Ed builds the best wood board on board fence I have ever seen. Very heavy duty with 2x4 stringers and 5/8 x 6 slats. This fence is nailed and screwed together, no staples used here. Not only is the construction impressive but the fence is beautiful to look at. The fence is only as good as the installation and Ed does an outstanding job here as well. Nice tight joints, everything is level and professionally installed. There was some difficulty installing the back section of fence as there was a chain link fence immediately behind the new fence and an area covered with rock and sugar sand that complicated the installation. Ed tackled the job with total professionalism and the end result was impressive. I also want to mention that Ed?s helper, Austin, is a hard worker and has an excellent attitude...No laziness or slacking off going on here. This guy came to work and he stepped up to the challenge on this job without complaint. In my business I am obsessive about details and am a fanatic about customer service. Ed is also very detailed and I can tell from his work that he builds and installs his fences as if he were putting it in his own yard. I also want to say that Ed?s wife, Teri, answered my emails in a timely manner and kept me informed as to the installation and permitting of the fence. She made me feel I was a valued customer. I will absolutely use Ed for my next fence project without hesitation. If you want the best fence in the entire Tampa Bay area you need to call Ed at Dura Craft Fence. Thank you Ed and Austin. Called and left message for Ed stating that I wanted an estimate for a vinyl fence plus installation on both sides of my house with 2 gates. Never heard back from him. Left a message through Angie's List (I assume it was either sent email or fax) requesting the same thing. Again no response. Finally reached Ed, by phone, and requested the same estimate for the 3rd time. He set up an appointment with me between 4:30 - 5:30pm on 5/20. He never showed up nor did he call to reschedule or to say why he would miss our appointment. As far as I am concerned, 3 strikes and you are out.
I did get good responses from Bay Area Fence and Gulf to Bay Fence.
All calls were returned by Ed in a prompt manner, it is important to recognize that this is a family business and that Ed and his son perform all the work. There will be times when he cannot pickup the phone or return calls immediately, but he never failed to get back to me on the day I called him. Every step of the job went as planned, on schedule and on price. After receiving the estimate and scheduling the job I called Ed to ask him what time he was going to start so that I could meet him and make sure there were no unanswered questions on either side. He told me he had to go pick up the materials and would be at my house at 9:30. He arrived right on time, we went over any questions and I was able to go back to work within a few minutes.
When working the job he only removed the amount of old fence that he could replace with the new vinyl fence before quitting for the day. The job took two days to remove and replace 220 linear feet of fence with one gate. The terrain on my property is far from level and Ed did a good job with my request of following the terrain when installing the fence. Since I have a dog I was more worried about not having gaps under the fence than the fence top being straight. Ed did a wonderful job of cleaning up any debris from the old wood fence that was removed as there were no remnants of the old fence anywhere in the yard.
Ed is easy going and has no problem sharing his knowledge with you. He is a true professional who will do what it takes to make sure you are happy with his work. I would highly recommend Duracraft fence.

I had another quote from a local fencing company, and not only was it far more expensive, it was much more of a hassle. I absolutely made the right choice by choosing Duracraft. I will certainly do business with them again.

They hauled out the old fence. They did an excellent job. They are both personable and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions.

Ed did not call me. I followed up with another email asking for the status of the call and was provided the same excuse that the owner previously used in a response to a complaint -
It is a fine balancing act when you are the owner of a small business. I'm sorry if Ed wasn't able to call you today. Be assured, he will call you as soon as he can within the next few days. Thank you for your continued patience!
Clearly the owner is struggling to follow-up with prospective customers. Any contractor who can't find 5-10 minutes to return a phone call, in my experience, will be unable to complete any aspect of a project on a timely basis.
Ultimately, as consumers, we want a prompt response, honest dialogue and fair pricing. Failing in the first phase of the process is the strongest indicator of other potential problems.
I will look elsewhere for a fencing contractor. In fact, I received a response from another Angie's List contractor the same day I requested information and while they are also very busy, they are coming out to my house this Sunday to review the project and prepare an estimate. That is an excellent example of customer service.

I am the wife of the owner and don't appreciate it when people lie personally or professionally. I never called [member name removed] nor did I ever say that Ed would contact him that very day. I responded very promptly and professionally to [member name removed] email asking for an estimate and let him know that Ed would contact him. When Ed did not contact him the very next day, [member name removed] sent a blasting email and said he would look elsewhere, which is his prerogative."

The fence work was completed and everything was cleaned up nicely. He did a very nice job on everything. He also quoted me an extremely reasonable price to remove the back fence and reinstall it (this is on my neighbor's property) because it was falling over. When I talked with the neighbor, they were ecstatic that I found a fence company to do the repair and we have now ordered this work to be done.
