125.00 just for them to do a service call, mind you, I'm just down the street from the store in Miramar. Another 450. 00 for a new computerized program pannel. He left the old one for me to see the corrosion but I wasn't expecting to have to pay that much. Over all he did the job quickly and it's been working fine for the past month.
Description of Work: I needed a service call for my pool heater. Indicator light on and pool not heating.

UPDATE: ONCE SITTING DOWN WITH THE OWNER, MITCHELL, HE NOW UNDERSTOOD WHERE WE WERE COMING FROM AND AGREED TO GIVE US A SUBSTANTIAL CREDIT FOR OUR TROUBLES. HE SHOWED US CONSIDERATION AS HE LISTENED TO OUR ISSUES INVOLVING THE POOL WORK DONE. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE CREDIT THAT HELPED "OFFSET THE COST OF REPAIRING THE ISSUES WE WERE LEFT WITH. WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE EFFORT ON HIS PART TO MAKE US WHOLE AGAIN. THAT IS WHY I AM CHANGING OUR RATING! RATING IS FOR MITCHELL NOT FOR THE SUBCONTRACTORS THAT WERE HIRED BY MITCH! Hired to redo our pool. They removed air pockets and old tile. Had to come back 3 times to remove air pockets that were left by workers. Replaced tile with glass tile, which had to be redone several times. Replaced skimmer, Replaced light, and took a long time and they are a mess in the fact that ....well see below! End result: GLASS TILE IS NOT STRAIT, BUT WAVEY IN PLACES. AROUND SKIMMER LOOKS TACKY. STONE SCAPE WAS APPLIED IN WRONG COLOR AND HAD TO BE CHIPPED DOWN TO THE PLACE WHERE THEY COULD REAPPLY IT WHICH TOOK SURFACE INCHES AWAY FROM OUR POOL. BUT IT IS A NICE COLOR. ONCE FILLED WITH WATER: Pool leaked excessively, for over a month, and still leaking despite many patches to light, patching around skimmer. They stated after the job was done that the drain was cemented in by previous owners, which was not noted when they drained the pool. They ended up cutting our drain line to the pump and sealing it, which they did not have permission to do. STILL THE POOL LEAKED. Finally they said we cannot find a leak and its not leaking, but we were loosing water. We had to hire a company to come out and diagnose the issues with the newly remodeled pool. 1) SKIMMER INSTALLED INCORRECTLY and we are told will always leak 2) POOL LIGHT WAS STILL LEAKING despite all the patching that they had done on a brand new light. 3) THERE IS A CRACK IN THE PIPE TO THE LEFT OF THE SKIMMER. We have to redo the light completely to make sure it never leaks again. There are numerous patches which we are told is only temporary patching anyway..(ON A NEW LIGHT). The skimmer has to be redone properly, by removing the new one and replacing it in the correct manner. The drain has to have the cement put in it removed and the line needs to be repaired to the pump and the pump line has to be redone because it was cut. All to the tune of $4660 to have someone else fix the issues with the new equipment installed, the pipe that was cut and the crack in the drain pipe close to the skimmer and cement removed. It has not been a positive experience and it has been stressful. We have used Pinch a Penny for our pool needs and have had no problems with them thus far until the pool remodel. We feel exhausted and sad. And we feel they do not accept any responsibility for the work that they messed up. IN RESPONSE TO PINCH A PENNY.....WE FEEL THERE ARE MANY MANY UNTRUTHS IN YOUR STATEMENTS AND REPLYS. WHILE YOU REFINISHED OUR POOL, YOU NEVER ACTUALLY FINISHED IT...IT CONTINUED TO LEAK.... IT WAS A GRULING PROCESS AND ONE THAT WAS FILLED WITH NUMEROUS REDOS, MISTAKES, AND DELAYS ON YOUR PART THAT CAUSED OUR POOL REFINISH TO BE PROLONGED, JUST AS LISTED ABOVE IN OUR REVIEW. AS FOR THE "GOING ON VACATION" THE ONLY PERSON SURPRISED WAS MITCH THE OWNER, WHO WE DIDNT KNOW UNTIL AFTER THE PROJECT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FINISHED AND IT LEAKED! THE POOL WAS LEAKING THRU THE NIGHT AND LEVEL WAS SO LOW, WE HAD TO TURN THE SKIMMER OFF BECAUSE IT WENT BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE SKIMMER. AND WE DID PAY IN EXCESS OF $4,660 TO REPAIR YOUR MESS UPS. THAT IS REPLACING THE SKIMMER THAT YOU SO CONVIENTLY WANT TO BLAME ON THE INDIVIDUAL THAT YOU HAD INSTALL THE SKIMMER, WHO YOU CONTINUOUSLY CALLED "YOUR GUY"; WE WERE GIVEN NO CHOICE IN WHO TO HIRE AND JEFF STATED HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING. WE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN SOMETHING WAS WRONG WHEN YOU INSISTED THAT WE PAY HIM SEPARATE WITH A CHECK. THIS WE HAVE IN A TEXT MESSAGE....ALL OF WHICH WE HAVE KEPT ALONG WITH ANY AND ALL COMMUNICATIONS, VIDEOS, PICTURES, ETC. "YOUR GUY" WHO DID THE SKIMMER ALSO WAS THE GUY YOU SENT NUMEROUS TIMES TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THE LEAK IN THE POOL WHICH YOU AND JEFF STATED WERE SEVERAL TIMES WAS THE LIGHT, SEVERL TIMES THE SKIMMER, THEN IN THE DRAIN WAS LEAKING (WHICH WAS IMPOSSIBLE) AND THEN SUDDENLY YOU STATED THAT THE DRAIN WAS OBVIOUSLY CEMENTED IN BY PREVIOUS OWNERS, ONLY AFTER WE CAME BACK FROM OUR VACATION! WE SPECIFICALLY ASK THAT YOU DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF OUR PIPES AND YOU CUT IT ANYWAY. ALL OF WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE! AND DURING THE ENTIRE TIME THAT WE WERE ON OUR VACATION WHICH WAS PLANNED A YEAR IN ADVACE, YOU WERE AT OUR HOME NUMEROUS TIMES, ASSESSING, DIAGNOSING, AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY OUR POOL WAS STILL LEAKING, AND CALLING, AND TEXTING US, THE ENTIRE TIME. UNTIL THE DAY WE ARRIVED, YOUR ''SKIMMER 'GUY''' WAS STILL IN OUR POOL TRYING TO FIX THE LEAKS. ....LEAKS WHICH JEFF HAD JUST TEXT US THE SATURDAY THREE DAYS BEFORE WE ARRIVED HOME....HE STATED WAS FIXED. HE EVEN CALLED AND LEFT A MESSAGE IT WAS FIXED. I ALSO HAVE A MESSAGE TO HIM STATING THAT AT NO TIME WAS HE TO CUT ANY PIPES TO OUR PUMP. BUT HE DID IT ANYWAY. AND THE POOL STILL WAS LEAKING WHEN WE ARRIVED HOME. THEN YOU TOLD US YOU COULD'NT FIND A LEAK, AND IT JUST COULDN'T BE LEAKING. THE SKIMMER GUY, WAS YOUR LEAK EXPERT, AND YOUR """CONTRACTOR JEFF""" WAS YOUR ON SITE """CONTRACTOR""" (THAT IS WHAT WE WERE LEAD TO BELIEVE ) YET NUMEROUS MISTAKES WERE MADE ON HIS WATCH. YOU HAVE MADE IT A POINT TO BLAME THE CUSTOMER, WHICH IS COMPLETELY WRONG. AND YOU REFUSE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY IN OUR OPINION FOR ANY ISSUES THAT YOU CAUSED TO OUR POOL. AEB THE "DEAL WITH THE SKIMMER GUY"" OF WHICH YOU STATE THAT YOUR NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR, THE ONE YOU SAY IS "YOUR GUY"....BUT YOU WERE OK WITH USING HIM TO DIAGNOSE OUR POOL LEAKS!!! YOU HAVE NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES AND WEEKS TO FINISH AND FIX THE LEAKS IN THE POOL AND YOU COULD NOT DO SO. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HIRE ANOTHER COMPANY TO COME IN AND DIAGNOSE THE LEAKS AND FIX THEM. WHICH YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO. YOUR LETTER IS RIDICULOUS. WE DIDNT NEED YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THE POOL CHEMICALS AND COULD HAVE EASILY HAD SOMEONE ELSE DO SO. YOU WERE THERE BECAUSE YOU HAD TO BE TO CONTINUE WORKING ON OUR POOL AND TRY TO FIND THE LEAK, THEREFORE WE FEEL YOU HAD NOT FINISHED OUR JOB!!! ALL OF WHICH WE HAVE WRITTEN TEXT, AND PHONE MESSAGES UP UNTIL THE DAY WE RETURNED, AS WELL AS PICTURES/VIDEO DATED OF THE WORKING BEING DONE ON EACH DAY. WE FEEL, IF THE POOL HAD BEEN REPAIRED CORRECTLY IN THE FIRST PLACE, THINGS INSTALLED CORRECTLY, FINISHED, AND NOT LEAKING, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO BE AT OUR HOME. MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU WERE AT OUR POOL THE SAME DAY WE ARRIVED, STILL TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE POOL LEAK. HOW CAN THAT BE IF YOU HAD STATED IT WAS FIXED A FEW DAYS BEFORE WE ARRIVED HOME... THE "SKIMMER GUY"" WAS THERE WITH HIS SONAR THE DAY WE ARRIVED HOME. WE FEEL THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABSOLUTELY FAIR IN REQUESTING THAT OUR COST BE SUBTRACTED FROM YOUR BALANCE. WE PAID IN EXCESS OF $4660. THAT WAS TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE ISSUES AND LEAKS. WE APPROACHED YOU VIA ANGIES LIST TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE FIRST. WE WERE PROACTIVE IN GETTING THE POOL DIAGNOSED AND FIXED, AND YOU STATED TO US THAT YOU WOULD SUBTRACT OUR COST FOR THE DIAGNOSIS BEFORE WE EVEN HAD IT THE COMPANY COME OUT AND GIVE A DIAGNOSIS AND SECOND OPINION. THAT YOU DID NOT DO. INSTEAD YOU CHOOSE TO ADD $315.12 TO THE BALANCE AND CHARGE US FOR YOUR TIME YOU SPENT YOU SAY PUTTING CHEMICALS IN OUR POOL, WHEN IN FACT YOU WERE WORKING ON THE POOL THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE GONE. WE MADE YOU FULLY AWARE OF THE COST THAT WE WOULD INCUR TO FIX THE POOL AND WE HAD IT FIXED. WE ONLY ASK THAT YOU BE FAIR AND SUBTRACT THE COST THAT WE HAD TO INCUR TO FIX THE MESS AND REPAIR THE LEAKS IN THE POOL. AGAIN, YOU HIRED THE SKIMMER PERSON, WE DIDN'T. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR HIM, HE IS YOUR "SKIMMER GUY" AS WELL AS YOUR LEAK DETECTOR!!!, ETC. YOU ALSO HIRED THE GUYS THAT HAD TO REDO THE GLASS TILE NUMEROUS TIMES AND ITS STILL NOT STRAIT!!! YOU SUBCONTRACTED, WE DIDN'T. SO WE THINK THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABSOLUTELY FAIR WITH OUR OFFER. YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK FROM THE SKIMMER GUY, THAT ISNT OUR RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE A TEXT WHERE JEFF IS ASKING US TO PAY HIM DIRECTLY WITH A CHECK. I HAD NO IDEA WHY HE WANTED US TO DO THAT. WE WERE INSTRUCTED BY YOUR """CONTRACTOR""" JEFF TO DO SO. AS FAR AS WE ARE CONCERNED, YOU CAN SUBTRACT THE $4660 FROM OUR BALANCE. THE PRICE WE HAD TO PAY TO FIX THE POOL THAT COST US WELL OVER $15,000. IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE OTHER COMPANY, WE WOULD HAVE A POOL THAT DOESNT WORK PROPERLY. I HAVENT EVEN SKIMMED THE SURFACE OF ISSUES. IT HAS BEEN STRESSFUL, A COMPLETE HARDSHIP, AND A RENO FILLED WITH EMOTIONAL DESTRESS THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. YOU SAY YOU FINISHED THE POOL, YOU NEVER FINISHED THE POOL BECAUSE IT WAS A LEAKING POOL, ONE WHICH YOU COULD NOT FIX. SO WE HAD TO HIRE SOMEONE TO COME IN AND FIX IT. SO WE RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT YOU SUBTRACT THE ABOVE AMOUNT FROM YOUR BALANCE THAT WE HAD TO PAY FOR YOUR WORKMANSHIP AND FOR REPAIRS THAT WE HAD TO PAY FOR TO HAVE YOUR WORK FIXED SO OUR POOL NO LONGER LEAKS. THAT WOULD BE THE TRUE RESPECTFUL THING TO DO. TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, YOU NEVER FINISHED THE JOB AND SOMEONE ELSE HAD TO DO IT FOR YOU. ONLY AFTER THEY FIXED EVERYTHING AND REPLACED THE MESS DONE BY THE PEOPLE THAT YOU SUBCONTRACTED, DID THE JOB FINALLY GET FINISHED AND WE HAVE A POOL THAT DOES NOT LEAK!!! YOU DID NOT FINISH THE JOB.

Response from Pinch A Penny (Sales,Service,Repair)
We received a copy of the letter you sent to our corporate office explaining the problems that you have been experiencing, While we are sure that the company you used to determine the location of the leak was very reputable, we also feel that they most likely did not have any prior knowledge of the status of your pool prior to our company refinishing it. We have reviewed your letter and feel that certain matters need to be clarified. Our company was hired to replace your light, resurface the pool, replace the tile line, as well as the trim tile along the steps. And, as you are aware, when we learned of the mistake of the subcontractor regarding an incorrect color, we remedied the matter immediately and the correct finish was applied. Additionally, we also discovered issues that we were not made aware of until after the job was completed. Your pool was finished and refilled, as well as balanced according to the manufacturer’s specifications. On your system there is a 3-way Jandy valve that controls suction from your skimmer as well as the main drain. This single valve can be turned in one direction to close the skimmer and turned back to close the main drain. The way we originally found the valve was that the skimmer was open and the main drain was closed. For optimal circulation and flow, the valve was positioned to allow suction from the main drain as well as the skimmer. Coincidently, your leak was observed the day after we set the valves into this new position. Not realizing the correlation between the pool leaking and the drain valve being open, we made numerous trips to your pool to find out the reason why a leak was occurring. We suspected the drain was leaking so we dove into the pool to investigate. It was then that we found that the main drain had been sealed off. Normally main drains that have been cemented over are due to a leaking drain line that a homeowner does not want to repair. This practice is not recommended; however, it can be an option of the homeowner does not want to go to the expense of fixing the problem. Since you are not the original owners of the pool and the 3-way Jandy valve was positioned to close the main drain, you like us, would not have known about the issue with your main drain line leaking. Being that the main drain was sealed off, we continued to search for an answer as to why the water loss was so extreme. After investigating the hydraulics within your pool’s plumbing configuration, shutting the drain valve eliminated the extreme water loss. This is because with the drain valve open, water was flowing freely from the pool back into the drain line and out into the ground. After finally solving this issue, we explained the situation to you and your husband and reiterated that someone other than our crew sealed the drain at the bottom of the pool and left the valve in a closed position. When we switch the valve to run from the skimmer and the main drain, the pool leaked. Cutting and capping the drain line above ground was done to prevent anyone from opening the valve and causing the water to drain. Whoever sealed off the drain, should have also capped the drain line above ground. Once again, this did not have anything to do with us plastering the pool and was outside the scope of what our company was hired to do. Additionally, in respect to the light, the only thing that was done was the old light was removed and a new light fixture was put in. If a leak occurs from a new light being installed, it can be caused by wear and aging on the old equipment after it has been disturbed. Questionable hairline cracks were plugged to stop any suspected leaking. As for the skimmer issue, we do not replace skimmers so we referred you to Chuck from On Call Leak Detection. If you have any issues with the skimmer, you need to take that up with Chuck as you contracted him. It was a surprise to us when you informed us that you were going out of town right after the pool renovation was complete. As you were instructed, you were supposed to monitor the chemistry of the pool, and brush it daily for the first month to achieve the optimal curing process. Since we did not want you to come home to a pool that had not cured properly because of your negligence and to avoid any confrontation or problems with your newly plastered pool, we took it upon ourselves to check the chemistry and brush the pool for you. For two weeks we did your job and did not charge you for this service while you were on holiday. This was not part of the contract but was done as a good faith gesture on our part. The job we were contracted to do has been completed for over two months. We feel that at each juncture, it was our desire to please you and to get to the root of the problem. However, you now wish to hold our company accountable for matters that existed prior to our work on the project. We feel we acted in total good faith and went beyond the scope of what our company was contacted to do. While it is more than regrettable that you had to deal with issues that you did not create, our company did not create these issues either. We would respectfully request final payment in the amount of $4812.50, be made as we feel all work contracted for was completed.

If you are thinking about resurfacing your pool, this is the company to buy from! My pool surface was old and needed an upgrade. I got several quotes. The companies that quoted were the smallest to the largest. Most made me feel very uncomfortable. Was there a company I could trust and at a price I could live with? Pinch a Penny on Broward Blvd was my answer. Their price was reasonable and the result was A++! Call Mitch and Jeff today and relax. They did a great job and my pool never looked better. Stop looking around and hire these professionals today. Enjoy!
