Manager of store and the sales rep were either difficult to get ahold of or did not return calls after deal was made and flooring was paid.
Where do I start without writing a book......
The salesman, Jim, sent "their normal trim" which was a POOR, POOR match to my chosen floor color, and an even POORER QUALITY material. The contractor installed it with glue that came loose within 1 hour of installation......did I mention it was a clear type of hot glue with 2-3 spots on a traffic area strip 5 foot long?
Needless to say, we were not happy, but the cuts to match existing trim was unprofessional AT BEST, and that is being kind.
I logged onto the manufacturer's website and found THE MATCHING TRIM COLOR to our floor. I called the manufacturer and asked if the trim was available. Yes was the answer. It was made to go with the flooring.
The next day, I called the store and asked for the salesman, Jim. He was not available and would not be in until late that morning. I asked for Richard, the store manager. I explained the situation. He said he would have Jim call. Jim did not call. I had to call Jim at the end of the day. Jim's reply was they ALWAYS USE the trim he ordered and sent out and sorry I wasn't happy. I asked that he order the matching trim from the manufacturer. Jim replied that there was not a matching trim. I repeated my call to the manufacturer. He said, Oh, well, that must be brand new because they didn't make that when i ordered your flooring. I said really? Not according to them. Please order and let's get it installed and please come back out and remeasure because the other installer was short trim and piecing it together and making sloppy cuts.
On top of the trim issues..........
Contractor took several boxes of material out of our house at the end of each working day saying they were defective and that we would be given credit or that the material would be replaced. After numerous calls to the manager regarding this issue, 11 months later we still have not received a credit or replacement of the material. The material was to be held by us, the home owner for any future issues needing repairs.
It was brought to our attention 30 days after installation that the contractor did not pay his employees for our job and several other jobs. The store manager was MAD at the contractors employee for letting us know instead of being concerned about the contractor being above board and honest. The unpaid employee was in need of his earnings because he was a single father of a young son. 5 days after we learned of the nonpayment situation for our job, that employee's son was diagnosed with cancer and admitted to Nemours Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, to which we made a call and confirmed. We then made a call to Richard, the store manager, asking that he pressure the contractor into paying the young man. Richard did not care and said we should not concern ourselves with such issues.
In the end, we NEVER RECEIVED REPLACEMENT MATERIAL WE PAID FOR THAT WAS REMOVED BY THE CONTRACTOR NOR DID WE RECEIVE A CREDIT. INSTEAD WE WERE TOLD BY THE STORE MANAGER THAT DAMAGE WAS TO BE EXPECTED AND WAS FACTORED IN TO THE PRICE. PLEASE NOTE, HE SAID THIS AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS REGARDING THIS ISSUE. THIS WAS NEVER MENTIONED DURING THE SELL OR MEASURING OR PAYMENT....OR...THE PREVIOUS PHONE CALLS. We were left with less than 9 pieces of flooring. Some pieces are not full pieces, so therefore, they are of no use to us.
The gentleman in charge of scheduling the jobs was absolutely a PERFECT 10!!! HE CARES!!!! He pressured the original contractor into paying the young man who installed our floor, although he was shorted numerous hours of pay? I confirmed with the scheduling manager the amount of time the young man spent working on our job for the 2 day install that took more than 12 hours each day. And, it was the scheduling manager who sent a different contractor to install the MATCHING floor trim. I was extremely pleased with the 2nd contractor. I wish I had had Alex, the second contracted installer from the beginning. All of the other issues could have been avoided with Alex.
OVERALL RATING.......that particular store is run in a manor that is clear the SOME do not value honesty in ALL ASPECTS OF THEIR BUSINESS to be important. Do NOT BUY here!
Thanks guys!
The salesman came out to our house in the next few days and was promptly on time. He measured the space and gave us the estimate. We have an area where the carpet meets tile and the builders only laid a basic tack strip. The original carpet pulled away, so the salesman told us we would do better with a Z bar strip that would hold the carpet in place better. He stated that he would 'throw in' this feature, but I'm sure its cost was built into the price somewhere. It did sound nice that we were getting a better feature for no additional cost. So, our final cost would be $1800 for the living area with small piece leading into a hall, the padding, the removal of the old carpet, and labor. This was a bit more expensive than our initial quote from the Blanding store, but we only came there with an estimate of the space, and with carpet you have to over buy to allow the installers to cut it to fit.
My husband was home for the installation. Again, the installers came promptly--towards the early side of the appointment time (not like the cable company that shows up after the 4-hour window!!) He said they worked quickly and professionally. I believe it was all done in less than 2 hours (new carpet in, laying the new Z bar, and old stuff removed). The installers even assisted my husband with laying some speaker wire to run underneath the new flooring. They helped him get it around the carpet tack strips on either sides of the room, so that the tacks didn't puncture the wiring.
All in all, we had a good experience.
