A mechanic showed up and began looking at my unit. He told me that I had a freon leak and needed around 10 lbs of freon. I told the tech if I spent that much on freon, I wouldn't be able to afford any other potential repairs. He charged the unit with about 5 lbs of freon instead according the the bill. The unit still was not working, and he explained that I needed a new expansion valve. After installing the expansion valve, the unit began cooling again, and the tech cleaned up and left.
They worked with me on the bill, and the total was $574 at that point.
A few days later, the unit stopped cooling and was completely frozen over again. I called Suntech, and they promptly sent the same mechanic to take another look. He flushed the system but told me I was going to need a new compressor at around $1,400. He was able to get the unit cooling again but insisted there was nothing more I could do besides buying the new compressor.
This next bill was $88.
Several days later, the unit again was not working. I decided to call another company who a friend referred for a second opinion. The other company came out and did a thorough inspection. They said the issue was actually to do with the evaporator coils as they were deteriorated and rusted over. They explained that I did not need a new compressor, that the expansion valve that was replaced was not in good condition, and that my unit didn't even hold 10 lbs of freon (as opposed to what the tech told me).
Needless to say, I hired the other company, they put in new evaporator coils, replaced the expansion valve work, and I've had a flawless A/C unit running for almost two months now. All this for a fraction of the cost I was quoted by Suntech.
I'm not sure what to make of the whole situation but I was not satisfied with the work Suntech performed of the information they gave me. At the same time, no one is perfect, so maybe all this was just a miscalculation on their end.
clogged. That process took almost an hour. Then he tuned up the A/C and
completed an acid wash on the condenser. He said that the condenser was
just dirty from the elements. The tune up took about an hour also. It
was a very hot day with some cloud cover
making it humid. The technician spent the entire time on the roof with no break.
I think he did an outstanding job.
The person came on time and did the chech up of the unit on time as schedulled. He told me it was necesarry to change some parts to give to the ac some more life.
The job didn´t work. I knew it was an old unit but he told me it would still work and did the tune up and put a new parts in it which also charged me. At the end I had to buy a new unit anyway because it didn´t work. I would prefered he would told me that they couldn´t do anything and not charge me the 150 that make me throw this money to the trash. Anyway I had to buy a new unit one month later.
I called another A/C company White Eagle who added freon then retested. Jose discovered the leak and fixed the problem. I now can cool down to 72%.
