"I appreciate this feedback and feel the need to respond. Prior to the sale, I was asked by their agent to show his buyer the house on his behalf and I did as a favor to him. I recall answering their questions on that day and any I did not know, I found out and provided to their Realtor. A few weeks after closing, an issue came up with the garage disposal. I had previously provided all the information regarding the disposal prior to the closing and shared with their agent what was done. In addition, the buyer did a walk through after the sellers vacated the property and prior to closing to check to make sure all repairs were done to their satisfaction. At closing, they said nothing about being dissatisfied with any of the repairs and we closed. A few weeks after closing, I received an email from the buyer about the disposal not working. I worked with their Realtor and my seller to resolve the issue. (It is inappropriate for me to correspond directly to a colleague's client which I explained to them and asked if they could address their concerns through their Realtor. They did seem offended by this request but I do understand the buying public is not aware of some of our protocols.) During the emails back and forth, I did verbatim share what my seller said in terms of the disposal repair so as to not misrepresent anything that was or was not done. I often do this so that there are no misunderstandings or "whisper down the lane" effects. I was then told by their agent that the issue had been resolved and that the disposal was under warranty. Several days later, I receive a bill for a new disposal. I do feel that because I did not offer to buy the buyers a new disposal, that they are upset. I do not believe it's my responsibility to purchase them a disposal. The seller had the disposal looked at by a licensed professional and used it normally until closing. I disclosed all actions to their agent prior to closing with regard to the disposal. Nothing was said at closing that the disposal did not work during the walk-through and my sellers used it normally until closing. It's unfortunate and frustrating for them I am sure but I do feel they are taking their anger out inappropriately. With regard to sharing with their Realtor at closing another buyer's offer on the house they were just purchasing, they are very much incorrect in their assumptions and their understanding of how Realtors get paid. I would have not gotten a commission on such a sale. It was not my buyer but another agent's buyer. I was sharing the information with them in the event that they would be interested in making a sale. They and their Realtor would have gained financially in that sale; I had nothing to gain at all. I was only sharing this information of an offer to help them. Their assertion is incorrect."
