On 5/21/12 the FHA crew arrived and began their work. I was having the three windows in the front of the house and the bathroom window replaced, as well as, the back door. I had removed the blinds and screens from the windows to make them more accessible. I was watching the workers at the back door because it seemed that they were having some difficulties with getting the new door frame to fit. Before they put the door jamb on I noticed a 1 X 4 inch space which they cut away at the bottom of the door frame. I told them that would be unacceptable and they said they would fill it before the door jamb went on. I went to check on the windows when I noticed that they had removed a bedroom window which still had the blinds and screen, instead of the bathroom window. I told them and they had the window put back and a screen was made to fit. By the end of the day the windows and door were in place and I said that I wanted the County Inspector to close the Permit on 5/29/12. A few days later I noticed that the back door was becoming increasingly more difficult to close and wouldn't stay shut without the dead bolt being locked. I called FHA and both door locks (dead bolt and handle) had to be recut as the door had apparantly settled and the locks were no longer aligned. This was corrected before the Inspector came. I waited around most of the 29th for the Inspector and finally called FHA and was told that the Inspectors did not have my house on their schedule. I agreed to have it the next day. The Inspector signed off on the Permit with the understanding that some small details would be corrected. One of the bolts for a window was missing, there weren't enough caps to cover all the bolts on the windows, some caulking had to be redone and the screw and nail holes in the door should be caulked. The Inspector also noticed that the manufacturer's tag was missing from the new door. The windows were taken care of. On 6/12/12 my home owner's Insurance WindStorm Mitigation Report was completed. The Inspector also noted that there was no manufacturer's label on the door to indicate that it was an Impact Door and the NOA paperwork provided by FHA was for a fiberglass door not a steel impact door which I purchased. I called Jeff Allen when the Inspector left. He said he contacted the FHA office and they would take care of it. Today is 6/21/12 and I have not heard anything from FHA. The reason that I went through all this was to reduce my home owner's insurance and I am not getting credit for an Impact door. I am very disappointed.
Response from Florida Home Improvement Associates

"Member, As always, we appreciate your business and we strive to do our very best for our customers, we apologize for any inconvenience in the inspection process and with the mitigation inspection. We contacted the door manufacturer and requested a label for your door, they have a local distributor that will hand deliver a label for your door, someone from our office will contact you today 6/22/2012 to make arrangements for the label to be installed on the door and to correct any other issues you may have outstanding. We will provide at our cost, another mitigation inspection with our inspector or we can reimburse you to have your original inspector come back to complete the mitigation report. Thank you again for your business."

All went very well from start to finish. I would recommend that if you have a big job such as ours you plan on leaving the house during the day since there is alot going on. FHA was recommended to us by an old friend and he was certainly right about their quality of work. We found it hard to even get an estimate from other companies whereas FHA called us back in evey case immediately.

They came out promptly. They gave me false information about their product. Someone else came out a week later from the same company and verified that the information was untrue.

Made an appointment and a salesman arrived on-time calling in advance to confirm the appointment and our availability. Also of significance was that he came in the evening when we were both available after work. Salesman was very knowledgeable, informative, brought samples, answered all questions, and offered various options for what we wanted along with leaving brochures etc on their products. Estimate was very fair and comparable with other estimates, but exceeded in both quality and warranty. The company followed up after visit asking if we had any other concerns or questions. Note: only one other company called back out of four.

We conducted a lot of research as this was a major investment as we wanted not only a good price, but a quality product that would both last and provide true protection against the storms we get here in South Florida and would increase our home resale value. We took our time and this company was the only one who followed up over this long period. Some may call that pushy, but we call it a company that wants our business. When we decided to make the purchase the company sent our their representative who again sat down and addressed all our concerns and again brought samples highlighting their product as well as details of where their product was made and how it is constructed to exceed current code. He provided a detailed written estimate and contract. After completion we paid the exact cost agreed upon although they went above and beyond what they were required to do.

After signing contract, the measurer arrived on-time as scheduled and was both professional and informative.

The windows and doors were completed ahead of schedule and the company called to set-up a convenient time to install. Installers arrived on-time, were extremely professional, and completed the job with our interests in mind meaning they set-up barriers to minimize dust, they really worked and did not goof-off as others have done on projects we have had contracted for, and offered to stay late to complete the job so as not to inconvenience us for a third day for a couple of hours of work. When completed, they really cleaned up after themselves, not like any other contractor we've had. When the County Inspector arrived for the inspection, one of the installers arrived first at the scheduled time unlike the Inspector who was late. Inspection went fine with the Inspector pointing out to me that the product and installation met/exceeded all required code and that the installers really exceeded required installation requirements.

Have several friends who also had storm windows and doors installed in the past year and have heard nothing but horror stories on their experiences with their companies. We were also blessed that we did not have to spend days cleaning-up after the installation as they did or have to hire someone to make repairs on damages or omissions their installers made. Our installation was complete plus!

Again, many kudos to the installers " Tony's Crew" who were a group of guys who really knew what they were doing in every aspect and went above and beyond in various aspects of the installation and done way more than what most (any) installer would or should do!

We recently have hired several contractors to do things from a new roof to new counter tops in the kitchen and in one case we refused to pay and had to go to arbitration with the other we continually have to perform follow-up repairs.

This experience exceeded all expectations and we wish they also did bathroom remodels which is our next project. A++

Big red light when an estimate is not in writing or detailed in any way. We have a list from our permit office. #1 warning sign that you may not be getting a reliable contractor, "If they don't give you a full written and detailed estimate.". We asked for a written quote and he said they do not have a quote form. Then we asked if he would just write down the price for us. He did write, 'All doors and windows $26,000.00 and signed and dated.' Didn't put how many windows, what type, manufacture or model of windows or doors. He did mention that if we wanted to still get the lifetime warranty, we would have to sign up right away. There were only a limited amount of lifetime warranties left for the type of windows we want. We told him we are not going to make our decision today. We thanked him for coming out and he politely went on his way. Guess what? You got it. We received the call from their office and they said that our area could create a lot of business for them. If we could make an appointment for the vice president to come out, we would receive a substantial discount. Just like all the other reviews I read. We threw away the name and number. Too many gimmicks and red flags. We have quotes $12,000 to $15,000. They quoted $26,000. We have 1 entry door, 10 windows and 1 sliding door with two fixed panels. We are getting great service with Alpha Windows and Doors. The estimate from them was fully detailed with window measurements, model numbers, quantities, ratings, and all details for scope of work. I'll write a review for them soon.

It went terrible! They finished what they said they were going to do, however, it was a very poor and unacceptable job. I will have to spend approximately $4800.00 to fix what they have done in order to do the job right. I told them I wasn't happy with their repairs and they told me they were not experts in repairs. I called them because they put in the original cabinets and thought that they should be the ones to do the repairs.
Response from Florida Home Improvement Associates

"we attempted to help repair the water damaged cabinets on your kitchen per your insurance instructions, we quoted you the estimate based on your insurance findings, unfortunately, upon further inspection we discovered that your insurance missed a significant amount of more damage to your kitchen. We will be more than glad to do the repair your water damaged kitchen provided the insurance is able to cover all the damage that there is. We will like very much the opportunity to restore your kitchen to the same beautiful condition as when we completed the job back in October of last year, also Mr Evirs, please keep in mind that all of our kitchen cabinets and materials are made to order. If you have any further questions please contact our Kitchens Dept by dialing 954-792-4415 ext. 211"

I was not satisfied with their estimate. The gentleman that came out was someone I did not want to deal with. He was very abrupt and wouldn't talk to me, and then he left. He didn't look at my windows and he didn't measure anything. I would not deal with them again.

Met with their sales rep on March 8th. He quoted me a price that was about 30% higher than the company I eventually chose but the salesman was professional and I believe the products he was selling were good quality. My problem with this firm started the next day when I got a call from a woman at the company who said she wasn't in sales but just wanted to know how the sales call went. I told her her man was very professional but that I hadn't made up my mind yet. She then explained that my condo complex of 240 units was a god opportunity for them and they would like to offer me a deep discount if I would order from them and inform others in my community of their excellent services. I would not be allowed to relay the price I paid. I said I was willing to discuss this proposal and she set up an appointment for me the next day. Someone even called to confirm the appointment later that day. I am fairly certain she said it was going to be the president of the company. In any case no one ever showed up nor called to cancel and this was about 4 weeks ago. I'm a senior citizen and have been touched by home improvement scams in the past and this certainly has the same smell. Offer a better price for showing the job to your neighbors...I think this was even in the movie "The Tin Man". I note other members of Angie's have had good experiences, so mine experience might not be typical. I think they high-balled me for what ever reason during the initial sales call and were looking for a way to be competitive. I find it interesting that the original salesman never called to follow up.

.Started with a visit from the regional sales manager Russell izenman and a salesman named Mike. They explained all the different choices available in the South Florida market for hurricane impact windows. I mean they showed me everything, 5 different window manufactors from aluminum impact thru the vinyl insulated impact. At first I was resistant to them showing me so many choices, but common sense prevailed when i thought back to all the other window companys that gave me an estimate and only showed me a picture or just one sample of THEIR window which of course those others companys said was the best. Well folks here's the difference FHA had all their products and many more that the manufactors made exclusively for FHA, so Russell and Mike kept saying the entire time that all windows are theirs and the choice is mine to make. :). What was interesting was that I thought impact glass had only one choice also but once again I was shown the many different levels of glass and chose which best suited my budget and needs. They explained the installation to a tee and then here comes the best part, the price an payment. Price was lower then I expected and the payment was zero down financing which i don't start paying for 90days. Every other window company wanted 50% down then more money when they arrived. FHA said pay us when you're happy. I love this company and would give them A++++ and also would refer them to my family and friends without hesitation.

We were very dissatisfied with their service. We felt like there was really strong armed high pressure to go with them. Their pricing was extremely high. The secretary called about financing and told me that my husband had a zero credit score and I told her she was mistaken and she got really ugly with me as did the salesman. I would never consider using them for any type of services.

Great experience. They measured when they said they wouldpulled all the permitted, even dealt with the HOA which is a pain. Scott showed up yesterday for the final day of the install. Truth be told never thought I would see him again but he said he would be back and he did. Company exceeded our expectations. Thanks again FHA.

It took so long for them to do this job, from the time I hired them, until the time they finished, it was nearly a year. They have a sales person, who came to me through my neighbor, but she didn't hire them. She paid half the price that I paid, and she got beautiful windows and doors and everything, for a lot less money. They sent me the salesman, like a used car salesman, and then they used coercion. They have somebody continually call the salesman and he says that he told the customer that the deal was just for today, and if they don't accept it today, it goes away. She must have called him four times during his visit, and he had to say the same thing. I told him that I couldn't make the decision immediately, and that I had to speak to my financial advisor and discuss it with him. But they coerced me, they put all this pressure on me. Then when they actually did it, first of all, they made a big mess on a daily basis, and they didn't clean it up. My house was a mess, and I was on my hands and knees, cleaning up the mess on the floor, every day. I had some cleaning people come to help me, and they were supposed to pay them, but they never did. The workmanship was awful, they had to keep coming back. You should see what my house looks like now, two years later. I still don't have things for my windows, and they ruined the painting in the house, so I had to have my whole house repainted. They spackled everything, and that spackle is all peeled and flowing down, and it's a mess. I had fairly new window treatments, and they don't fit anymore. They tried to tell me that I had to put them back up and extend them away from the windows, which is ridiculous, they tried to get out of that. They never told me that once they did the work, the window treatments wouldn't fit. They said that the crew that did the shabby work would be very happy to do the whole thing over again, but I was not going through that again. I am talking about every window and every door with the exception of the front door that was replaced, and let me tell you, I lived through hell during that time. In talking with the owner's son in law, he made a concession and gave me $10,000 off. But even with that, I had to repaint my house, the whole house because they can't take only one area, and I have to have somebody to come in and sand the walls. I'm still getting leakage of water. I had some people come and according to them, I'm getting water inside because they did not caulk it properly. The company did say that they would come back and take care of it for a lifetime and if they have to replace anything, they would replace it free of charge for a lifetime. I called the owner and told him that in retrospect, I didn't think $10,000 was a very good decision on my part. I told him that first of all, they overcharged me for the windows and doors, and secondly, they did a horrible job, and that I was unable to paint the house and get window treatments with $10,000. If anybody asked me about this company, I would tell them all bad things about them. I thought that their quality of work and professionalism were very poor. I have to call them back to re-caulk the windows because I have water coming in. He also said that he would give me the $10,000 if I would go on facebook, and give him a positive critique.

They were excellent. They did a really good job. They were prompt, professional and very efficient. Their price was right because I got an estimate from three different companies. The sales person explained the various options that were available and taught me a lot about the industry. When they actually came out to do the work, they made as little mess as possible. They were very concerned about keeping the whole place clean so they just did not storm the whole house. The finishes they did were very fine and was quality work.

From beginning to the end everything went smooth and easy. The installers Jeff and Jack arrived this morning at 9AM and removed the old windows and replaced them with the ECO friendly energy saving Windows. What a GREAT JOB from beginning to end. They cleaned up after themselves and left my Wife and I smiling from the fantastic Professional Job that they did.
The Windows weren't cheap but they are well worth the $$$ and the customer service was outstanding in every way.
I highly recommend Florida Home Improvement Associates.
