My Husband was home when the Woman technician showed up to do our air duct cleaning. The woman was here for about an hour and put a great scare into my Husband and I with all of the "problems" she claimed to have found in our attic. The quote she provided was 4 pages long at a total cost of around $15,000 for the following issues she claimed we had: -Air ducts with wholes -Air ducts that needed to be attached -Insulation that had issues due to a rodent problem throughout the entire attic -Complete attic cleaning and remediation When we called to get another quote from an A rated Angie's list company they found none of her claims to be correct. When I called this company to advise them of this incident and request our payment for the service call to be refunded they said they would research this and call me back. It has been over 24 hours and I have heard nothing. I would NEVER EVER EVER use this company for anything. For someone to come up with such an elaborate, expensive quote to fix problems that do not exist is just wrong.
Description of Work: The provider was called out to our home to perform a duct cleaning. We had used the provider in the past and while we thought their prices were always high, they always seemed to do quality work. Until they tried to rip us off for around $15,000.00.

The shower unit and inspection took about one hour. They informed me it could possibly be fixed but given the age and price recommended I buy a new one (they do not sell them and this was not an upsell!). They said if I bought a new one the install is easy and they could install it in short order. The outside pipes were old and leading and cracked at one area. Their two men working about about two hours fixed it all including new copper piping. They had two men here at the scheduled start time of 8:30 and were here until 1:00. The quality of the work is great.
Description of Work: Disassembled shower unit and inspected it. Repaired two exterior faucets / put in new ones. Changed outside pipe from water main at house to entry into house and faucet / spigot running off it with copper pipe and new faucets and elbows.

Art gave my sister a verbal estimated installation price of $700 then gave her a bill for $39.95 to give this estimate. She called Home Depot who installed them for $250, including a few parts; Home Depot was very professional, did not charge for giving an estimate, which they did over the phone and additionally they removed the old toilets. I view this business practice of Art Plumbing as gouging and it is no coincidence that they did not put their estimate in writing but rather indicated on their bill "gave options for installation". As an aside, my sister informed the Art Plumbing service rep that she could fly her plumber down from the Northeast to install the toilets for less money than $700.
Description of Work: My sister called Art for an estimate to install two new toilets that she just purchased. Art Plumbing would not provide an estimate over the phone not even a ballpark amount without coming out to look at the toilets. To be clear, he was only requested to install the toilets my sister had already purchased.

I had a clogged kitchen drain.... I determined on my own it was not my disposal but the pipe further down where I could not get to myself.... without the use of a snake or machine.... I had someone come from Art to take a look and before even figuring out if it was as simple as using a plunger or a snake he quoted me over $500 because he claimed he could only fix it with a special machine and tried selling me some stupid product for $50. I was super caught off guard because I rent to there was NO way I was paying 500 for a clogged drain.... but he assured me that he wouldn't be able to get it out just by snaking it because this happens all the time in big buildings.... SO I had my upstairs neighbor come down and talk to the plumber and he told him a totally different amount (which was still in the hunders) .... needless to say I paid the $40 fee for having him come by and sent him on his way..... my neighbor came down and used a plunger and snaked it for 5 minutes and fixed it. THANK GOODNESS I did not take the plumbers advice of using his machine and dumb video camera to see what the clog was-who cares whats clogging my drain?! .... I just felt like they knew people in this area/building would shell out money to quickly fix a problem and take their word for it.

They told me my plumbing pipe was disintegrated and that it needed to be cut out of my house and replaced. I got a second opinion and after this company excavated my house, they found that there wasn't an issue with the pipe. Art's Plumbing took a video of my pipes and wouldn't show it to me. The video was on a VHS, so I wasn't able to view it until later. After viewing it, I saw nothing wrong with my pipes.

apparently the company was pouring tons of $ in advertising as their commercials were relentless on a radio station i listen to in the miami area...the announcer raving how they were "tops" and "friends"...how they they had dozens of radio dispatched trucks...."years & years of professional, dependable service". OK...i bit. i called and was SPECIFIC that i simply wanted to replace the electric tankless water heater in the small condo i just moved into [which was bought by an associate as an investment, but through his kindness would allow me to live there while just covering maintenance, etc]. the size and type needed are less than $300 in most any retail store [HD/Lowes, etc] or online. on inspection it was obvious that the element had burnt out, and i even had a retired master plumber look at it...but i wanted a currently licensed plumber to do the job to insure there would be no problems down the road.when the tech arrived his so-called assessment was that to replace the unit [which was working fine for years] would require an electrician to be called in first to rewire this & that, and blah, blah, blah technical BS. REALLY?...the freaking thing was fine for years...it just had outlived its "life".. .so what was his recommendation? ..switch over to a tank heater [which BTW would increase monthly electric bills significantly...now understand that there were also severe space limitations in the closet, and only 1 person would occupy the condo...so how much hot water is needed...and in sunny/hot florida??but he was "lucky" that day...he caught us [the owner & myself] on a day when we were both vulnerable/under severe stress due to a health issue we were dealing with, with a family member that was at that moment in the ER. i had to get approval/review the situation with the owner [by phone], who quite honestly "wasnt thinking straight" due to his daughters health issue...so with his rational mind/thoughts elsewhere he just said "do it"...and what was it that the tech did?... turned a simple job of just slipping in another tankless unit without even having to reconfigure any pipes...into a MAJOR job, running pipes here & there..and get this!...and doing electrical work that he earlier stated someone would need to be called in to d o.so one would have to ask why?...why would a company/tech that advertises relentlessly about "customers coming first", "honest & dependable" essentially scam a customer?... can you say "commission"?...an off name brand POS heater to boot with a ridiculous extended 10 year warranty.. .$1800!!!i feel like a complete fool...i know that i know better...i know that my associate knows better.. .but we were vulnerable and they squirmed their way in...just as i am confident they do with "little old ladies" and others who are less informed.IMO their motto should be "if we can jack up/pad the bill with work that wasnt requested or needed...you can depend on us!" to add insult to injury they had the audacity to charge an additional $40 for a service call BUYER BEWARE!!! i would gladly go to court and swear on the Bible that all the above is 100% accurate... simple, anything for a buck and screw the consumer

Obtained bid from Art to fix a cracked PVC pipe - near water main. Their bid was nearly $600 - as they do fixed bid. I went to home depot, bought <$10 worth of parts, and fixed the pipe in a couple hours - including time to obtain parts. I have used Art in the past for AC work but I will never use them again due to this unreasonable bid.

The drain line on my A/C was clogged. The technician from Art said the drain line could not be unclogged and recommended the installation of a new drain line at a cost of $1,300. I found another A/C service provider on Angie's list that was able to completely unclog the drain at a cost of $95.00.

This was aggravating and disappointing from beginning to end. I saw a commercial for this company on TV. New to this area, I thought I would give them a try. We did not have an emergency. We just wanted new valves put on before installing new sinks. We were replacing the vanities in two bathrooms and we had already removed the old vanities so the work areas were completely clear, no crawling under cabinets to get to the job. The shut-off valves were probably 50 years old and were either leaking or had broken handles or both. I called the company and made an appointment. I was told there was a fee for an estimate but it would be rolled into the price of the work if we chose to have it done. I am wary of any company who charges for an estimate. The appointment window came and went without anyone showing up nor was there a call from the company. I called and was given an half-hearted apology and rescheduled for the next day. When the technician, Michael, arrived the next day, I showed him the work I wanted done. I expected to spend anywhere from $250-$300 for what I thought would be a fairly simple job of removing the old valves and putting on 4 new ones. Michael looked at the two bathrooms and then told me he would go to his truck and write up the estimate. He sat in his truck for about 15 minutes, which seemed a ridiculous amount of time to write an estimate for the work to be done. When he came back in he launched into a sales pitch for a $4000 water filtration system I neither wanted nor needed. It was a high-pressure sales pitch and every time I tried to say I was not interested, he would just continue going through the options. There was a $4051 option, a $3025 option, a $2284 option and a $1217 (all included the replacement of the 4 valves). When I finally got him to understand I just wanted an estimate for the 4 valves I was told it would be $700. I was shocked. I asked how long the work would take and he said about an hour. I thought $700 for an hour's work and a few inexpensive valves was ridiculous. His justification was that they were a premium company and usually provided emergency work. I explained how nobody showed up for the first appointment and nobody called. I said I thought it was offensive to be asked to pay $39.95 to hear his unsolicited sales pitch and receive an outrageous estimate and asked him to leave. He would not leave unless I signed for the credit card charge. I told him I would sign but I was going to call the company and ask for my money back. I called the company and asked to speak to the owner or manager. I was told he was "off today" and they would not tell me his name nor would they tell him to call me back. I was told to call again tomorrow. I called the next day and was told this time I would need to speak to "Art" but he wasn't in. I called several more times trying to speak to Art to no avail. I tried to dispute the charge but my credit card company allowed it to stand because I signed the credit card slip. I figure, at this point, the $39.95 I spent allows me to tell my story and warn everybody else to stay away from this company unless you are in the market for a $4000 water filtration system. I did find another plumber who was polite, prompt, didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want and did the work for $270. He agreed that $700 was an outrageous amount for the job.

I called Art Plumbing and they came within a few hours. The technician took one look at the heater and gave me a quote for installing a new heater. It was much higher than I had anticipated so I declined the offer. Art Plumbing are very pleasant to deal with and if price in no issue, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I suggest asking for an idea of the price they will charge for your job over the phone so you can make a decision.

An appointment was made at 10am for an A/C estimate/repair to be done the same day. We were told someone would arrive between 330 and 5pm and they would call 30 min prior to say they were on their way. At 430 pm we had not heard anything and when we called the company they stated they had no record of our appointment and wasted 20 minutes more of our time on the phone trying to find any of our information in their system. We asked if they could still come out, since we were on a tight timeline to get the A/C unit fixed, and they said someone would be there between 5pm and 630pm. At 6pm with no repair man in site we again called and the same secretary told us the repair man was still at another job and would not be done until 8pm. When we asked why they did not at least call us we received the same excuse that our information got mixed up in their system. Suffice it to say we went with another A/C company. It is too bad we cannot get back the wasted time and money we spent.

Description of Work: The first appointment they did not show up for and the second one they were late. I initially called this company to get two hot water heaters inspected after we purchased a new home. I picked this company because they were local, and because they were also noted as Rheem hot water heater dealers on Rheem's web site. When the technician arrived, he sold me on a complete plumbing system inspection at an annual service agreement price. The inspection felt much more like a sales call than an inspection. I was not comfortable with how intensely the technician was selling specific and expensive ideas like a whole-house water filter system, and a whole-house water softener. The "sales pitch" feel of the inspection made it difficult for me to tell what I really needed. I must say, the inspection of the house's plumbing system was thorough. I made notes of everything that was brought up. On the spot, I agreed to the unplugging of three drains (two tubs and one sink). I was a bit surprised that each unplugging was to be charged at a flat rate of $99 per drain. The technician charged me "only $198" for all three drains, but that work still felt quite expensive. One of the things the technician also sold me on was a house drain video inspection. We scheduled it a few days later. That day came and the inspector did not arrive. I called the office and the girl there said it had not been scheduled by the first technician. They arranged for the inspection to take place the next day instead. That inspection was thorough and felt like a good value at $99. The inspector snaked a fiber-optic video camera in from the outside drain clean-out and was able to show me the condition of the drains all the way to the street sewer on the downstream side, and up to the house's different vertical pipes on the upstream side. This technician was not trying to sell me anything more. I trusted him more and was glad, as a new owner, that this inspection had been done. There were several action items that were noted on the first inspection. Four weeks later I haven't heard back from the original technician or the company. I have decided not to follow up with them because I was just not comfortable with the intensity of the sales pitch and because this company's flat-rate pricing system just seems too expensive to me. I would suggest that this company has very capable people. It's possible that my first technician was an exception, but I will keep looking for a plumbing company that has simple time-and-materials billing and that is more focused on doing the job they were hired to do than on selling other services and equipment.
Description of Work: Performed preventative maintenance check on two hot water heaters. Although I did not initially request this, I agreed to a complete plumbing inspection since we had just purchased the house. This led to an additional video inspection (useful), and the unplugging of three drains (overpriced). Some follow-up work was identified.

I had had a great experience with their plumbing and fixed pricing for drain clog, because they quoted the price up front and stuck to it, and I even had them perform additional work because of it. Both their plumbing and their A/C service professionals also arrived same day. My complaint is the bait pricing for the A/C work and I will never use them again because of it. I can't speak for the quality of their technicians, which may be good, but I don't like the "bait" form of contracting. I asked ahead of time what I could expect in terms of pricing (even spoke to a manager to ask what the typical problems are and what they typically cost, and he was nice enough to give me a run down). Maybe I just didn't ask the right questions because they told me $29 for the service call and then when they got there, after taking a preliminary look, they told me they would have to open the unit and see and it would cost another $129 to diagnose it. I had thought that that the $29 was the diagnosis fee and then they would tell me how much it would cost to repair it, but apparently I am supposed to pay $158 before any repairs are even performed. This may be fair (after all the technician's time is worth something) but it is not fair to fail to disclose this to the consumer, especially when I went to the trouble to ask "up front" what I could expect. When I said this, he said (in response to my reaction) that he would credit back the diagnosis time to the repair costs (but of course, he wouldn't know until he looked what those repair costs would be). This was also after I was quoted some very unexpected prices for a filter, so by this time I was wary. I paid for the $29 site visit and asked him to not proceed.
Description of Work: I called for a service call to find out what was wrong with my a/c, agreed to pay $29 to have them make a service call and sent them away before performing work, because apparently the diagnosis fee was another $129 on top of the $29 I had agreed to pay. So instead of paying $159 before performing any repairs, I paid the $29 which apparently was the cost to "drive to my house" and did not proceed.
