The actual installation of the internet service was just ok. I bought my own gateway modem and all Comcast will do is hardwire your computer with an Ethernet cable. Even though this gateway modem is marketed as compatible with Comcast the techs are not trained to set up WiFi, I was told. I was able to set up WiFi myself and I'm not a technician. The process to get there and the marketing scenarios, the pricing differences and the credit letter were horrendous.
Description of Work: A marketing nightmare. I called them at 888-840-5731 on 3 different days the week of April 29th. On Monday, I was told the price was $29.99 for 6 months and then $43.99 for the next 6 months. On Wednesday, I called again. This time I was told the price was $29.99 for the first 6 months and then $49.99 for the next 6 months. After 12 months it went to $69.99 he said. But then this guy didn't even know what a cable modem was and how it connected. On Thursday, was my third call. This time I was told $29.99 for the first 6 months and then $44.99 for the second 6 months. But, as my 36 + minute call continued I was told $29.99 for the first 12 months and then $51.95. I confirmed with the rep 3 times that the rate was $29.99 for 12 months. She said yes all 3 times. When I received my email confirmation, it only showed $29.99 for the first 6 months. The marketing specialist also confirmed I had an installation charge of $34.99. My email confirmation showed that amount for the installation charge but then they added $30 for a "home visit" which was never mentioned as I had requested to know all charges involved with my order. An installation date of 5/6/13 was set up. The 2 hour time frame for installation was met and the process was just ok. All they do is connect 2 cables together. I mean what do you want for $64 now days? However, Comcast's pricing tactics leaves me bewildered. It appears their tactic is to over charge the consumer and add on additional fees without advising them. It is quite obvious that their unknowledgeable marketing specialists have no idea how much a service costs, how long it lasts nor how much installation costs. P.S. Received a letter in the mail dated 2 May indicating their decision to deny Comcast products and services or require a deposit based on my credit report. Mind you my credit report shows no late payments in the last 20 years and I have had previous Comcast services. We have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous and I have amended my evaluation accordingly..
