This is a follow-up review from 2-10-2017. Keith called back and offered to oil the fence himself in order to ensure that I left as a satisfied customer. Of course I took up on the offer. After 3 hours the same day, he called saying it was complete -- a very quick response. My mother confirmed that is was quite obvious the fence was oiled by oil present on the gate handle and by the smell. I appreciate the willingness from Dave's Fence to get things right and to make sure I became a satisfied customer. I bumped up the Overall rating to a B and Professionalism to an A and the price to a B.

I previously posted a negative review for Dave's Fence, and I'm happy to be able to replace that review with this one. I had a vinyl fence installed and within the first year it began to fade terribly due to sun damage. I contacted the warranty company and made a claim. The warranty company gave me the run around for over 6 months. Out of frustration, I turned to the internet and social media to post reviews regarding the situation. Dave's Fence contacted me after seeing my reviews. They told me they thought the matter had been taken care of by the warranty company, and apologized for assuming so and not following up with me again. I am happy to say that Dave's Fence took matters into their own hands and replaced the faded fencing. Since this seemed to be a manufacturer issue, it is something that the warranty company really should have done. Dave's Fence stepped up though and made it right. Of course, I am hoping the fading problem was an isolated manufacturer issue and won't happen again - Time will surely tell! My husband has a small family-owned business that has been around for almost 30 years. As a small business owner we know that every customer experience matters. Dave's Fence obviously feels the same way. I would definitely recommend them for your fencing needs.

The primary issue I had with Dave's Fence was the communication and uncertainty as to whether or not the fence has been sealed with linseed oil after it's installation. After the fence was installed , I asked if it was linseed oiled. The head installer Elvis said only the posts were oiled and that they do not seal the fence boards. Thinking that the only difference was that the posts were partially in the ground, I asked if the linseed was applied on the parts below ground. He said no because only the top part was exposed to the weather. This didn't make sense since the rest of the fence was above ground and should be sealed. But unfortunately, I let it go with that explanation. Overall, the fence looked good -- straight and even although they just had to follow the lines of the old fence. The gate opened and latched smoothly but there was no handle to close the gate. I had to get a grip a part of the frame to pull it closed. Not acceptable for my 83 year old mother with arthritis. But was good that Elvis said a handle could be added at a later time. I noticed all the tags on the fence boards were still on. I asked Elvis to help me pull them off. No big deal. A couple of days before the gate handle was to be installed, I happened to notice six boards were not nailed down at the bottom. Again, no big deal. When a guy came to put on the handle, my mother asked about sealing. He said it should have been done. So Keith from Dave's Fence came out to inspect it and informed me it was done because he sprayed water on it and it beaded. I told him it wasn't done because Elvis said only the posts were done and the fencing was completely dry. Of course, he contacted Elvis and he said it was done. It became a he-said-I-said situation. Keith explained the oil gets absorbed right away and the posts are only damp because they are pressure treated and aren't stored covered. He said Elvis' English may not have been good but it was more than adequate because I never had to repeat myself and he had full explanations of saying why the fence was not oiled and about adding the gate handle. Whether or not the fence repels water at the moment is not the point. The point is the linseed oiling wasn't done because Elvis said it wasn't done. Keith explained how the oil gets absorbed immediately and that he makes sure his guys always spray and that he sees no reason why they would skip it. Maybe to save time and to avoid work. I didn't see any evidence of any spraying -- cans, sprayer, etc. I did check up on their progress from time to time as well. Keith asked if I was watching them the entire time from the time they arrived to the time they finished. Of course not. It's unpleasant on both sides to watch over the shoulders of workers for 5+ hours straight. It still seems like they are a good company and are polite folks overall, but it's these little things that add up that makes and cause dissatisfaction. It starts to whittle away at my confidence with this company. I chose Dave's Fence because of the positive reviews on Angie's List so I was willing to pay the extra amount not to bother with petty loose ends. Here are other tidbits you may want to know beforehand: -- Keith said the tags tacked on the boards are left for future identification in case they need replacing. A good point but do I need all of the tags left on? It looks like pieces of litter along the bottom of the fence. -- The gate fixtures package (hinges, latches, etc.) does not come with a gate handle. But that is no reason to not include one. Ask for one. -- Keith mentioned they get their wood fencing from Lowe's. Good to know for comparison shopping. -- No concrete is used to secure the posts into the ground. Elvis said it will hold up better without concrete (because of the depth??). Don't know if this is common practice or not. My old fence posts used concrete and held up 25+ years, even after the hurricane. The neighbor used concrete on their fence. -- The concrete on the old posts are only removed if they remain attached to the post. Otherwise, the old concrete stays. No big deal for me but may be for you. -- When requesting the 5% Angie's List discount (cost was over $3,000), I was first offered $50 taken off until I informed the estimator that it wasn't 5% and should be ~$150. An easy mental error but be sure to calculate the correct discount amount.

Well took a little time mostly due to the Hurricane but I called Dave's fence I actually after I called I got a text from Ryan ask me to take some pictures of the damage to the fence which I did and he gave me a rough idea of the cost. Decided to hire them so they would get me scheduled and had sent a estimator out to check It out.. So on Oct 18 Mike Sellers came out with another guy looked at it and I decided to have the whole back row of fence removed and put a new Board on Board 6" pine pressure treated wood. I was satisfied with the estimate. Also repaired a gate that was hard to open. So on Nov 1st Dave' fence called and scheduled me for Nov 11. They called me back and told me they would have to reschedule me for Nov 14. So on Monday Nov 14 the crew showed up around noon time about six guys I talked with the guy seemed to be in charge and ask him to move the fence in several inches more due to some shrubs on the property behind me was all over my fence and a tree was already doing some damage to my fence. They done a great job very fast tore down the old wood fence hauled it off replace all the 4x4 post they were very careful to keep everything nice and straight and level because they were using the level all the way down the fence 80 " all together. But they took their time and everyone stayed busy. Upon completion I looked the fence over the top of the fence was even and straight I was very pleased with it. The only problem was the guy talked to me and they have a water sealant they spray the entire fence with but said he couldn't do it his equipment he used for it was broken. He told me they have people working in my area and the office would call me and schedule some one would come over and spray it but no call for the rest of the week. Called them the following week gave all my information to them said they would call be back but didn't so I called again on Thanksgiving week and again the took all my information but again no call back. So the next day sent a e mail to Mike Sellers he called me within the hour talked with him about it was very nice with me he gave me the number to call but told him I wasn't going to call them again because they won't return the call. He told me he would forward my e mail to his manager so about 45 minutes later the office called me this time asked me the type of fence and the size.so they scheduled me for Dec. 21stbut on Dec 21st said they would have to reschedule me for the first or second week in January. So finally scheduled for January 5,then I get a call from one of the guys I guess he had com out to my house around December 29th and had sprayed it but I wasn't home. I wish he would have left some kind of notice on my door he had been there he described my yard etc which I thought was kind of funny I wasn't doubting his word but happy it was completed hopefully they can improve on the communications skills a little but I still would use them and recommend them I think they do great work .

While there are a number of good reviews for this company, unfortunately my experience matched the really bad ones. Despite scheduling the work at their convenience, they managed to turn a 6-7 hour job into a 3 week ordeal with three different crews. The usual: crews late or no-show, office clueless and unresponsive, mediocre work. The only reasons this grade is not worse are: 1) the sales guy Michael - he was the only one I could contact for help, and 2) eventually the job was finished - like pulling teeth but the fence is upright, the correct amount of posts are in. However it is mediocre at best - I had to go buy a picket that they missed, nail in a few more, tapcon a 2x4 to attach a corner post to the fence, the gate hardware looks like it was installed by a 10 year old. Really disappointing. Can't recommend Dave's Fence. I'll use a handyman next time...

Unfortunately, It did not go anywhere. Daves fence has put on our last 2 fences in previous homes and we could not get them to call us back to book after we were given our estimate. We left 3 VMs and even sent an email. They did a great job for us the last 2 times but they have now lost a customer and a referral base. I don't feel that we should have practically begged for someone to call us back as we needed a fence ASAP for our 2 dogs (especially for the price that we were about to pay).

Timely response for estimate and initial installation. One of the gates was installed improperly. Because of a communication problem with the staff, it took multiple calls and repeated explanation of problems before another crew was sent out. Final repair was done satisfactorily and we are pleased with finished product. Unsure regarding rehiring again.

The best experience I've ever had with a company. They did what the said they would do and more. Showed up on time, and finished the 192 foot of fencing before sundown. I was amazed at the methodical manner in which this crew, yes crew, executed the job. Every piece measured, spaced and checked with a level. The crew leader even worked around a tree that I wanted to remain in the yard. Every single crew member was professional, polite and hard working. You'd be hard pressed to find a rogue nail anywhere on our fence, it's simply beautiful. Our previous fence was taken down by hurricane Matthew and this company called me back within 24 hours, came out a week later to do an estimate and within a month my fence was done, not one single hiccup and I know they are slammed right now. I really can't say enough great things. Don't waste your time shopping companies, they align price wise and are the best.

Once the owner got involved things moved fast he came out and was very upset at the job the crew had done. He looked everything over explained what he was going to do to fix everything. Jason apologized for all the issues and let us know that things on his end had been fixed, he gave us a date that they would be out to replace the fence and he was true to his word. The fence is now done and it looks amazing. It was a long haul to get this project as it should be and no one should have to go through the amount to aggravation. But it is good to know that this company is now back on it's feet and management it back in control. I will be using them again. finding a honest contractor in my area is very hard.

The company was quick to come out and give a free estimate and quick to come back to actual set up a contract. There was a 6 week wait for install, but that is understandable after a big storm. They took care of permits for us. We love the khaki colored fence. The crew to install showed up on time and were very efficient and professional. You can't even tell they were in my garden (which I expected to get trampled during the process) and they left the area in perfect condition. We would hire them again or recommend them to other people without hesitation.

The workers were very professional.

They appeared disorganized at first. They were not prepared with gas/oil for a chain saw that was needed and I let them have what I had. I consistently asked for the fence to be level across the top and when the project was "done", I had to have them correct several obvious places that were running up and down. During the afternoon, I looked out at one point and one of the workers was napping on the trailer. Then he put on his sandals, as if he was done for the day around 3:30. The crew did not leave until 5:30 and were not happy with me because I kept finding places where they did not attach the fence to the posts. I just don't think they wanted to work that day.....hmmmmmmm.

Very well. Hurricane Matthew messed with the schedule a bit, but the job was great. They build on-site so no panels were brought in and it took 2 days to complete.

Great experience with Dave's fence. The office staff and installation crew all did a fantastic job. Very happy that we used Dave's fence and would highly recommend to others. Compliments to Darlene in the office and Jessie along with his crew of installers.

Excellent! They reminded me of the continued service that they provide for the fences that they install, (no cost for adjustments of their installed gates) and of maintenance that I still need to have done. Pressure washing and sealing. Ill have them do that done soon.

Technicians were skilled and well organized. Competitive pricing on what appears to be high-quality fencing and installation that is holding up after almost 2 years. Dave's was very responsive when I suddenly could not latch the wood fence after almost 1 year of installation. They came by asap and readjusted with no charge.

When I originally reached out to Dave's for an estimate, I was impressed with the responsiveness of the office staff and the estimator, who came out within a day or two and gave me an estimate of $3,058 to replace my old wood fence with PVC. I called the estimator back about a week later, and told him that I wanted to move forward with the project, and that my neighbors also wanted to replace their gate at the same time. The estimator told me to have my neighbor call the office to let them know, which they did on 8/25. I provided the survey the estimator needed, and submitted approval to my HOA. On 8/29, I called the estimator back and told him again I was ready to move forward. On 8/30, I emailed him with the same information. Having still not heard anything, I texted him on 9/01. Finally, on 9/02 I called the office, and was told "someone - probably the estimator" would call me back that day. I did not receive a call. Later, I found that someone had sent an email saying the estimator could not get by to initiate the contract until 9/13 (3 weeks after I initially told the estimator I wanted to move ahead!) As a final attempt to contact someone to help, I called the office on 9/08 and asked to speak to the manager. The person answering the phone told me that he was not available. When I asked for the manager's name, I was told that "I'm not allowed to give you his name, because then everyone who called would ask for him." While I am always skeptical of people who leave reviews when the work has not been completed, my interaction with this company has really been frustrating. Worst customer service experience I have ever had with an Angie's List provider. Very disappointing.

They did a great job.

We didn't use them simply because it was such an ordeal to even get someone out for an estimate. They were pretty good about responding back to the initial message that j needed an estimate and stated someone would call me back next day. The gentleman that called me back asked about our needs and materials and informed me a member is scheduling would reach out to me in the next couple days. When scheduling called me she offered me one time, which didn't work with my schedule so she said she'd call back. She called back several hours later with another time 2 weeks away. At this point we decided to just skip the company all together since it seemed like they wouldn't have time for us anytime soon. Everyone I spoke with seemed nice enough but the scheduling department needs some serious work.

Called them a few months ago for a quote for a new fence. Said they would meet my request for an appointment date. When they called back offered a different date. Made plans to take off work and the day before they canceled to move it again. The office manager called back when I said I was going to mention this on Angie's list; felt that was the only reason they cared.

Estimator Nick, knowledgeable and friendly, no pressure. Team of four men, lead by Scott did a great job. They really know their business and work unbelievably hard in very hot and humid conditions. Couldn't be happier with our new fence and gates. Nice folks in office to work with. Would recommend to others!
