Roy is an excellent salesman with fantastic communication and follow-up skills. He?s a large part of why we chose CAPPS Roofing. We also chose them because the use foam and screws. We received 4 quotes for this job, CAPPS came in the second highest. We liked that the bid included everything and there would be no surprises with extra plywood or what not. I can?t really say if they did a good job or not. I don?t know anything about roofing so it?s hard to really say. It's in the review but there was rarely anyone there who spoke English so I never really knew what they were doing on any given day. The roof does look good. I had a number of frustrations with this job: I was concerned about damage that could be accidentally caused during the job specifically to our AC and pool heater but also other things such as our trampoline, travertine tile on pool deck, etc. Roy assured me that they would put plywood everywhere before they started. This was not the case. The crew came and started ripping out tile. My husband asked about the plywood and the guy said (I kid you not) ?We?ll be careful.? About 10 minutes later, a large piece of concrete tile fell on our AC. They finally covered most things but we had to make it happen and we laid down our own tarp to cover a large part of the pool deck. On most days, there was nobody on the job who spoke English which was frustrating as I could not ask any questions about what was going on. I never met Blake Capps, the owner. He only called when he wanted to collect money. He never once showed up at the job site and never asked us how the job was going. In fact, I wasn?t even entirely sure if they were done when they were done. Nobody rang the door bell and said "We're all done!". CAPPS is somehow able to do their own inspections via affidavit and pictures. According to CAPPS, all the roofers do this. I?m not sure how this is legal as it makes no sense and seems like a gross conflict of interest to me. At the onset of this job, I received a mailing from the Palm Beach County Building Division regarding Florida?s Construction Lien Law. The notification detailed how homeowners can be liable for unpaid subcontractor and suppliers and gave specific things you can request in order to protect yourself. I contacted Blake and told him I?d like to receive the documents outlined in the notification which were a list of suppliers and subcontractors, release of liens from those suppliers and subcontractors, and an affidavit of unpaid contractors. The letter specifically said ?before you make any payment?.?. A week or so later, he sent Steve to collect a partial payment but I still had not received any of the documentation. Another week or so later, the job was finished and I received an invoice from their secretary but again, no documentation. Finally, I received a large part of the documents minus the list of all suppliers and contractors. Without the list, I cannot verify if I?ve received Release of Liens from all as I have no way of knowing who all the suppliers and subcontractors on the job are. I called Blake who kept me on the phone for 20 minutes and essentially made me feel guilty stating that nobody ever asks for these things, it?s just a formality that they send the letter out, and that I was getting nitty gritty, etc. He complained that it would take another 2-3 days to send it via registered or certified mail. I guess I was to blame because other people don?t do their due diligence when spending $22,000+. I deeply resented this entire conversation, as I had been very forthright all along in requesting these things for weeks. I felt like I was being brushed off every time I requested them. Later that day, my husband spoke to Roy who mentioned another subcontractor that laid the tile down which we were not aware of, that Blake had not mentioned and that we had no Release of Lien from. The whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth and as a result, I would not do business with this company again nor would I recommend them.

Thanks for the roof job. We think the job went quite well with no real glitches except some miscommunication about your requirements for payment which we regret. We are sorry we dropped a tile on your AC unit. We are glad that this did not cause damage to the unit. Re-roofing is major construction work. Occasionally small mishaps like this happen, but we work hard to rectify such situations. Please let us know if we can ever help you again.

Woody came and before looking at the roof told us that a 12 year old roof should still have plenty of life left but I relayed the issues the home inspection found and he climbed up and looked at it. To his surprise, I was right the roof was failing inspite of it's age. It had pitch flaws in several places cause water to pool and the roof to blister and disintegrate. He warned that it could fail at anytime and that he wouldn't recommend spending much on spot repairs as it needed total replacement. We asked him to send us estimates for both repair and replacement. We were already paying above appraisal for the house and I wanted to scrap the deal based on this info but my husband had already fallen in love with the house and it was genuinely perfect for his mom's needs so he proceeded with the purchase. Woody informed us that the Capps owner would be the one send us the estimate based on his notes. Unfortunately the owner took too long to send the estimate, we had to decide whether or not to back out of the contract before they got back to us. When we did get it the prices seemed shocking but are probably standard for what it costs to repair ($5000) or replace a roof ($20000) for all I know about it. I definitely felt that Woody REALLY knew his stuff and have no doubt they do superb work. We came away from the meeting with Woody so impressed that we would be willing to over pay to work with someone that good. He also spent a few extra minutes touring our future yard with us a taught us so much about the plants and trees in it. He is a super knowledgeable guy in general. Ultimately the seller paid for a repair job prior to the sale and we are hoping that the roof holds up a few more years.
Description of Work: A totally charming guy named Woody came and looked at the roof on a husband was purchasing for his mother. The roof had obvious issues that showed up on the home inspection and we were trying to get an idea what they would cost to fix so that we could renegotiate with the seller.

Repaired the caps and ridges. Did a great job. However they guaranteed that it would pass an inspection and it didn't. When called to resolve, they wanted to charge me another $2200. I felt he like they didn't do the right thing and correct. The follow up with a problem was marketedly different than with the initial service cal.. I got a few more estimates and they were much lower, around $800, compared to $2200. I will not call Capps again.

I needed a major roof repair after Wilma hit, and the company that did the repairs was bad news. The shockingly unprofessional owner and messy crew did a terrible job, and afterward when the leaks started I had basically no recourse. Many patch jobs later, I needed the entire roof replaced, and when I began looking at reviews for local companies, one thing stood out: the ONly happy endings to nightmare stories were prefaced by, "and I couldn't get any help until I posted a bad review on Angie's List." So I joined Angie's List. I contacted four or five companies and got estimates. Narrowed it down to two companies, but only one seemed actively interested in my business. Capps Roofing. Roy was the "front man," and he made sure to keep in touch, ask questions, offer advice and direction. Friendly and helpful, he was always available, but not too pushy. I'd pretty much decided to go with them...and the nightmare began. Because I've been on a cash-only basis for many years, my credit rating was rock bottom. Didn't realize that not going into debt is considered a bad thing. And because I'd ripped out some walls to begin renovations, I wasn't eligible for a refi. Thus began an eight month odyssey to get the money together (with the added stress of my insurance company informing me that if I did not have a new roof by 5th December my insurance would be cancelled)...and Roy stayed with me every step of the way (while none of the other companies ever checked back with me). After many twists, turns, and sleepless nights, I had the money for the roof of my dreams -- metal! Capps immediately put me on their schedule for the exact date requested, and even sent a runner (Kieran) to help me get the inspection doc notarized. He was another gem, and I hoped this was a trend for Capps. The docs were done on Friday, 30th October, and the crew came Monday, 2nd November. I can't say enough good things about the Capps crews, and my biggest regret is that I couldn't afford to give them something to eat (with ice-cold beers) at the end of the day. After it was all over a friend suggested popsicles would have been good and budget-friendly. DAMMIT! Why didn't I think of that. Because they were awesome. Neat, clean, friendly, well-organized...and very hard workers. People who toil under the Florida sun are a special breed, and I salute them. Steve was the job's overseer for Capps, and he was great, too. EVERYone from the owner (Blake) on down was faultless. The roof was done (completed in four days) and final inspection submitted in just one week. And I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face, since. ZOMG I HAVE A METAL ROOF!!! Rain is my favorite weather, but I'd come to fear it. After eight months of placing/emptying buckets, mopping (because six buckets could only catch so much. Thank God for terrazzo), and having pieces of ceiling fall to the floor, I could finally love rain again -- which was great, because the first rains fell the night the metal went up. Now my favorite thing to do is cross the street and look at my new roof. It's so beautiful I can't stand it! Others have noticed it, too. Almost every day I've seen cars stop for several minutes, and the drivers just stare at the roof... I paid a pretty penny for this roof. Second biggest "purchase" in my entire life, after my house/mortgage. It was worth it, in the end. WELL worth it. Insurance won't force me to get another for sixty years! There should be a nice reduction in my premium, too. And everyone tells me the roof will last "a lifetime." At this moment, I couldn't be happier that I went with Capps Roofing. Strange to think that if all goes well, I will never speak with them again. But I will never stop being thankful. And I'll be smiling every time I see or think about my (METAL!!!) roof, for years to come. MY ONLY CAUTION: I know that Capps is just trying to help people who have difficulty with financing, but the SELF loan program on their website is, as far as I'm concerned, a scam. The fees and terms are outrageous (and their status as a "non-profit" is a colossal joke); there are even government warnings that these loans are for "unsophisticated consumers," and they are likened to payday loans. This "program" takes advantage of the poor, and I weep for those who have no other option. BORROWERS BEWARE!!! But Capps Roofing is FANTASTIC! And unless this roof starts leaking I'll be recommending them for as long as they're in business.

We received a proposal a week after we initially requested they look at our roof; not much different from other roofers contacted. It was the least expensive of the three top Angie's List contractors I contacted; two reasons were it covered less repairs than others (gutters and ceiling repair that ended up costing me $1,000 through someone else) and the shingle was one grade lower (although same mph capability), but it was the best overall value at more than $5,000 less. Unlike other contractors, they required no deposit and much less paperwork to be signed. I emailed some questions and left some voice messages and they promptly answered them. When we returned the signed paperwork, they started the job the following Monday and finished on Wednesday as they said they would. This was all very convenient since no one was home the entire time the work was done. One issue did come up with some damage to the AC; part of the responsibility was not theirs. However, Blake Capps responded by covering the entire cost of repair, no if's, and's, or but's. This is a great business practice - go beyond and keep the customer happy. Overall, they were a pleasure to do business with. The roof looks great, passed inspection, and hopefully with the next heavy rain we'll know that it works perfectly.
Description of Work: Per Proposal We propose to furnish all material and perform all labor necessary to complete the following: Sloped Roof Pull required permit. Tear off existing shingles. Remove and dispose of gutters so facia boards can be adequately inspected and repaired. Install base sheet with nails and tin tags. Install galvanized valley flashing in transition between flat and sloped roofs. Install 3” x 3”, painted, galvanized drip edge. Install modified bitumen cap sheet to base sheet with hot asphalt.

When we bought our townhouse we got a quote from Capps Roofing. They came out when they said they would come out and provided us a quote within the next day. We had a delay with the architect and contractor and Capps worked with us on the whole project. Our contractor decided to get his own quotes and Capps came it at the best price. Once we were able to start the work on the roof, Capps was there and did the work as scheduled. They used quality products and were very professional in their work. The supplies were even stacked nicely on the roof. After the work was done, our contractor said he was going to use Capps on future jobs, they were the best he had seen in the Fort Pierce area. In all the roofs I have done in Florida, Capps was the best by far. You will not be disappointed.

Given what I feel was an outrageous sum for a minor job I decided to seek other bids and not use Capps.
Description of Work: I had a small leak appearing on a bathroom ceiling. I called Capps based upon the scores on Angie's List and a very pleasant fellow came out and looked over the problem. He thought the rubber boot around the vent pipe was wearing and that it should be replaced along with a few shingles. He estimated it would take two men a few hours at most to do the work. I was shocked to receive an email with the bid to correct the problem...$1800. I honestly thought they added an extra "0" by mistake since judging from what the estimator said it seemed like a simple job. The bid said the price would include replacing any rotted plywood if discovered. So basically, the bid reflected a higher cost that may not have even been necessary if the plywood was fine.

They repaired a leak in our roof and it seemed to be fine. I did not get another bid as I was in a hurry to get the leak fixed. About five months later we had another leak in an adjacent area. With roofs that are over 12 yrs. old, it is hard to say if areas overlap. This time I got two estimates and the cost was 1/2 from an alternate roofer. Therefore, I did not use them again. I would, however, call them if I needed a complete roofing job to get an estimate. For a patch, I would go to the other roofer and, indeed, have used the alternate roofer for a major roof repair and they did an excellent job at a reasonable price.

Honestly, I think it was way too expensive. The time and material did not equal the price in my opinion. The owner and 2 men were very nice (of course) but the owner never showed up to examine the roof after the work was completed that I know of.
Description of Work: Repaired an area approximately 4' x 4' with new felt and cedar shakes. Also inserted metal flashing in 1000 different locals on the roof where there were holes. Metal flashing was approx. 4" x 6" in size and the roofer said he inserted 1000 of these. It took the 2 men 5 hours to complete the job in 2 days time. You can see some of the metal flashing in between the tiles when you look at the roof from below.

Capps Roofing gave me a quote within a few days of my phone call to them, and responded to my questions. They called me on Friday to say they would begin Tuesday morning, By Tuesday afternoon, the old roof was gone and the underlayment was on. There was no debris in my yard. They had taken it all with them. That night it rained. All was well. The next day, the metal sheets arrived and were placed in my driveway. I wish it had been positioned a little differently to allow me to park my car in my drive, but the supplies were not there more than a few days. As soon as the County inspectors gave approval of the first phase, they were back to complete the roof. It took 2 days to put the metal on. It rained every afternoon but my home was dry. It took a week from start to finish. I suspect it would have been done sooner but they had to get approval from the County for each phase and await the County's inspector. After the roof was completed, the skies opened up and we had 3 days of heavy rains and roads flooding, real toad stranglers. No leaks though. And the roof looks very nice. Several of my neighbors have come over to admire it, Thanks Capps Roofing.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with how the roof turned out. However, there was one thing that I was not 100% happy with; they did not clean the job site thoroughly when they job was finished. I picked up HUNDREDS of nails, screws, rivets, and shards of sheet metal from the driveway, grass and bushes around the house. I spent hours cleaning up so none of our kids, dogs, or guests stepped on one. One even got in my car's tire but fortunately I was able to have it patched and it didn't require a replacement. Also, there were a couple things I would have liked to know before we started: 1) If you're replacing a roof with metal, long tracks of metal may show where the underlying plywood has warped or isn't perfectly flat (especially if replacing a heavy tile roof). Certain areas of the roof look a bit wavy or not square (which it is, but the old roof tiles covered it up). However, most people probably won't notice it - but its all about expectations. 2) The company that put on the metal roof was not Capps Roofing. They subcontracted it out to another company. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but it would have been good to know going in to set the expectation. A Capps supervisor reviewed the work but did not overseeing the installation the entire time. We didn't go with the lowest quote, so in essence we were paying "extra" for Capps quality and service. Overall, I'm very pleased and the new roof looks very nice. Hopefully it will last for many, many maintenance free years!

Professional and responsive. Someone came out same day to look at the roof. I knew exactly what work needed to be done and the cost. Recommend them highly.

Multiple homes in our neighborhood had significant hail damage to their roofs during a bad storm this spring. We've been approached twice by contractors asking to look at our roof. One said the damage to our roof was bad enough to file an insurance claim and have our roof replaced. After looking into both contractors, I realized they were both from out of town and hadn't worked in the area before. I filed a claim with our insurance company but wanted a local company to be here when the insurance adjuster did his site visit. I called Capps Roofing because of their positive reviews on Angie's List and because they were a local contractor. Mark, one of the owners, came and inspected the roof along with the insurance adjuster. I learned that Capps Roofing had put on the previous roof, 15 years ago, before we purchased the house. Mark stayed for 40 minutes, working through the inspection with the adjuster and looked thoroughly at the roof. Mark and the adjuster both agreed that the damage was not significant enough to warrant a complete roof replacement. While we won't be getting a new roof and Capps Roofing didn't get a job out of the inspection, I feel much better knowing that my roof is in good condition. Having just the opinion of an insurance adjuster wouldn't have reassured me. Talking to Mark and the adjuster also confirmed my suspicion that the companies pushing to replace my roof were chasing insurance claims. Those companies will be gone after the claims dry up. Capps roofing has been in business since the mid 90s and aren't leaving town. I'd definitely recommend Capps Roofing as a company that you should at least request a bid from for your next roofing work. They will be at the top of my list when my roof does eventually need replaced.
Description of Work: They conducted an inspection of our roof for hail damage.
