"We tried to be fair and end this job on a positive note and we are very disappointed that it has come to this. Please take a moment to be aware of these additional facts: This project was contracted on 9/2/15 and was said to start in 6-8 weeks and it started 10/26. (On Time) The initial height placement of the shower head was later determined by the client to be too low for their liking. We removed a tile, raised the height of the plumbing, and repaired at NO COST to the client, in order to satisfy the situation. The cabinets were initially designed with some custom angles. After the point of contract, the client changed her mind and asked for an alteration of the custom angles. She is right that the communication about the changes did not make it into the cabinet shop prior to the cabinet construction. After we installed the cabinets, the client allowed another company to come in and install granite on top of them. Afterwards, the client pointed out that the angles were not correct. Most contractors would have told them that it was too late, but we actually still agreed to replace the cabinets with new. We also covered the cost of the new slab of granite and the re-fabrication. We took a total loss on this situation, just to make sure that the client would be satisfied. This was one of 2 contracts with the client. The bathroom project was completed entirely, including all requested punch-out by the client. The other project for exterior leak repairs never actually happened because the client never received the money to pay for it from their insurance company. Once they signed our contract for repair, we expedited the order of windows and the installation of blue tarps to prevent additional leakage into the home. We applied for permitting and got approved. We also connected the client with a Certified Public Adjuster for help with filing their claim to their homeowners policy. After the bathroom project was complete, the client decided that they wanted to cancel the other work. They wanted us to return the custom ordered windows. We settled with them by allowing them to keep our un-returnable windows for less than 1/2 their retail value. We cancelled the remaining open permit. Upon our final conversation with the client, we agreed that we were parting ways amicably."
"Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a nice review. These really help us to show others what they can expect from working with us. We strive to make every client's experience a comfortable one."
So would I recommend these guys? Oh yeah. I'd hire them again in an instant.
"You were a great pleasure to work with and your selection of products worked perfectly."
The end result was amazing and it was completed on time and close to budget (we made some changes along the way).
Bottom line, we would not hesitate to used this company again, nor would we hesitate in recommending this company to anyone interested in doing any construction or redesign. This company uses quality vendors that supplied us with the high end finishes we wanted for our bathroom remodel. They were helpful in helping us sort out the hundreds of choices out there on the market.
Promptness, kept to the schedule, professional crew, professional project manager, flexible and responsive are the key words I would use to sum up this company.
"Awesome Review: Thank you so much!"
The designer/salesman Rob was very responsive and did a very thorough estimate.
The Project Manager Keith had caught an issue with the design, and corrected it before the contract was finalized. (Designer undersized cabinets.) He also resolved issues directly with a broken shower faucet and a lighting sconce the electrician broke. This was very nice that it was not put back on the owner to get the replacement parts.
Other than two small change requests that we agreed on during the build-out, the end cost met the estimate. Project took 6.5 weeks from the time work started.
The finished bathroom looks fabulous. Quality of the cabinets is good and the tile work looks great!
Opportunities -
Designer did not offer anything in the way of design services. We had to dictate every step, and I even caught some of the design issues myself after getting out a measuring tape and seeing that he had the mirror and electrical outlets over lapping. Project Manager caught another in that he had a small cabinet (18 inches) above the toilet, rather than taking the cabinet wall to wall. Unfortunately I did not catch one of the major design flaws - the dual sinks in the vanity were not properly center. One sink only has 3 inches of clearance to the wall, while the other has 8 inches. This should have been caught by the designer, owner, installer, project manager, or me. It looks awkward and makes the sink difficult to use. This is my only issue with the final product. The rest of the layout is great.
The installer was argumentative and less than professional. He started off great, friendly, worked hard. However he was sloppy and did not treat our house with care. Examples - flooded our downstairs, washed out his tools in a spare bathroom getting grout/morter everywhere, stained a carpet in a room he was asked multiple times NOT to go into, argued when we pointed out a poor tile job (uneven grout lines, some tiles higher than others), put wet boxes on our hard wood floors, did not put all of the demo'd materials into the dumpster (left on the side of our house) and had all of his tools spread out across our master bedroom for 5 weeks - nothing like a plugged in air-compressor going off in the middle of the night. The Project Manager was afraid to confront him as he didn't want to 'disturb' the current work/project.
Seemed like there was no one doing quality checks as we had to call the PM in to show him each of these things. When we did this, the items we pointed out were corrected...for the most part.
Before we signed the contract, we spoke to the owner about how important it was to us to be kept informed as to working days and milestone dates because we both work and would not be at home during most of the construction. We also have pets that needed to be put away on days that the workers would be there. We were assured multiple times that our Project Manager would fill this role and be on top of everything. This did not happen. The project manager rarely came on site (and if he did, I have bigger concerns about the issues he overlooked), and I was unable to ever get a schedule from him. Most I would get were updates such as "tile will be done in next week". When I brought this up to him, he denied it and was arguing back until i said that I said that i keep all of my emails and texts and have my constant requests for a schedule in writing with no response back from him.
I could look past the first few weeks of issues and mistakes, but as the issues continued and always the initial response was "not our fault", and i could never get a schedule, I cannot recommend them and would not use again. If a daily schedule is not important, and you are onsite to constantly review the quality of the work, then maybe they would work better for you.
"Obviously this review was less than flattering. I only hope that people are able to read between the lines to see that the end result was a good quality job for a good price. We wish that every job would go perfectly smooth, but unfortunately that is not always the case. When our clients are working, they do not always see the project manager during each and every visit to the home, but he is in fact on every project a minimum of twice per week. There is no excuse for and untidy job site. This particular crew leader is one of six and has consequently been put on probation as a result of this particular project. He has already shown great improvement with the cleanliness of his current job site. We except this feedback as a learning opportunity. The satisfaction of our clients is our highest priority. Please read many of the other glowing reviews that we have posted on the site or see our work firsthand through pictures that we have posted at www.averyconstruction.com along with the many other positive reviews that we have on Facebook.com or linked in.com"
"Thank you for your business. What an amazing transformation. You can see pictures of our work at www.facebook.com/averyconstructiondesignconsultinginc We also very much appreciate that this client has referred us to others."
"Another amazing kitchen remodel, including our custom cabinetry and granite. It all started with a Free Estimate and a 3-Deminsional Computer Design. Please visit our website at [removed hyper link]"
"High-rise Beach Condo's are always challenging as they have limited work hours and lots of going up and down in an elevator, but you can't beat the view. This unit is now so beautiful that we have now included it into many of our other advertising pieces. Check out our work a [hyperlink removed]"
On the whole, they did a really great job. I would definitely use them again if needed.
"It was a great pleasure to work with these clients. This member has excellent taste in her color selections. You can see pictures of this project and others at www.facebook.com/averyconstructiondesignconsultinginc Besides the complete kitchen remodel, we were also able to assist them with cabinets and granite throughout 3 of their bathrooms. The member's husband is in the business of selling luxury boats if ever you are in the market, Avery Construction would be happy to facilitate the referral."
The wood flooring was looking old and tired, and Avery Construction Design Consulting had done work for us before. We were happy with their work and in fact, we have referred others to them. So of course we called them again.
They check in frequently to be sure we are happy, and if we have any issue at all, they are quick to fix it.
Our flooring looks great. The guys who did the work were excellent...very careful to get it right. I have seen a lot of bad tile jobs, and this isn't one of them.
Avery Construction had tiled for us before, different rooms. The job was great, and I was hoping to get the same guys. I was a little nervous when they sent different guys, but they assured us these guys were excellent too, and they were correct.
I will say that the guys were not always at our home when we expected them, so we had miscommunication there. But when we called, it was corrected and all was well.
So that's how it went. A professional job, and we are happy. We will use them again, and will continue to refer them.
"It was a pleasure to work with you again [removed member name]. Thank you for the nice words. Note to Consumers: If ever you are in need a of a great realtor in Hillsborough County, [removed member name] of Remax is one of the best of the best. Please call Avery Construction anytime for a direct referral to her."
"Thank you for the opportunity to earn your business."
we saw their display at Tampa Home Show and were impressed. We put in a request for an estimate. They called about two weeks later to set up an appointment. The guy came we discussed what we were looking at for a kitchen remodel. We also stated that we wanted two bathrooms remodeled. After discussing the kitchen he wrote out an estimate with a reasonable price before he left. This took place in August. In mid to late December we got a call from the company asking us if we wanted to proceed with the job.
Since there was no follow-up and the estimate was only for the kitchen we decided not to proceed.
"It seams ridiculous that we should even have to respond to this as we find no record of ever even meeting this person, but here we go. When we go to a Home Show, we take in 60-80 requests for estimates, so it does take us a couple weeks to get your "Free Estimate" scheduled. Unlike others who say that they will give back to you later with an estimate, we actually give you itemized pricing, within ranges, on the spot, on the very first visit to your home. If you are interested in hearing more, we then schedule a 2nd visit with you to begin designs which will help us narrow the wide price range into something more specific. Gordon obviously never booked a 2nd visit. We don't do pressure sales by constantly calling, but we are very available by phone or internet to those want to buy from us. Again, by Gordon's own words, a single follow up call was made, months later, to see if there was still an interest or if he should be taken off the list. It would be very unfair to allow us to be negatively judged by a person who never hired us to do any work, nor ever invited us back out to complete the design process which would be necessary in order to complete an accurate estimate anyway. Angie's List should remove this man's remarks from their records."
"Thank you for the kind words and fair criticisms. We strive to provide a good experience during an uncomfortable process. Please see pictures of our work at AveryConstruction.com or check us out on Facebook."
We also had a leaking deck on my 2nd floor above the room with the mold. This was probably the cause of the mold - - - but they had to strip off the old deck & wrap around some kind of flooring that will make it so it won't leak in the future. While doing this, they had to remove my old railing (which was about to fall down anyway) - and replace the railing around my 2nd floor deck.
We also had some minor other things that needed to be fixed according to my insurance company. I had just switched insurance companies - and after I signed on the dotted line, they came back to me with a laundry list of things that needed to be done in 2 weeks. Avery Construction was able to fit me in so that I was not cancelled by my insurance company. I am so thankful they were able to get it all done in the short time frame the insurance company gave me! This included a handrail be added to my deck that ran the length of my house - as well as a handrail being added to the steps of a storage shed because It has more than 3 steps up to it. Avery was able to make this all happen when other companies wouldn't have been able to get around to my job until a few weeks past my deadline.
They also had to replace some of the T-11 (siding) around my house. My lawn guys had let the vines grow a little too much on my house. When we had that all removed (per the request of the insurance company) - we learned that some of the vines had somehow gotten behind the T-11 & were pushing it out from the house - causing it to decay & create a possible leak situation. Avery removed the damaged T-11 & replaced what was needed.
I had full faith in their crew. Even gave them a key to my house & moved out while all of this was being done. It took almost 3 weeks for everything to be completed. I could have moved back in at the half way point - but I figured it was easier for them to work without me there. I'm usually very over protective of my house - always turing on the alarm when I get home & as I leave - but with Avery Construction, I felt I could trust them with everything & not have to worry about a thing. I feel so lucky to have found them - and to have them guiding me through this process that was not something I had planned to do right away. They were able to turn what should have been a negative experience - into a positive. I love my living room now - more than I did before! Laying the tile & painting the walls a color - totally opened up the room & I actually enjoy sitting in there more now than I did before. Everything happens for a reason - as long as you have the right people on your side. I feel very lucky to have had Avery Construction on my side & will for sure use them for other projects as well! :)
"We appreciate the kind words. We have grown to keep about 12 men working full time which gives us more flexibility in our scheduling to better accommodate our customers and avoid any delays. Please check out pictures of our work at: www.AveryConstruction.com"
Demolition began at the beginning of 2013. Right off the bat, the city required we bring the house to code with adding a hardwired smoke detector system. Jason said it wouldn?t be a problem, maybe a couple of hundred dollars. It ended up costing an extra $988 before the demolition ever started. That code should have been known in the planning phase. A lack of the local building codes will be a recurrent theme throughout the whole process. We were told it should take 5 weeks with as long as 8 weeks.
Demolition started on the 7th or 8th of January. Demolition went without incident and the job started off ahead of schedule with Joe Palmer doing the demo and most of the construction throughout. I was able to be there for the initial framing of the new walls and realized that the walls were not going to work with the flow of the house. Joe gave some recommendations and we ended up doing a change order to make the house flow better. With the changes, it was pretty much a wash with taking out walls and cabinets in some places, and adding a pantry. It was a great idea from Joe. Throughout the whole process, Joe was always upfront with me and never gave me the run around and often added his opinion to things that we sometimes went with, sometimes didn?t. The first of several short comings arose when the electricians (Theta Electric) came to do rough in on the new electrical install and noted that the current service box was not able to handle the added appliances and would not pass inspection. My choices were to add a new service panel at $1400 or add a supplemental box for about half the price. I opted to install the new service panel and was able to get it for $1200. I feel that is another thing that should have been caught in the planning and budgeting process.
Demo and rough in went on as planned and on or ahead of schedule. The second payment was supposed to be paid after initial inspections were completed and passed. Jason asked for the payment early and since he said all was going well and on time, I felt ok paying him before the inspections were completed. I paid him via wire transfer on the 24th of January since I was traveling, and I was unable to be there to verify the work and give him a check. On the 29th, I made contact with him assuming that drywall should be installed that day and all was good. He text me back saying that the HVAC and plumbing did not pass inspection. Furthermore, the inspector stated that because of the large CFM of the exhaust hood (1100cfm) a makeup air system had to be installed. I was not aware of such a system so I asked how much that was going to be. Jason quoted me that the makeup air system is a fresh air system that is tied into the existing air conditioning system and that the whole system would be $6000-$8000 extra. I asked that they show me the code and why he didn?t know about it back in December when we were going over plans and budgets. I ordered all work to stop until I got a definite answer from the inspector himself, to see what was required. The inspection was failed somewhere around 19 Jan. I didn?t hear about the makeup air until 29 Jan. I expected Jason to get an answer immediately since he was more worried about the time line than I was.
On February 6th, after I made at least 3 calls to the inspectors office, I was finally able to speak with the inspector and get the answer. The final answer was that the $6000-8000 conditioned makeup air was not required, and in fact was not recommended. A makeup air system venting to the outside directly was the requirement and recommendation. This was the 3rd example of a lack of the building codes knowledge when installing a high CFM hood in higher end kitchens. Once I found the solution, he asked when I would have the makeup air valve at the house to have it installed. I was not going to order it until I got a quote for how much the install was going to be. After 3 more days of waiting, I got a quote of $875 for the install. I ordered the valve for $199, and it arrived sometime around the 16 or 17th of Feb, roughly 28 days since he knew of the makeup air requirement. As it turns out, the building codes were updated in March of 2011, a year before this install. The extra overages now over $3000 from initial planning, I had to make the decision to change the tile plan from a prepped slab, zero grout line floor to an 1/8 grout line saving me $1200 of overages.
On the 12th of February, Jason was once again asking for the 3rd installment. Keep in mind that at this point, the rough in inspections (1st milestone) are not complete yet. I reminded Jason of that fact and told him since work has been done, I am willing to pay half of the 3rd installment and the rest when the inspections were complete. For the whole time, Jason was at times difficult to get in touch with unless he was looking for payments even before the contractual agreements. Painting and inspections are finally completed and he is paid per the contract.
The tile floor install was the next phase of the rehab that was going to take about 7 days. We elected to use a 20? rectified porcelain tile. The slab of the house was known to have imperfections, but I was told by Jason, the tile installer and the tile salesman that the prepped/leveled slab would not be necessary. The owner of the tile company and the installer stopped by the house and we went over the floor and the layout of the tiles. I asked if a staggered layout was too difficult given the condition of the slab and the answer was ?No. It won?t be a problem.? The tile installer started on a Monday and from the beginning I thought the installer was rushing the job. Joe even mentioned that the installer was rushing. From an inexperienced eye, I could tell that the tiles were not level. I was told that once the grout is in I wouldn?t be able to tell. Well, the job was finished and the tile looked horrible. There were no less than 100 tiles that were either broken, hollow, or so out of level, that you could kick the edges with your feet (kickers). When the sun shined on the floor, large shadows would accentuate the unlevel tiles. Along with the unlevel tiles, the first line of tiles set were 1.25 inches off of square, which put the whole entire floor 1.25 inches off around the whole house where tile was installed. The tile installer came back and fixed most of the un-level tiles, but left many. I had to cover the tiles that was fixed with the overages from the tile purchase that I was going to return to the store. Two more boxes of tile were purchased by Jason. I was not reimbursed for the tile that was used, which I feel that since it was a sub-contractor shoddy workmanship, I should not have had to pay for the tile. The cabinet frames were installed and I noticed that the tile under the island is out of square. At this point it was too late and too expensive to fix the tile floor by
Jason also connected me with a granite provider and reliable tile distributor. There are many decisions to be made when you undertake a project of this magnitude. Besides the tile and granite, there are fixtures (e.g. towel rack, faucets, shower head, etc.), lighting, cabinetry, etc., but Jason gave me a clear and detailed list, as well as advice on where to look for each item.
With any project this size, there will be some unexpected glitches. With me, it was the shower door. The original door delivered was not the right size, but the glass contractor admitted the mistake, took full responsibility, and reordered the door and rescheduled the installation in as timely a manner as I could have expected. There was some other minor details to attend do after the majority of the work was done, but John took care of all of those in less than half a day.
Responsibility, professionalism, quality, and reliability - that sums up Avery Construction. Yes, it's going to be more expensive to use Jason than his competitors, but I have learned as a homeowner, the hard way sometimes, that you get what you pay for. Pay for Jason & team. They are worth it.
"Please also visit our website at [removed website] or call today for your free estimate by dialing, toll free: 855-HIS-WORK"
The hardworking construction crew did excellent work, paying close attention to detail and accuracy. Any glitches that occurred were resolved promptly and courteously. I was very concerned that my existing tile floor would suffer damage during the process, but they exercised due care and no tiles were broken.
Mr. Avery was readily available via phone and immediately responsive to any concerns or problems we expressed. The work was completed in 6 weeks, exactly as estimated prior to commencement.
My only negative comment would be that there were a few days when I was not told that workers were scheduled for another job site and would not be coming.
The kitchen is absolutely beautiful and the family room wall looks like it was part of the original building plan. This is a very professional, ethical company to deal with. My husband and I are very pleased with the final product.

NO NEGATIVES.
Jason and I both text a lot, so we stayed in touch all the way through the process. All of his "subs" are very courteous and clean, excellent "bedside manner" so to speak.
I texted him each time new ones came in to tell him (Jason) how they were doing, and he liked the feedback...but it was all good! They were so careful not to "mess up" my house as they went along, and they would come to ask my opinion on things, to be sure what they did was to my liking. (How's THAT for customer service?!)
I came around the corner one day, and the man who had put in new lighting in the upstairs bathroom was vacuuming down my stairs! (He was even using his own vacuum cleaner.) Of course I texted that to Jason, and told him how much I appreciated it. He texted back that he expected his guys to be very clean, that he always tells them to be very careful and treat people's home like they would treat their own home, or even better.
My home was built in the early 90's, and it was due for some modernization. It now looks so much better, and Jason Avery's
subcontractors are very talented. They sure got the job done right. Another thing: they are on time. They show up when they are supposed to. That doesn't happen every day with people working in your home, and everyone knows that. But with Jason Avery's subs, it did.
JASON AVERY CONSTRUCTION is one I would refer to anyone without hesitation. Jason is a true professional who understood my concerns from Day 1, quoted me a price that seemed fair, and got right to the job. He checked in frequently to be sure everything was being done correctly and that I was happy, which I always was.
Jason is honest and fair, and reachable any time I would call or text him with a question or concern.
I will repeat again in those same two words, the experience I had with Jason Avery Construction on the fairly extensive remodel on my home: NO NEGATIVES.
I have to say more than that: ALL POSITIVES.
THANK YOU JASON. I'm glad I ran into you at the home show in Tampa a couple years ago.
"Thank you so much for your kind words. The key to our success in this business is all about communicating honestly and often."
