On 5/14/12 I brought my car in because the A/C stopped working. They charged it, I paid about $53 and went home. The next day the A/C didn't work, so I brought it back. They said they had to replace the two hard lines because there was a leak. They ordered the part and installed it the next day. That cost another $552. A couple days later, someone pointed out that my headlight wasn't working. I brought it back to Dave's and asked if something happened to the headlight while they were working on my A/C. They said no, put in a new bulb and charged me $26.50. I drove home and noticed that my dome light hadn't turned off. I tried to turn it off and couldn't. The plastic over the light was extremely hot. I turned around and went back to Dave's. They said they had forgotten to turn the dome switch off while they were checking the lights for the headlamps. Sloppy! On 6/3/12, my car wouldn't start. I called AAA who came out an jumped my battery. Dave's Tires had installed that battery in February 2012, so it was still under warranty. By this time, I was pretty sick of bringing my car into Dave's and would've gone elsewhere if it wasn't a warrantied part. When I dropped off the car, I mentioned to Dave the date he had replaced the battery and suggested that I shouldn't have to pay anything for the replacement. He said, "You'll have to pay something." I disagreed and suggested that any labor should be charged back to the company that sold him the defective battery. He said he'd get around to it whenever he could. This was said in a very rude tone. The next day, I called and he said they couldn't get into the car because there was no power and they couldn't get the key to work. I called the dealer and they said the key should work, but maybe the lock got corroded from lack of use. They suggested WD-40 which I passed along to Dave. He said he'd get around to it later. The next day I called to inquire about my car and he informed me that the key didn't work even after applying the WD-40. He suggested I call Pop-A-Lock and have them try to get into the car. I contact ONSTAR and they sent someone out to Dave's to try. I met them there and we tried the extra key I had and it opened the car. I told Dave the key worked fine and he tried the one I left him and it didn't work (defective key...great!) I traded the working key for the bad one and went home. The next day I called and he said he couldn't find any paperwork on the old battery that he supposedly put in my car in February. He told me he didn't think he did the original work. I drove down with the receipt and gave it to him and pretty much stormed out of there. Later that day, he called me and said the car was ready. I went to get my car and he handed me the keys and said he couldn't find the information because I gave him the date he did the work and not the date he actually charged the credit card. I was not charged for the replacement battery.
There are a couple things important to point out. From May 14 when I first brought my car to Dave's Tire, it seemed a series of 'coincidental?' issues arose that required me to return the car. (bad headlight, dome light switch left on, A/C charge didn't hold, etc.) which resulted in additional charges to me. Another thing is, as soon as I indicated that I would not pay for the warrantied service, the customer service went from marginally okay to downright rude and neglectful. It took me a week to get my car back after that.
On a more sensitive topic. During the second A/C visit, there was a man helping Dave while Dave was out of the country. I didn't get his name, but he was overtly friendly. He seemed nice enough until we were chatting about world events and got onto the topic of politics. He leaned over to me and said, "Did you ever think you'd see the day we'd put a 'Ni___r' in the White House?" I was appalled and frankly stunned that he felt that was an okay statement to say to a complete stranger! When he realized he wasn't talking to someone who shared his racial bigotry, he backed off.
Needless to say, I would not recommend Dave's tires for auto work--I will certainly not take my car back there again.
