refund agreement, the money would be refunded. The agreement I received via certified mail requires me to remove all "negative" commentary from all online forums and prohibits me from sharing my concerns with the public in the future (or risk legal action). When I refused to do this as it violates my right as a consumer, I was told a refund will not be issued.
I used this company to replace my air handler and heat pump in June 2014. A 2 ton unit cost me $9500 for what I later learned, several sold for thousands less. Guess that is what Scotts one hour air does to elderly retirees.
During installation they broke my main water pipe. while pulling out the old pipe from the air handler to the unit, they violently pulled the old pipe which lie alongside my main water feed. After the installation all seemed well until December when I turned my heat on. No heat. I had a fancy thermostat that they moved to the new unit but was apparently incompatible with their system. The heat would not switch over. The unit came with a years service on labor, 10 years parts and warranty from the manufacturer. When I called they wanted to charge me for a service call until I protested.
Then they wanted to charge me $175 for a thermostat to replace mine. The thermostat they replaced it with sells on the internet for under $60. This is just over six months after I paid them THOUSANDS of DOLLARS more than I should have for my purchase. They did concede on the thermostat when I pulled out the original paperwork that listed a thermostat they had never given me. I have to laugh ... a Complete new unit with no thermostat. Like a car without a battery to start it.
Recommendation? The technicians seem qualified in their craft, However I would NOT recommend Scotts one hour air to my worst enemy unless you have money to throw away...
It was subsequently learned when the original thermostat was returned to the manufacturer for repair that it is in fact compatible with the new system. It is currently in and working properly. It was working properly with the old system. One can only guess that One hour air either shorted the thermostat during installation or installed it improperly.
& Heating on 4 Jan 2007. The warranty (in writing) says that One-Hour
covers 100% on all parts, labor, and compressor for TEN YEARS. Two of the ?lifetime
warranted? thermostats have become inoperative?A One-Hour technician came out
at 5:15 PM on Fri (10 Oct 2014) and said that the thermostats have a lifetime
warranty; however, he would have to charge me for labor?$184 each to install them
($368.00). I told him that was way too much?so, he left. I called One-Hour today and
requested that they send me the thermostats and I would get someone else to install
them at a much lower cost. So far, they have refused to honor their written
agreement and warranty. I have requested that the owner Scott Vigue call me?no
answer yet. Please help.

Came out on Saturday evening to find out why air conditioner was not cooling at all. Replaced 14 year old heat and air unit with installation done on Sunday, May 11 (Mother's Day). Very satisfied with representative on Saturday who answered my many questions about the old unit, etc., and very satisfied with installers on Sunday.
I had recently received a mailing from One Hour A/C for
$1000 a new A/C & Hetaing system.
Called and made an appointment for them to come out and recommend a new system (863-614-0473)
4/29/2009
I had One Hour Air come out and recommend a new system. Tim Swafford recommended the Premium Comfort System 15 SEER system, 48,000 BTU Split System, new 5" filtration system and Air Handler, clean ducts, 10 year parts & labor, 1 year comfort club membership. He went on and on about how great the 10 year premier warranty on parts and labor was and how One Hour Air stands behind their work. Before Tim left I told him that I couldn't find the original mailing I called in for with the $1000 off, but that I know I have it because I called them using that mailing. Tim told me no problem, just call him when I find it. Of course I found it right after he left.
4/30/2009 Installation of new system
Couldn't help but notice that the installers were wearing booties, but they never took them off when outside and tracked a bit of dirt inside. Also, when they cleaned the ducts... each room in the house had debris in it from around the air vents.
When they finished, no cleanup was done inside house or in the yard... and the items they removed from my laundry room (where the air handler was installed) was left out overnight. They had finished around 9pm. (I took some pictures of this)
They showed me where the central air filter was and how to change it. They also removed my two air intake filters in the house and said I have a main central air filter now that only has to be changed once per year. I wasn't real sure about the one that is on the other side of the wall from the air handler. It didn't look like it was before the main filter, but they told me not to put a filter in that vent because it would cause the air handler to work harder and again explained the single air filter concept to me again. I did as they said and did not place a filter in it and marked my calendar to check and replace the main filter each year.
The air in the house was nice and cold though, so I just cleaned up the mess myself.
I didn't even notice the Property Protection & Client Respect Guarantee that stated if the installers didn't clean up I would get a 5 year comfort club membership at no charge. But I had taken pictures of the mess, so I figured when I call Tim about the $1000 discount mailing had been found I would let him know about the mess then. Called the following Monday, Tim is on vacation... left message for him to call me. The next week after that I called again... can not seem to catch Tim, left voicemail. Called again and explained situation and for them to have manager or supervisor call me. They said he would.

My Laundry room has an inch of water in it... water appears to be coming from base of air handler, called One Hour Air to come out. They found the drain pan was cracked and repaired it. They said a new pan would be ordered and they would replace it.
Looking back I can't find any workorders that show the pan was replaced, but I do remember calling them out again due to water coming from base of air handler. Hopefully a workorder can be found at the company for this.

One Hour Air came out for the comfort club tune-up.
They notified me it would be $199.00 for another year. I told the tech that it hasn't been a year yet with my first year of the
membership. He said it was calendar year not a year from the date of install???
I reminded him that I never heard back about my $1000 discount or about the mess the installers left. He said that he would let his boss know and they would contact me. Reluctantly, thinking I had misunderstood the one year comfort club membership I went ahead and purchased another year.

One Hour Air came out for the comfort club tune-up.
I asked again about the air filter in the wall inside right on the other side of the air handler as was again told that I should not put a filter there or at the other intake on the other end of the house due to the single main filter at the air handler.
3/23/2011
One Hour Air came out for the comfort club tune-up.
Tech told me that I needed a stay clean strip... for the life of me I can't remember what that was or what it was for.
9/29/11
One Hour Air came out to do routine tune-up. I paid for this at the time of visit.
Didn't renew comfort club, since house was being sold.
7/8/2013
House has had 6 sales contracts (unfortunately none completed) on it so far and house has not been occoupied for the bulk of this time since during each sales contract the house was off the market for 90 days... A/C was only used when home was being shown to potential buyers. I check in on the house a couple of times a week and go through a routine of making sure everything is in order.
The house has a sales contract that hopefully will complete this time so I was doing some general cleanup and noticed that after an hour of having the A/C on it wasn't cooling. The outside unit was running, fan in it was running and air handler inside was running. Called for One Hour Air to come check it out.
7/9/2013
One Our Air tech came out and said that a couple of components appear to have gone bad in the outside unit. And that he thinks the compressor may be bad as well. Before he orders the work to be done he needed to take pictures of the evap coils.
Has to be seen to be believed! I looked at the evap coils when he had it open and I couldn't even see the coils! There must have been a 1 inch thick blanket of insulation and debris covering it. I even noted that I could see the inside of the house and carpet through the return vent that I was told repeatedly not to put a filter in. I have a closet full of filters that could have been used... (I always purchased my filters in bulk) So it's not like I didn't have any to install in that return. He told me that this would not be covered under warranty. I explained to him that I have changed my main air filter every year and even had the last year's filter still in the room, I showed him that you could see where it was dingy compared to the filter that was in the air handler (which looks brand new since at best it has seen 3 moths total usage since it had been installed.
The only way to explain that much debris covering the evap coils is:
1. The water damage from the leaking drain pan damaged the insulation in the base of the air handler. Yo ucan clearly see
where the insulation came apart right under the drain pan. You can also see the stains from the water line where it flooded.
2. The return vent on the inside of the house next to the air handler DID need a filter and did not go through the main filter as
I had been told multiple times.
3. There is NO way that all the the techs performing the tune-up checks actually checked or cleaned the evap coils as
they said. The service calls for the cracked pan probably would not have seen much debris since the system had only been in service for a month at most. You would think that the soaked insulation would have been noted and replaced...
If nothing else at least to prevent mildew or mold.
Now I am e
My A/C stopped working. Only the fan worked, which only put out warm air. The service guy from One Hour Air told me the compressor had ceased up and needed to be replaced with a new unit. I told him the air conditioner system was only 9 years old. He said he would see that he could do. I sat at the dining room table and as he tried to track down a new compressor for my unit. He found one in Orlando and could have it shipped. It would take two days, and cost $900.00, labor cost would be $200.00 more. He said it would be cheaper in the long run to replace the entire unit then just the compressor as my system uses two compressors one large one and one small one. It runs on the small one most of the time and the larger compressor only kicks on when the demand is greater. He said he could replace the broken large compressor but warned me the smaller one could stop working at any time. He inspected the rest of the system and told me the air handler in the attic was the wrong size and it too need to be replaced. There was another problem. My duct works were too small for the system and my duct work would also have to be replaced. He said the entire system needed to be replaced with a new outside unit, the proper size air handler and larger duct works system. This is where the fun really began. They could replace the outside unit install a new air handler, along with new duct works for only $23,000.00. Of course this was their top of the line package. The next lower level price was $18,000.00. The lowest price was $9,000.00 and uses the existing duct work. Talk about high pressure sales. I was a Navy Recruiter for 10 years I know sales. It seems that the technician was more salesman that an A/C repairman. I would bet he could sell sand to someone who lives on the beach. After an hour of this high pressure sale I finely got him to leave with no sales. I called Wingfield Air to come and take a look. Jeff found the problem which was a bad start up capacitor. Cost to repair was under $100.00. One Hour Air are crooks and liars. Their sale commission is more important that honest. I would not use them. I tell all my friends about them. They should not be allowed to do business in the state of Florida.
We had them come out once about a year later as our summer (Central Florida) was exceptionally hot and our bedroom was warmer than the rest of the house and the system was not cooling past the set temp and would run continuously. I deduced that our return was not big enough when the house was built and told them when they arrived that I thought we needed a larger return and that the thermostat was not calibrated. They agreed but the return could not be expanded where it was. So they calibrated the thermostat and installed a second 18x18 return in our master bedroom for $425.00, reasonable. The bedroom definitely cooled better but the system ran, and ran.
They then sent out their most "experienced" tech who spent two hours going through the system and told us that we needed to replace the entire system, air handler, condenser, slab, (for numerous reasons he explained but too many to list here) all of it and for a very reasonable price of only $9000.00!! I could not believe it but thought, "this is nationwide company so there has to be a reasonable explanation", plus they had been fine previously. They also said that they could try to clean the coils but the system was old and that I would have to sign a waiver that if they broke anything they would not be liable, to clean them would only be $700.00!!! Keep in mind this is a 10 year old 3 ton Florida system in a very modest 1600 sq ft house. We called the manager and asked why they charged us $425.00 to put in the return if they new the system needed to be replaced. he came out and apologized profusely. He gave us the $425.00 back and a "Comfort Club" membership for free for two years.
- We thought, "Cool, this seems to be alright", but my wife Facebooked for A/C contractors and a local company (highly recommended) came out. I thought they were about to die when we told him what they said about the price and this was before he even stepped in the door. In one hour (and no charge) later here is how it panned out:
- - No need to repair or replace anything. System is working fine they just needed to recalibrate the thermostat again. Worked fine since.
- - The system is old (in Florida years) and the coils were a little dirty and they would clean them for $148.00!!! WAY LESS THAN $700.00!!!
- - The system was older and would likely need to be replaced within the next 18 months but that it was running fine now. If they replaced (and they quoted EXACTLY the same equipment as one hour air), it would be $3100.00 INSTALLED!!! A third of what the rip off artists wanted.
We called One -Hour air immediately and cancelled everything with them. When the office person said but, but, but the "comfort club" is free I said it made no difference there will never be another One-Hour air product of employee in our home EVER!
