workman showed up on time. showed him what i wanted completed. he said he could not tell me how long it would take. said he would need an estimator to come out. (keep in mind this is simple, run of the mill, work for an electrician…nothing special). i told him to forget it, that i wasn't a "blank check". owner of the company called back and said to put him to work, that workman could get it done in the two hour window (referring to the coupon i bought). so the guy went to work and completed the job within 2 hrs. his workmanship was just so-so…but functional…since i was being tough about the time/money, i wasn't going to complain about the "look". i then asked about another project since he was here and i had the other coupon. again, the same response about the amount of time that was required was unknown. so i told him to forget it. but when it came time to settle the bill, he told me that i had used the second coupon by having him investigate the feasibility of the second job (installing a new outlet). i was not happy with this b/c it was 2 hrs of work that i purchased and it took him 30 minutes to investigate with nothing actually being accomplished. so i said i would pay him his regular billing rate ($100 hr) for 1/2 hr of work he did. additionally, the workman tried to charge me a $65 service charge just to come out, which i refused to pay. then the workman couldn't price the materials (he had to call the office repeatedly to get the info and so he was standing around in my house for 15 minutes waiting). Additionally, there was some real confusion about what services were actually offered and the "restrictions" on the coupon. it just seemed like they were making this stuff up as they went along. except for being on time, everything else was below my expectations.
Description of Work: Installation of new circuit, was very happy when he left and i knew I woudl not have to deal with these people again.

Customer. We want above and beyond for you and preformed what you asked. The major concern we have is the bad checks that you gave us and the work you ask our electrician without a permit. The electrician was not able to give you a proposal for the scheduled service because you want him to rewire the kitchen. call being that you were remolding a kitchen without a permit. We can not do work with out a permit and against the NEC. Please do keep in mind that the work that was preformed had to follow the guidelines of the deal you purchased on line.

The technicians Frank and Brett were punctual, professional and quick! When the job was completed and the invoice was presented for my signature, there was a "DP" (dispatch fee) of $65 added. This fee was not mentioned by the representative Kasey when I scheduled the appointment, advising her I had a coupon referral from Angie's list. The technicians had to phone the owner David Jimenez to ok my not paying the "DP" fee. I was advised by the technicians that Angie's list participants were not being advised about this fee. This had become a point of contention with Angie's list participants. Please investigate.

Thank you for the review. Our standard rates are $90 per hour per technician. We have a $65 dispatch fee, which is waived if the technician is there longer than 3 hours. Angie's List is the one that makes the coupons. We are sorry that the customer is upset about the dispatch fee, but it was waived to make customer happy.

They were to be at my house at 8am I was told and arrived at 8:48am, didn't start till 9am and finished at 10:08am. Work was perform, but did not seem too professional. They billed me for an additional 1/2 hour also. In the Big Deal I did not see anything about a Call Fee which was also charged on site for $65, so I had to pay another $108 on top of the Big Deal ($50).
Description of Work: The job entailed of hanging of a chandelier (weight 20lbs).

This customer bought our Big Deal, " $50 for $100 worth of work" Which he bought 2 of these. The customer lives in Palm Beach County, which we do not service for any Big Deal's. We decided to honor the coupon even though it was out of our service area. Customer was quoted for two technicians, because the job he wanted completed required 2 technicians, and was quoted our dispatch fee. He was also told that the fee is waived if they are there longer than 3 hours. Our technicians where there for an hour and half(we have trackers on every technician, so we do have the exact time when they arrived and when they left. Which was 8:41am to 10:31am on February 19th, 2013) The customer wanted a chandelier hung that was 3-4 ft across, with the ceiling height of 18ft. These tall of ceilings require the big "A" frame ladder to reach that height. This ladder requires two technicians for use. While one individual to be working on the ladder, the second is to be at the base of the ladder holding it. This is a safety regulation. We are sad to hear that this customer is upset, especially after the fact that he forgot about his original scheduled service on February 14th, 2013. Our technicians were more than half way to customers home(an hour and half ride for our technicians) when the customer called to inform us that he was not home and needed to reschedule, which we gladly did for him. We did not charge him a trip charge for that, nor travel time going to his home, which was out of our service area. We also gave him a discounted rate on the second technician. We are sorry that the customer is upset. We gave him as many discounts as we possibly could.

It turned it out well! They went out of their way to make sure we were happy when the service was done. We even got a thank you card from them afterwards.
Description of Work: They helped us troubleshoot some lighting issues and we also had a washer that was easily fixed and he was able to fix our the breaker switch in the dryer.

Description of Work: This was by far the VERY WORST experience I have ever experienced by a contractor. When the tech, Russell, arrived I told him I would like a bathroom light and a living room fan hung. Russell and his boss Doug told the the offer only covered one item; however, the Angie List offer stated all electrical NEEDS (with an "S") for $99. I was charged over $600 for the installation of a bathroom light which only required connecting 3 wires to the box and hanging a ceiling fan in the living room which required installing a switch box and hanging the fan. This took the tech all day to complete (over 6 hours) at a rate of $99 per hour which resulted in a total cost of over $600. After they deducted the Angie's list offer amount I had to pay an additional $325 which when you add in the $99 I paid for the SPECIAL OFFER the total out of pocket cost was over $425. THIS WAS A TOTAL RIP-OFF. Services performed: -- one bathroom light installed -- one living room fan installed with a switch box

According to the owner of the company, I did not read the small print and the price I paid was for one service only. I was expecting to have the technician here for more services. He just fixed one outlet and changing one lamp. I know other people complained about the same problem. Not satisfied.

The guy they sent was not the decison maker and could not verify if he could accomplish the items on my list. I had to run out for an errand and when I returned he was gone. They told me they could not do (after the fact) any of the items I asked them to do (for one reason or another) so for $99 they fixed a couple outlet plates. I would have prefered the person who could perform the work to come to the house so if they couldn't accomplish this particular task then I could have given them other things to do while there for 2 hours. They only stayed for 1 hour and did very little. They really only want to hang a ceiling fan or change a light fixture for this deal. It is not for 2 hours of electrical services as the deal stated. The suppliers response below has no truth to it at all except that I did have 1 item on the list that was originally done without a permit (a kiitchen outlet) and they did not want to touch it (without getting a permit which takes weeks and would not be for this deal). No other work required a permit. I had numerous things on the list they easily could have done OR CALLED ME BEFORE LEAVING! No refund was offered. Owner lied about us being anywhere near permit office also (at least 1 mile or more from house, not across the street!). Could not get permit for a 2 hour job so it would not have applied for this deal. I felt they kept trying to upsell me to spend more with them. I just wanted to get my money's worth from the first deal. Had they done a good job I would have hired them for much more lucrative work.

Our electrician would not preform the work because your home was across the street from the Miami Beach building department. The owner made it clear that this work had to be preformed with permits. This home as had most of the work done with out any permits. We will not do this and are very sorry that there was nothing else we could do. We offered a refund and the client was still up set that we would not do the work with out a permit.

Jose, the technician, showed up right on time and was polite and professional. I showed him what I wanted done, and he assured me that he could get all 18 outlets changed in the time allotted, which really made my day. I was expecting to have to pay for extra time, but he did exactly as he said and got them all done in 2 hours. I am also going to update some light fixtures in my home in the near future, and have already purchased more Angie's List Big Deals for DJ Electric to do so. Thx DJ's and Jose!

Not much to tell, we had some trouble with appointment times. We had paid for $100 of work but just wanted an estimate for the job as we felt it was larger than a one home job and they sent us a bill for an extra $20 but finally removed the charge when we complained. They probably do a better job on a single family home.

Customer had purchased our Big Deal, "$50 for $100 worth of DJ Bucks" Customer only paid $50, not $100. When scheduling to use the Big Deal they had purchased, they did not know what was wrong with the breakers. We then set up a service call for our technician to go out and trouble shoot the breakers. The first time we scheduled, they had requested a service call in the afternoon. The technician that was scheduled to go to their rental property had gotten tied up on his first service call(And we had no other available techs that day). We called the customer to reschedule for the next day. Customer's husband had went to meet the technician at the rental property, but had forgotten his cell phone, so we were unable to contact him. We were able to contact the customer who had set everything up to reschedule for the next day. When our technician went out he found that the disconnects were bad. We gave the customer a quote to remove and replace the disconnects. When following up, customer decided to wait until the new year to do the project as it was costly. When following up in the new year, customer decided not to go with our company. In regards to the invoice. The customer had set up a service call for our technician to trouble shoot the breakers. Not to just give an estimate. Our technician spent one hour on the property. Our rates are $90 per hour and a $65 dispatch fee(Waived if the techinician is there longer than 3 hours.) The total for the invoice was $155. The customer had the $100 credit from the Big Deal she had purchased. Leaving the remaining balance of $55. We like to keep our customers happy, and happily waived the $55, leaving the customer with a zero balance.

Russell was very, very nice and helpful. He explained everything that he was doing. I have spotlights on my carport that light the landscaping that haven't worked in a long time. Russell took the time to explain what he was repairing and explained that I may need to replace them down the road but that his fixes would help for now. He also fixed an outside outlet that had a cover broken. He really made me feel at ease and comfortable and I was glad that he took the time to inform me of his process.

The lights were all installed and look great, however it was like pulling teeth to get estimates for work to be done.
Description of Work: I needed 3 outdoor lights replaced1 on both sides of my garage door and 1 by my front door. Bret also repaired a switch that was not up to code. I wanted the new lights recessed because you could see the electrical boxes on my old ones. Brethren went in to state he may have to chip tile and could not give me an estimate for the work. We went round on this for several minutes, he then stated we could use a thinner box that would be hidden (he could have suggested that in the first place). He also only had one box and asked if I wanted to go purchase another one to save time- I had him go. I do need other work done in the house but be was so evasive about giving me prices I a going to go with another company.

When I bought the "big deal" through Angies list, which included two hours of labor, I reviewed the problems that I had with the owner. It was clear that any time beyond the two hours would be charged extra. I set an appointment for approximately one month later. When the appointment time came, two technicians (not one) showed up, and I was informed that I would be charged for both at almost twice the hourly rate (or was given the option of having the second one sit in the truck at no charge). When I phoned the owner to ask why he had sent two technicians he explained that he had made the judgment call himself to do that AFTER we had spoken and that it would work to my benefit because two technicians would work faster 3-4 times faster than one. Not that I was convinced, but I decided to let both of them work. The job took 9 man hours to repair the short circuit, including approximately 30 feet of conduit and the 30 minutes to check the landscape and AC circuit issues. Part of the time charged was consumed in changing the wiring when the technicians realized that one of the wires that they thought had been pulled thorugh the conduit was not. Finally, I was less than happy with the way the conduit wrapped around a corner of the house and was left 4 inches away from the wall. The technicians explained that the conduit was curved according to code and that to get it to hug the wall around the corner they would need a part that they did not have. I was given the choice of leaving it as is or paying the two of them at $150/hour combined to drive to an electrical supplies place to get the part t'hat they did not have in order to create a sharp corner in the conduit. The technicians seemed very capable, were professional, and were easy to work with. The problems seem to be with the company's policies, which in my opinion were less than transparent at best and perhaps somewhate deceptive at worst. It is a shame, because I was looking for a reliable electrician that I could have a relationship with and instead I felt that I overpaid and fell somewhat victim to a one-time "fast and loose" transaction.
Description of Work: They repaired a short in an electrical circuit, diagonosed but did not repair a problem with landscape lighting, and verified correct voltage feeding an air conditioning circuit.

Overall, it was a great experience from booking the date to getting the work done.
Description of Work: The two young men from DJ electric arrived right on time. My old house was built in 1920 so the electrical is "vintage" to put it nicely. They worked around the limitations and the resulting workmanship is outstanding. I'm telling you these guys were phenomenal and I will definitely use them again.

The person was extremely professional and respectful to my 93 yr old father and to me. He explained the areas that needed repairs to me and why rather than just fixing something and then leaving. He could not have been nicer and kinder. I would definitely use this company again!

the young man was punctual, polite and got right to work. he completed the work quickly, explained what he was going to do and what he did when finished. he did not apply any sealing material around the new outlet, I questioned this and he said it was not necessary. I don't know if this is the company's method or the individual's, but I sealed it myself. not a big deal but if you put a hole in a house from the outside thru to the interior room I think sealing/caulking should be standard.

The electrician was very knowledgeable and was able to spend time in explaining several problems that I would need to get fixed. He said he will get me a list of the things that we discussed were my electrical issues. Later on, I got the list and considered hiring them to do the job, however, their price was too high for me to be able to do that. I may shop around for other companies on Angie's list so I can do a price compare.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for $49 for Whole House Electrical Inspection. 1st off when the electrician arrived he told me that the inspection wasn't really an inspection, but more of a high overview, not getting into nitty gritty stuff. I said okay, but was not really pleased that it wasn't clear on the Big Deal. maybe they should have included the restrictions right off the bat. He did a walkthrough with me around the house and I told him my issues or potential issues and he gave me his opinion on what work, if any is needed.
