I was purchasing a short sale and called Bay Home Inspections after reading other good reviews on AL before the bank approved. Michael talked me out of getting the inspection at that time and said I should wait for wait for the bank just in case something went wrong. In this economy it is hard to turn down business but I really respected his honesty and ethics. Once the bank approved our offer we only had a short time to close and Michael performed our inspection and turned out his report and in a very timely fashion. He arrived an hour before scheduled and had the exterior inspection done before I got there. His report was very detail, easy to read, and contained digital pictures to illustrate any defects. He also included suggestions on some of the items. I also enjoy that he keeps his records digitally and that I can pull my report off line when ever I request it. I used Angie's list to get the name of three different home inspection companies, all of which I called or submitted an online form to on a Saturday evening. I was antsy to get the inspection done, but didn't expect to hear from anyone until Monday, seeing as I contacted them all while they were closed. To my surprise, Michael Bender from Bay Home Inspections called me the very next morning on his way to church! I had barely submitted the form more than 12 hours before he contacted me, and yet he was actually apologizing for not getting to me sooner, saying his business is very customer-oriented.That's for sure! His prices seemed better than the ones I had heard, plus he said the wind mitigation would only be $55 ( as opposed to $100), since he'd already be on-site. I appreciated his honesty when talking to me about prices, and it was very easy to make an appointment as well. For the most part, they do 2 inspections/day , one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so you can just pick one of those time frames, and they'll go do their thing. Since the inspection takes several hours, Michael called me when they were approaching the end so that I could could head to the house for him to explain all of his findings. Michael's wife works with him (as he explained, she's tiny, so she get's to inspect all of the small spaces like attics, crawl spaces,etc. lucky gal!), and the two of them were professional, friendly and laid-back. They went over almost every detail with us, from the outside to the inside and everything in between, and what's better is that Michael can tell you exactly how to fix any issues as he goes. To tell you the truth, I learned quite a lot! Michael promised to have the report finished by Thursday at the latest (the inspection was done on Tuesday), but I had it in my inbox the very next day. <--Instead of a hard copy, he writes up each report as its own website, basically meaning it has its own URL address. That eliminates an extra day of waiting for the mail to come, and it can be accessed anytime after that. I forgot how long he said they keep the report up, but it almost doesn't matter because you can print it out, and if you need to access it years down the road, just give him a call and he'll make the link active again. The inspection report was complete with helpful icons for determining the severity and priority of each issue as well as pictures (complete with arrows!) of the main concerns. The wind mitigation report was separate and was mailed as a hard copy, and it had pictures with it also. Michael won't even process your payment/deposit your check until he has delivered all services promised AND double checked with you to make sure everything was up to your expectations. All-in-all, I would highly recommend Michael Bender and Bay Home Inspections to anyone and will definitely use them again, if the situation comes up. After dealing with the wide variety of people you're forced to deal with throughout the home-buying process, Michael and his wife were a very refreshing change! Thorough, honest, considerate, prompt, and just plain good at what they do. **Tips** - Definitely take a notebook with you when you go to meet them because you'll want to take note of the issues so that you can be thinking about them before you receive your actual report. Also, like I mentioned before, if you listen up & ask questions, Michael can tell you exactly how to fix almost anything & that information is invaluable! - As a first time homebuyer, until about a month ago I had no idea what a wind mitigation survey was or if it was worth it, but I would HIGHLY recommend getting one!! Michael can probably tell you if he thinks it would be worth it in your specific case, but in mine, I knew the roof was post-2002 (it's either post-2002 or post-2001 roofs that have the extra wind safety features) which I kept hearing could save me a lot on my insurance. In the end, I am saving over $500/year on my insurance just because of the newer roof!! DEFINITELY worth it.

I have bought and sold several homes over the years and have had an inspection with all but builder (new construction) purchases. Michael spent over four hours on site and produced the most thorough inspection report I have ever seen. I would highly recommend his services to anyone considering a home purchase. A+++++++++

It went superb! I was very thrilled w/ Mr. Bender's home inspection service and performance. He is very professional, conscientious, and anal (if I can please use that word!). These are all quallities that I want to see when I'm making a big investment, my home.
