The workers covered all the furniture with plastic tarps and even put up a dust waa made with the same plastic. They used a shop vac to suck away any dust generated from drilling into the concrete. They cleaned everything so that we had no mess left behind.
While Storm Tight Windows are more expensive than many others, they big beefy windows that will stand up to any hurricane South Florida can throw at them. They are really beautiful windows that enhance the look of the house.
We had given a $2,000 deposit.
I spoke with the office manager at the Boynton Beach office (Bryan Bradley) on the 3rd day of our cancellation window period. He's the same person that authorized product discounts and terms 2 days prior. He confirmed that he would honor our cancellation. We were on vacation so I was not able to fax my cancellation but he assured me that speaking to him would due and to "enjoy your vacation and fax the cancellation as soon as we returned".
I faxed the cancellation upon my return about a week later.
Weeks turned into months and no refund. I even spoke with the owner (Mr.Lee Brown) about 3 months later. He said to send him proof of the financial hardships and he would refund our $2,000. I sent him a package consisting of everything that he asked for. Again, weeks turned into months and not one reply!
I finally called again and got a hold of a receptionist that said she would look into what was going on. She sent me an email that the company had decided to keep my $2,000 refund.
I have copies of everything that I sent them including phone records and read receipt emails.
No work was ever done. The windows were not even started on because they never even had measurements taken.
Those $2,000 mean a lot to my family and really hurt our pockets. I feel that the company did not honor their word. Please be careful with this company.
Any help in getting my refund returned would be greatly greatly appreciated!
"Federal Law requires we give our clients 3 days to cancel. We do this n our contract and on a separate form which we did. The form explains how to cancel and the time frame in which it must be done. The member canceled way out of the recession period. We are entitled to 15% of the agreement which is 2625.00, we began processing all the paperwork, secured financing for the homeowner and paid our representative. We incurred costs on this project even though no windows were installed. The deposit was for 2000.00 and we are entitled to 2,625.00. We would have considered canceling the agreement had the financial hardship been proven. But the consumer states that the reason they didn’t send in the cancellation on time was due to the fact they were on vacation. Just because windows were not made, doesn’t mean we don’t have costs associated with the project. We have policys in place to protect our clients and we must follow them. We are the largest Impact window provider in the state of Florida and the forms on how to cancel the agreement were left with the client and were clear."
Per a difficult HOA, attempts for a resolution between me, my HOA and STW continue to be long and strained with the HOA's issues on the grid pattern, length of the screens and frames.
Since 11/11/13, there have been 15 communication efforts to STW (email, phone messages and direct discussions) in my attempts to seek STW assistance and offer a resolution to my HOA. There were 2 visits from STW Installation Mgr. (Brad), 3 conversations with STW President (Lee) and 5 communications with my HOA. As recommended by Brad at STW, I offered a resolution to 2 of the 3 issues to the HOA, and the HOA has not accepted the offer. The relationship is strained between the 3 parties: STW feels they did their job by installing the windows per HOA approval (STW will not agree to remove the windows as requested by my HOA); HOA is not in agreement to the look of the windows and feel the ARB approval conditions have not been met, and I feel that David (STW rep who visited my home) was not forthright with me on what to expect from the windows nor do I feel he paid attention to the HOA requirements when recommending the STW product. David did not have a sample product to show me, just a photo of the window, no details of the screens or frames. As I said earlier, I trusted David's expertise. Also, the master bedroom window is defective, one of the side windows does not open (since the installation).
As of 1/28/14, my conversation with STW President (Lee) was strained and unpleasant but the take away was that STW will send me a resolution proposal to submit to my HOA. I have not yet paid STW the balance due payment (approx. $3600).
Additionally, STW's installers did some damage to my windows sills and wood flooring, and Lee agreed to repair the sills and floor. I am still hopeful there will be a mutually agreeable resolution between the 3 parties for the windows.
While I am pleased with the window product themselves, and have no real complaint with the installer, I feel that Storm Tight was not upfront and honest about having subcontractors doing all the work, and all they really cared about was getting their money. They showed up at my house twice to collect the balance due, before the windows were even completely installed, and before the inspector came to inspect the work. Living in South Florida, inspection is key when you are install Hurricane impact windows, so your Homeowners insurance is valid and for resale of your home.
The Windows did pass inspection and they are beautiful, but honestly I can not in good faith recommend this company to anybody after the untruthful ways they do business.
INSTALLATION - a nightmare. We had experience with another home where we installed Impact Windows and Doors. This was nothing like that in this home. The installation was a nightmare. No supervision, no formality in the process; Installers would show up when they pleased. No supervision in sight ; poor organization in the installation. Installers showed up without their working materials. Used all 5 bathroom in our home and left them filthy. Floor were not covered when installing and they ended up scratched everywhere. Left dirt and aluminum pieces all over the home, terrace, garden, everywhere - inside and out. They did not comply with installation timeline (one month late). Owners attitude was horrendous and threatening. Did not get our written warranty. We paid 90% of job. We did retained 10% till we get all documents and repairs reimbursements they do not want to pay. Co sent their lawyers to intimidate.
At the end of May our installation began. I have lived in South Florida for over 20 years and have never had such a nice bunch of men work on my home. Dan and his crew were not only courteous but clean and they showed me each window as they completed it. They showed they really cared about what they were doing and wanted me to be happy. I have to say I was very impressed by their work. I expected the installation process to be long and drawn out but they made it very painless.
After the installation was complete we quickly noticed the difference in the temperature in our home. We just received our first electric bill and it is much lower than this month last year. I am very pleased and to boot the extra bonus in this purchase that I did not expect was over the July 4th holiday normally I can hear my neighbor's kids shooting fire works until all hours of the night and with my new windows I could barely hear them!!!
6/26/12 Fast Forward to today: the installers came back with the 3 windows that we had to re-order however 1 was still opening the wrong way. At that point i just wanted it done so the company and i came to an agreement. All windows were installed. When the installers left they did not leave anything with me (ie: pictures, paperwork, permit). Three weeks (3) went by and no one called regarding scheduling of inspection. I called the company. I spoke to Christine who said she just filled this position and will get back to me as soon as she could regarding the status of our account. She called me back to ask me if i had a permit or pictures because she didn't see them in my file. After 22 emails back and forth inspection was scheduled for today. I asked if a representative from Storm tight would be at the inspection and was advised that it was not necessary. Inspector came, saw then left. INSPECTION FAILED....Inspector requested a rep to be there next time. Now we have to reschedule another inspection, take more time off of work. This is very frustrating to me because I am trying to give the company the benefit of the doubt however they don't seem to really care. I have had 3 people in the neighborhood ask me about the company and unfortunately all i can say is the product is good but StormTight NOT SO MUCH. They cashed their checks fast enough so why should they help now (that's exactly how i feel). I expected more from a company that used a sales pitch of "times are tough and we want to keep our guys working because they have families).....
August 16th, 2011......no door, no communication.
August 17th 2011 I finally received a message from Chris Campbell that my door is in & he wants to install it tomorrow! He did leave me his cell phone number, so I left a message for him that the 18th/19th (work days) was not good for me, but Sat. or Sunday the 20th & 21st would be.
August 18th I try to get a confirmation for Saturday. I am glad that I kept calling them, because they were not going to call me to confirm that Sunday would be the day! I will update this after Sundays install!
August 21st the door was finally installed & my installation complete. Installation was excellent. Again Mauricio & his crew did a fantastic job.
The person handling & scheduling County Inspections, Ana, wanted to send me an email with pictures so I could print them. I asked her to print them & mail them to me. I had to request this again a week later because of non receipt. Again, she wanted to email to me so I could print, & again, I asked her to print. This time they were sent & received.
The County needed these pictures to complete their inspection. County inspection happened on October 4th, and passed with flying colors.
To sum up, a 3 day installation that began on June 30, 2011 was completed on August 21st, no fault of the installers. Very high quality & efficient work for the installation crew. The windows, sliders & door are GREAT!
The communication with Storm Tight Windows is extremely poor. If one has the patients to tolerate that, then you will be pleased. I feel that if you are spending your hard earned dollars on a product, you deserve prompt & honest answers to your questions.
