Showed up on time and inspected my chimney quickly. Informed that himney did not require cleaning but suggested a few maintence items that needed to be taken care of. Performed items and was totally satisfied with work. Also suggested some future maintence to be performed in the future that were not required yet.

We noticed wetness around the fireplace, and discovered that we had quite a bit of water penetration through our brick Chimney. Water seeped through, gathered, and then ran down our flu and dripped onto the fire bricks.
Eric came and evaluated the chimney, and did not find any obvious entry points at the cap area. The brick was discolor with black buildup, and had the beginnings of plant growth. He recommended pressure washing and sealing the chimney.
Scheduling was done through his employee back at the office. She was polite, prompt with returning calls, and notified us when Eric had arrived and left (Access was not needed to the inside to perform the work.)
The chimney looks GREAT, and we have not seen any further signs of water on the inside of the chimney.
Thanks Eric!

the gentleman who arrived on time was the owner of the company was very polite and efficient. he pointed out some problems with the storm collar at the top of the chimney that needed to be corrected immediately, which the owner did correct before we would proceed with the sale, and also some problems that could occur later on with recommendations on how to handle this along with pricing. he was very pleasant to work with and we will certainly call him when we are ready to do the additional work on the fireplace.

We recently moved into an historic fixer-upper home with a large fireplace. The previous homeowner said the chimney was safe to use. However, since most of the home is in a state of disrepair, we wanted a professional inspection of the chimney to confirm safety, and ideally a cleaning, before using it this winter.
A Clean Sweep provided a very fair quoted price for inspection and cleaning up front. Eric (from A Clean Sweep) arrived PROMPTLY! He was extremely thorough, professional, knowledgeable, and HONEST with us.
After thoroughly inspecting our chimney, he showed us photos and explained the safety issues in layman's terms. Unfortunately, our chimney is not safe to use in its current state, so he did not clean it. Eric very clearly explained several different options, ranging from capping the chimney to rebuilding.

This was an unusual experience. I had gotten a reference from a colleague at work about this company. They had replaced his chase cover/spark arrestor and cap on his chimney for $1200, he said ( I don't have first hand knowledge of what actual work was done). This seemed quite pricey to me but I thought I'd give them a try. The owner came out on time and seemed to be knowledgeable about fireplaces but from the beginning seemed to be resentful when my wife and I started asking too many questions - a red flag for me as I have hired many contractors over the years. He also was very opinionated, discounting several suggestions we had about what we wanted to do and appeared almost contrary if we didn't immediately agree with him. Nevertheless, he promised to give us a quote and he did about 3-4 days later. But the quote was not based upon what we asked for. When I asked him to please quote for what we asked for (which was a circulating fan in the fireplace) he said he'd call me back. Thirty minutes later he called back and told me the addition of a circulating fan would increase his quote from approximately $3300 to $6000 - an outrageous figure! I have since found another installer who's difference between a fireplace with and without a circulating fan is $400. It appears that he simply gave us a fictitious higher quote just to get rid of us - though he said that it was because we would have to move up to his suppliers and quot;next leveland quot; model which was much more expensive. Either he has a very limited choice of suppliers or ...what? My problem with him is this: first, please don't tell me what is best for me or my house - that's my business. If you want to give me the pro's and con's -sure, that's great, but then don't start arguing with me about it! Second, if you won't do work unless it's something you personally would do to your own house, just tell me that and I'll find someone else. One other thing. When I initially called the receptionist to make an appointment she was somewhat rude about me making a tentative appointment-their first available appointment was 10 days out. I said that if I could find someone else to come out sooner I might make an appointment with them as well, but if I did that, and they preferred, I would call them back immediately and cancel the appointment. She replied, and quot;We don't make tentative appointments!and quot; Sounds like they prefer to not have any competition! The only positive thing about the whole experience was that I was told by the receptionist that the visit would cost $75 regardless of whether I hired them or not (most others in town give free estimates), but after his estimate, the owner said he'd charge me nothing. The no charge was actually fair because he just ended up wasting both of our time. Interestingly, and to try and be as fair as possible, he does have pretty high ratings from other people. Perhaps I'm just a difficult customer...or maybe, I'm just a customer with a mind of my own? I suppose my recommendation would be to evaluate your own style and then decide whether this contractor is for you.

The house was built in 1927, Clean Sweep filled in the details. I feel comfortable knowing once the work is done, my fireplace will be safe to use.

We had just bought the house and noticed the chimney flue was rusted. We thought that we needed to replace the chimney flue or whatever was needed to be done to get the fireplace in working order. He came and looked at it told us that it would be a $6000 job. I thought that their price was ridiculous. They charged us $250 just for looking at it, which was not expected. They told us that the $250 would go towards whatever repairs we made when we objected. They said that they were the only game in town. I didn't have a good experience and that was very negative for me. They were a recommendation from somebody who we normally trust. I find it so weird that they are highly recommended by other people. It took them a few days to come out. I would try hard not to use them again in the future.

After he cleaned the chimney we discussed the condition of the chimney, the cap, and other areas that needed improvement that included bringing the system up to present day code. He gave me a written quote right on the spot for work that and quot;should beand quot; done
and answered every question. He didn't try to sell me or scare me into anything. A true professional. I will follow up on the quote he gave me.

Recently moved to a new home and despite the chimney looking new, I wanted to confirm that it was in proper working order before striking a fire.

A clean sweep called to reschedule the appointment due to possibly inclement weather rather than just not showing or postponing the work.

Eric arrived on-time.

As it turns out, A Clean Sweep is the one who refurbished the chimney within the last couple of years.

He said everything looked great and there was no need for a cleaning or further work. He made some recommendations on how to improve air flow in the chimney as it was an originally used coal.

Will definitely use again. He could have easily ran some brushes up and down and sent me a bill --- instead he said call him back in a year or two when it actually needs some work.

Everything went well even with the weather issues. Eric came by on the scheduled day exactly on time even though we had a Noreaster bringing sudden downpours every 10 minutes. He took a look at the fireplace and noted a few issues with the construction that I had already had concerns with. He rescheduled another apointment for a couple days later and did the cleaning and discussed my options as far as a new rain cap/spark arrestor, options for correction/sealing of a tin auxilliary duct that was part of the original construction (we suspected for future use) but shouldn't have been there. He was very knowledgeable about the proper way the fireplace and chimney should have been designed and how well this one should continue to function. He noted a few rusted through areas of the damper door and frame but didn't try to hard sell a repair. He gave me a few options for repairing it but estimated that it wasn't necessary immediately but if the time comes I could get a cap that has a damper in it as a more cost effective repair. He gave me a few cost estimates for different ways to handle it that sounded very reasonable. He even told me what I needed to do if I wanted to repair it myself. I felt he was honest with me and didn't try to push me into getting extra work performed. He simply told me the condition of all of the important parts and let me make my own decisions. He only pointed out a few things that could be problematic so I could keep an eye on them. It is afterall a 40 or more year old fireplace. I'm glad I picked A Clean Sweep to do the cleaning/inspection. Also, another note, he was very careful, clean and did not leave any mess for me to deal with. He put down a tarp before he started cleaning the fireplace and there was no debris left behind. He estimated it would need another cleaning in two years after asking about how often I use it , what and how much I burn in it and said they would give me a reminder at that time. He'll be the one I call for future cleanings and any repairs as long as I have a fireplace.

eric arrived promptly at scheduled appointment time. we had scheduled a fireplace cleaning as it had been approximately four years since last cleaning (performed by another contractor). after inspection, eric determined that we actually did not need a cleaning at all. we burn the store bought fire logs during the winter and clean ashes routinely. eric stated that we were doing the right thing and suggested that we call back in a few years for cleaning at that point in time. no charge for our appointment! what a refreshing experience - a contractor that did not scam us and perform an unnecessary service! definitely will use their services in the future!

He told me I didn't need a sweep. He was punctual. I think it's his wife that answers the phone. When you call in, because I am a female, she tells you what he looks like and what he will be driving so that you know who you are opening the door to.
