After the loan officer locked in the interest rate for me, he vanished and it is extremely difficult to get hold of anybody. As a first time home buyer, I have a lot of questions and would like my lender to be responsive and let me know what the next steps of the process are. When dealing with them, I was surprised how little they know about the process and how it works - they are supposed to be experts! They got my application mixed up with somebody else's and refused to fix it; in their words, " it is not very important". Yes it is to me because they listed me as " foreign national" while I am a citizen, and I cannot even apply for homestead exemption if I am foreign national. I provided the documents they needed from us within one hour every time; however, they answer phone calls and emails only after I called them 10 times. Two weeks before closing, they requested me to" fix all the items that need repairs stated on home inspection report" in order to issue the loan! The house was not even under my name yet! Am I supposed to break into a house I don't own yet and have myself arrested?? The loan officer then blamed me for sending in the home inspection report : I did exactly what THEY asked me to do -send the home inspection report before the loan can be issued! They require you to escrow your home owner insurance, property tax, and I asked if there is an option of not having these escrowed, I got a very vague one word answer from the loan officer, which I did not understand.
We almost lost our dream home because of their incompetence and unprofessionalism. We finally dumped them and went with another lender - it worked like a breeze and they were able toclose for us within three weeks. It has been a nightmare dealing with Consumer Direct; I know they are a little cheaper, however, buying a home is one of he most important decision in your life, you want to find a lender that is responsive and knowledgeable: shop around and don't be fooled! I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy! This company should not even be in business, in my opinion.
Consumer Direct had one of the best rates we could find, and was one of the highest rated mortgage companies (I must have researched 30 different companies...). The closing process was smooth and FAST! The seller wanted to bump our closing date up by two weeks, and Consumer Direct had no problem accommodating! We closed VERY early and without a hitch. The only thing that could have gone smoother is that the appraiser they hired was a little on the slow side and we had to request an addendum to our contract to extend the appraisal contingency. That wasn't their fault, but it was a little stressful... in fairness, if you're not buying a foreclosure with very short contingency periods, this probably wouldn't be a concern for you.
I would highly recommend this company and although I hope we never have to move again, if we do, we will probably get our next mortgage here as well. A+
"I have reviewed and researched your complaint. The loan officer assigned to your inquiry tried 8 times to make contact with you to get the information needed to answer your questions. Unfortunately the questions posed required more details that you were willing to offer. If you would like to offer the information needed to give you an accurate estimate, we would be more than willing to give that in writing."
Worked with another appraiser to provide a detailed dispute and was told that they would not accept this information. Ended up working with LenderFi.com and on target for a smooth closing with them.
"We are required by law to follow the Home Valuation Code of Conduct (HVCC) act of 2009. The customer was offered the opportunity to dispute the value with the appraisal management company. We are not allowed to have contact with the appraiser or influence the value of the property in anyway."
