July 3, I checked Angie's list for someone to cut down trees for me. SB Tree service seems just the ticket. I called that very day and the next morning, an estimator came to my house 8 in the morning. He gave me an excellent estimate...much less than I would have expected.
July 5, 8 on the dot, a whole tree crew showed up and began work. I think there were about 15 workers, but they moved so fast and worked so well together, it was hard to get an exact count.
So much equipment and everyone had their job and knew exactly what to do. I was extremely impressed.
It took about 3 hours for all the work to be done and the clean up was fantastic.
I will certainly recommend this company to anyone who needs tree work done.

Our first encounter with SB about a year ago was when they were working next door and they asked if we needed their services. We said yes, and they did some minor trimming for a very reasonable price. They were very professional and asked us each time they cut something to make sure it was what we wanted cut, and exactly how much. We were impressed and decided to call them back when we needed more work done. That was then.
This time, we called SB and a person came over and we discussed exactly what we wanted done, and agreed on a price. The next day they showed up and the first we knew about it was when we heard a chainsaw and discovered a limb missing on a tree we never mentioned to them. This definitely was not the same crew as before.
The back yard went OK, only they did not come prepared to re-cable the trees, and I found myself running back and forth supplying them tools and directions, so much so that I was unable to watch everything that was going on. That's when the big mistake happened. There were two large limbs on one tree. We wanted one limb cut completely off, and one limb lightly trimmed at its end. I later learned that my wife had independently given them the same directions. During our absence, they got it backwards. The limb we wanted to stay was completely gone, and the limb we wanted gone was still there. Needless to say, we were disappointed at best. Regardless, we paid in full the price we agreed to.
Also, the re-cabling was partially done. I called SB back the next day after re-evaluating the situation and asked the re-cabling be completed, and I would pay for it. It simply has to get done or the trees will die. I hope the work can be completed without incident.

Everyone we dealt with was courteous, responsive, and professional. Bad weather necessitated a change of service date, which was handled smoothly and to our convenience. The work met expectations and then some, and all the debris was cleaned up and hauled away. Overall, great work!

They arrived on time the day of the work and worked quickly removing the trees with no damage to the house. I have to say their work was excellent and the employees pleasant and hard working.
My only complaint is that about a week after the trees were removed, we got a note from the city we were in violation and no permits were gotten. We called and they were quick to say they would take care of it. Called back to be sure. Assured us everything would be alright. A month or so went by and got another call from the city stating the permit was never picked up and if it was not in 24 hours we would be fined. They did finally take care of it.

They arrived in force on time with about 8 guys and at least 4 vehicles. It was an impressive display of manpower. They first tackled the 2 dead trees in back, 30 to 40-foot pines that would wipe out a bedroom if they fell west. The first went down quickly and they cleaned it up. The second was trickier because they had to thread the needle between a live holly tree next to it, and a stand of tall pines at the back of the property line. They hit it perfectly, missing the holly tree and landing it about 4 feet from the other trees. They ground the stumps and everything looks great.
Meanwhile, Todd pointed out that an oak tree off the back corner of the patio was hanging very close to the shingles and should be cut back some to protect the roof. I agreed, and we added it to the work plan. I directed one of the guys who removed branch by branch until it was just right.
Trimming some branches from a tall palm tree off the front corner of the house was on the original work plan, and they did that. We ended up trimming more off than I'd originally planned, but they pruned at my direction, with me there okaying each frond cutting.
The third tree they trimmed was a 20-year old oak in the front year that had never been trimmed, and was beautiful and healthy but just too low. I was nervous about trimming this because it was full, healthy, and had a great canopy, but its lower branches blocked the view of the house. The owner Sean and I had an extensive discussion about this tree, with Angelo there listening. I wanted the canopy raised, but did not want the diameter of the canopy reduced. Basically, I wanted to solve the "too low" problem but not go beyond that. They recommended that we do that and also clean the tree's interior of dead branches, etc., and I agreed. Sean assigned Angelo to the task. Angelo did a great job, and I could tell that he and Sean took pride in the tree and really wanted to do their best work on it. At one point while Angelo was in the tree near the front, another worker came up the rear of the tree and started trimming branches. I saw him nip about 2 feet off the end of a branch and was trying to process why he'd cut it, when I saw him reach up with his chainsaw and cut 4 to 5 feet off the end of another branch that had no business being cut. I was about to say something when Sean hollered from across the street and stopped him from doing any more damage. He'd not been part of my conversation with Sean and Angelo, and he must not have known the plan since his action was in direct contradiction to that plan. The canopy is now asymmetrical, being higher and having a shorter radius on the house side than on the street side. The only saving grace is that the gash is on the house side. The tree looks perfect from the street, but from my driveway or the neighbor's house the mistake is pretty obvious.
Everything else was done perfectly, and my "quality" grade of "B" reflects a balance between the irreversible mistake on the front-yard oak tree and the high quality of everything else. All the guys were great to work with, friendly, and aimed to please. With the one exception above, they seemed to be experienced, knowledgable, and efficient.

The experienced crew showed up on time and confidently went to work. I was impressed with their teamwork and their abilities to do this dangerous work with such precision. Climbing out onto limbs that were clearly unsafe, they roped, cut and dropped limbs with pinpoint accuracy. The huge pine tree came down the same way, exactly where he wanted it to drop. The ground crew kept pace with the clean up and when everything was done, the area was cleared of any debris and the lawns were raked as well. I would definitely use SB Tree Service again should the need arise, and I'm sure it will with these water oaks.

Sean explained to us that his men DO NOT cut anything until we tell them how
we want them cut. When his 5 men showed up
they did exactly that. My husband went
through every tree and shrub and explained to them how he wanted them. They didn’t leave until we were 100%
satisfied with the job. I would
