He started going on this rant about how people misunderstand this special and I told him I understood what the special meant. He was very short with his responses and I got a feeling like I was going to get taken advantage of by using this company. I do not know if he had a bad experience with a customer earlier, but his response was very unprofessional and made me not want to work with this company.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $89 for up to Two Hours of Landscape Lighting Repair and Inspection!

+ 1 moreFrank was extremely professional. If I were to hire them again it'd be because of him. He was punctual, optimistic about the work that had to be done and very polite. He cleaned up after he left. The only thing I would suggest to others is that they get a quote on what they'd like done before they come out to your home. If it weren't for the Angies list deal, I would not be able to afford them. I wanted two sconces installed and they gave me a quote of $380 each. Other than that, the experience was good.
Description of Work: I got the deal from Angies list. He installed a chandelier and centered and installed a flush mount. He also troubleshooted 2 of my outdoor lights.

+ 1 moreVery expensive $90.00 an hour for main electrician and $40.00 for helper. The Invoice was billed automatically to my credit card when I specified I would pay by check. If you pay by credit card (Visa) the company automatically charges 3% of total price which is convenience fee? Why? And a Visa? DJ charges these fee which I totally do not understand and pockets that fee. Was not happy with overall experience as landscape lights did not work two weeks after. Went ahead and had to redo all the work done by DJ again with another Electrician. They are all working great now!

+ -1 moreAppointment was for 8am. By 8:20 I called the company to find out if the appointment was cancelled. I was told there was more traffic than expected. The young man arrived around 8:30. Other reviews mentioned a team of professionals. Perhaps the company did not consider my problems to be difficult or time consuming. I explained my three problems. He found a switch in the house that had to be on to make the outside motion detectors work but he didn't seem to want to go get new motion detectors so that they would work properly. He answered my questions about the electric panel surge protector and he moved the microwave to a different breaker so that if it tripped the new breaker I would know the problem was in the microwave not the breaker panel. He then went to his truck and spent quite a bit of time talking to the office. When he presented me with the bill there was a $65 convenience fee added to the bill. I asked what that was and he said that was the extra charge because he wasn't there for the minimum 3 hours. I told him no one had said anything about a three hour minimum charge. He called the office back and they waived the charge.circuit I did not feel I was dealing with a professional. A professional would have taken down the motion detector and told me if I needed a new one and then went and got it. I had the feeling that he was new to the job and there might have been a communication problem. I feel he answered my specific questions but didn't know how to go beyond what I asked to really solve the motion detector problem. His solution for the microwave problem left me feeling up in the air. It might or might not work. I believe he did solve the problem but I didn't know that when he left. I would give this company a second chance. I would just ask for a more experienced electrician and ask specifically about any extra charges I should know about in advance..
Description of Work: I had three problems. 1. The motion detector lights outside the house were not working. The electrician found a switch in the house that had to be on in order for the lights to work at all. That turned the lights on but they didn't go on and off based on motion. They just stayed on when the switch was on. The electrician said it might be the motion detector but he didn't take them down to see what was causing that problem. 2. The surge protector on the electric panel wasn't working. He explained that the box I thought was a surge wasn't one and he explained what it really did. 3. The microwave was tripping the circuit breaker intermittently. He moved the microwave to another breaker and said that if the problem continued, the problem was the microwave not the breaker.

There was also a first-time service charge on top of the hourly fee, which I was very surprised about. But I will use them again as the work and manner of the electrician was very professional, and he was punctional which I liked.
Description of Work: Changed two-prong outlets to three-prong. Tested two outlets for electrical-short possibilities and gave me a price for an out-door motion device. Very business-like, very professional.

+ 0 moreI purchased the Angie's List Big Deal for $49 ($200 value) for Landscape Lighting Design and Consultation, it was basically a visit for an estimate. This is something some companies will do for free to get your business. They did come out on the weekend and were professional. But I would definitely not pay $200 (the full price) for something like this. I would Absolutely not hire them again. Way too expensive. The price they quoted me was around $170 per fixture for installation, not counting the cost of the fixture itself. I would have had around 50 fixtures installed. Usually there's a bit of haggling with home improvement but they were not interested in lowering their price. I suggest you shop around, you will find that most companies are much more reasonable with regards to cost. I have found an experienced installer who will do it for far less than the above quote.

The cost was $2,722.17 ($2,399.29 after 10% Angie's List discount and after reducing 2nd worker's hourly rate from $90/hr to $60/hr plus $322.88 for fixtures purchased at Home Depot) Even though I was very satisfied with the work done, I was quoted a price of $1,200 to $1,500 for the job. Unfortunately, I did not get that in writing. Since the price was about doubled at completion, I would not use them again.
Description of Work: Landscape lighting (front and back patio) and a floodlight installed on side of house.

+ 1 moreThey were both good. All the work was great. The group doing the installation project maybe could have communicated better with each other. They came by twice and on one of the appointments, they arrived late. I did need them to come back to add a couple lights and adjust a light they had put in a tree. It really made my backyard better than it was before. It turned my backyard into a living area.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for electrical work and outdoor lighting. They did lighting on the tree in my backyard, installation of a motion sensor flood light outside, and connected a chandelier with a dimmer.

Description of Work: I had electrical outlets that needed to be put about an inch back into the wall. This entailed replacing the old boxes with new ones and re connecting the wires. The work was very good and professional. But the price would have been really too high if I had not gotten the discount coupons. But am very happy with the work performed.

I had bids to do the work for from $300-$500.00, and one for $700.00 that included supplying the light fixtures. However, I felt an urgency for doing it prior to Thanksgiving and the companies who gave me bids could not do it before Thanksgiving, so I called DJ Electric. They told me they had a cancelation and could send someone first thing in the morning. I bought the lighting myself and described it to the owner at DJ Electric. He said the charge would be $90.00 per hour and that the electrician's truck came fully loaded with everything I would need.When the electrician got here, he could not tell me how much it would be before he started the job, only charge by the hour, but he estimated it would be about 4 -5 hours work to do 3 lamp posts with a switch and installing the ground lighting kit, which would be less that $400.00-$500.00 I gave him the go ahead to start, and he ran into problems ( he did not have enough pipe). He said it would be easier if he could tie the lighting into the flood lights, to be operated by the same switch. I allowed that to save time and money.When he was half way through he told me I would need to use lower watt flood lights and florescent energy saver bulbs, because that configuration may be too much for one switch. When he finished the project, he charged me for 6 hours and $279.00 in materials - though he could show me no receipt for materials. HE put 370' of wire for $151.00, but I am not sure how he used that much to go a max of 30 feet. The only materials he provided was wire and pipe. I had quotes that provided the lighting that were less than the $819.00 I paid, and he did not even touch the lighting kit I bought. I think this method if doing business is dishonest, and I would not use the service again, though the guy who installed did not do a bad job with what he decided to do. I have 2 other properties needing electrical work, and still need to finish this house's landscape lighting, but will not use him to do it. Too expensive and a bit deceitful.

Through the ratings on Angie's List and a special offer from the company ($100 worth of work for $50), we selected DJ Electric. As soon as we bought the special, we were contacted by the company and a time set for work to begin. We were delighted with the electrician, Russ, who, not only did everything on our list (with some help from Jose on the last day), but offered suggestions and money saving ideas for the future. All of the work was done quickly and with good humor--Russ is terrific and we will certainly be calling when we get our next electrical to-do list finalized!
Description of Work: We had two carriage lights on either side of our garage door installed (no lights there previously so required running wire in the attic and cutting new boxes), installed a motion sensor light in the back of the house, put in two outside outlets, changed our fuse box to accommodate two hair dryers on at once, put in GFI outlets to bring the bathrooms to code, and put in utility lighting in the garage.

The owner David came out personally and explained everything to me, what I needed, what they could do for the Big Deal, and they did exactly what they said they were going to do. I called them back later and they came out and did some more work for me. In the last three weeks the company has sent me two thank you cards for using their service. I thought this was very thoughtful.

I have contacted Angie's List for a refund of my purchase. Update.....After speaking with Angies List and DJ Electric it is clear that there was confusion on both sides as to the coupon requirements and fulfillment. We have requested a refund which is being provided . At this time we believe it is in our best interest to look at another Landscape Lighting Company.

+ -1 more. I had a problem with the GFI connected to four kitchen outlets kept jumping after an electrical storm. Bought the Big Deal for $99 to get $199 worth of service and DJ Electric came out and repaired. It turned out when my house was originally built the wiring was all connected in reverse so any high voltage appliance would make it jump. Also had an outlet outside by the front door which didn't work. The tech realized the outlet outside was connected to a GFI in the half bath downstairs. Still have $44 left over on the deal which we will use for them to replace our master bedroom fan that keeps making the d*** squeaky noise. Word of advise don't try to be handyman when it comes to electricity, leave it to the pros!
Description of Work: Tech rewired 2 outlets in my kitchen which kept on jumping off. Secured outside outlet with electrical tape and showed me that the outlet outside was connected to the GFI in our downstairs bath.

+ -1 moreLet me start by saying that if it wasn't for the fact that the company's owner (David) is shady, and you are misguided when you are given a quote, then I wouldve rated this company better. When we called this company to get a quote, we were told that they charged $85 to come out and then $80/hour. If the job took more than 3 hours they would waive the $85 they charge to come out. They sent out 2 guys who took about 2 hours completing the job and then spent about 1/2 hour on the phone with David the owner trying to figure out the bill. When we got the bill we were being charged for 5 hours. When we questioned the bill, they claimed that they told us it was $80/per man hour. Therefore 2 1/2 hours. ?per guy. Which was not the case. Also (even though they where charging for 5 hours) they refused to waive the $85 because according to them they never went over 3 hours. How does that make sense. ?After much arguing back and forth with David, he told me that he had recorded the original conversation when the quote was made (which is illegal without my consent) when I asked to hear such conversation he said he would get back to me the next day with it. Which surprisingly he never did. However he did send my bill to their collections dept. so that my credit would be affected. So I was forced to pay the bill I didn't agree with. ?So if this is what you are looking for, by all means use them.

They informed me of what they were going to do and answered my questions. I had received an estimate before hand for the work, and the final bill was no higher than quoted. I was very happy with the work done, and the landscape lights make such a difference for my house! It looks BEAUTIFUL! I would recommend this company to everyone.
