HORRIBLE! See above.
Description of Work: A CAUTIONARY TALE: In July of 2012, for a routine servicing, they told me I needed a new a/c unit. Stupid me, I believed them. That cost $8,000.00. It is a split system 5 ton Frigidaire unit with a unit on the outside and a unit on the inside off the garage. On January 8, 2013, they came to inspect the entire system (that they installed) and said they found no safety equipment on the outside unit and "strongly recommended" a storm kit with surge protection for $385. On June 5, 2013, they found system "full of condensation; system is back flushing." Technician said we "needed" a dehumidifier kit that would take care of the condensation for $2162.40. September 13, 2013 A/C not working. Direct Heating came to service and said system "very" low on RHIDA Gas (better known as Freon). They found the coil is leaking gas; also bottom of cabinet is flooded with water. They then said we needed to have installed an Ait Handler, 6 lbs of Freon, dual UV lights, re-insulate the cabinet, mastic seal the ducts and a couple other things, which cost $2450.00. Coils replaced inside and outside under warranty. Sept. 17, 2013 a/c not working, called Direct. "found unit under charged; inspected for leaks which were found in the weld." Repaired and recharged at no cost. September 26, 2013, neighbor who watched house for me, said she found a puddle of the floor of the garage and there was ice on the coils again. Told direct to get out of my house and never come back. It is September 30 and I have no air conditioning in the Marco Island heat. Have had to call someone else and do not know what that will cost to have it all fixed. I've been told by two different A/C companies that the unit is a mess; we were taken advantage of; "the entire unit is contaminated.

Description of Work: I just received a call from Direct Heating and Air offering a 1/2 price cleaning special. I DID NOT hire them (and never have), but told them that we don't have any work done by anyone, without checking with Angie's List. "Beth" said, "Just a minute, let me ask." Then to someone else she asked, "Are we on Angie's List?" I heard the woman tell her, "No". Beth then told me that they WERE NOT on Angie's List. That lie is what resulted in this comment. Of course they are on Angie's List...with, as of today's date and time, one "C" and the rest of the comments "F".

I wanted a price for a split system full replacement. My sister told me about this company. I got a price on an energy efficient unit. The price was right around the same as the home depot. I didn't like that I wasn't told it was GE moneybank. I gave them a $2000 deposit. After he left I started reading the contract. He sold me some add ons afterwards. The contract that they gave me said that if I cancel I would have to pay for the equipment ordered. He told me that I didn't need a new thermostat, but on the contract it was on there for $150! The thermostat is in the box and I don't want it. The contract is not clear. They also charged me for a surge protector for $180. As soon as I qualified for credit they seemed to want to sell me everything that they could! I don't like the way this happened. I think they have a bad sales process. It all felt very shady to me. They were late on the initial appointment. They said they would come over between 9 am and 12 pm. They didn't call until after 12 pm.
Description of Work: I had them come out yesterday for an estimate.

They were rude, did things that didn't need to be done, and they took advantage of us. They tried to get us to have them do things that were not needed.

They are horrible. How can you go through 3 units in 7 years, when the original one lasted 7 years. Do not use them.
Description of Work: Our house was built in 1996, only 14 years old. In 2003 we had them replace our first air conditioner. We kept having problems with it and in 2006, 3 years later they replaced it again. We still had problems. Two new air-conditioners and over $8,000. and now it is 2011 and in 2010, we started having problems again and were told by another company, we will either have to spend another $850.00 to fix it or buy a new one.

Everytime they came out another 500 to 1000 dollars. Had a liscensed FAMILY friend (PARKERAIRE, VERY HONEST) go up again yesterday (7/2010) and he found evidence of pipes not being glued so that they would leak and I would have to call someone out and this has happened on three occasions. I also found out that the men who come on service calls are paid only 5.00$ unless they sell you something, hence the enormous bills everytime they came out to "check" the system. I could also add that several of the techs tried to get me to hire them under the table. I refuse to allow direct heating into my house ever again. I warn you to never deal with this company the work is sub-par and the poor techs are ripped off and turned into thieves by this company.
Description of Work: Replaced entire A/C system,

As I stated above, I strongly suggest you do not do business with Direct Heating and Cooling, and highly recommend Honest Air and N&M Cool Today! In addition to filing this report on Angies List, I have contacted the Frigidaire Corporation, and filed a potential fraud report with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Department. i will also be filing a complaint with the Better business Bureau.
Description of Work: Thankfully I smelled a rat and sought a second and third opinion. Direct Heating and Cooling representatives told us our 2 year old A/C unit needed the following service and repairs. Replace filter and UV bulbs. They also told us the air handler insulation was "totally saturated and full of mold", and needed to be removed treated, and replaced. Thier estimate was just under $2200. The two other companies(Honest Air and N&M Cool Today) concurred with Direct Heating and Cooling regarding the filter replacement. However, they also found out the UV bulbs were not burnt out, but that Direct techs had simply turned off the switch. The air handler was bone dry and showed no signs of mold! The Direct Air techs also pointed an infrared temperature sensor at one of our vents and told us the "78" on the meter was a "mold count"! These guys are frauds and scammers! Do NOT let them near your home! The actual needed service and repairs were completed by Honest Air for $107! I would like to point out that even though N&M Cool Today knew they were only coming here for another opinion, they did so promptly and with out charge.

While the initial evaluation was done, I had a question about a float switch on the unit. The worker found that it was not properly wired and rewired it. It took about 10 minutes. He also checked the outside unit and sprayed some duct sanitizer in the system. I was told that my inside air handling unit needed to have a "pull and clean" done on the core. He stated that the colis were in terrible shape and would need to be "regalvinized". Also that I had a problem with mold buildup and would need an infra red light in the system. The estimated cost was $1,850. When I called to cancel the contract I was told that I could not, since the servicemen were "on their way" to my home. I responded that I would not let them in. I was then told that the system was in dire need of this service and that I should reconsider. I was also told that I would have to pay $679 for the work completed on the day of the system evaluation. I questioned what had been done and why it was so expensive. The dominant charge was $385 for the duct sanitizing. The work on the float switch was $160. I was told it was $80 for the part and $80 for an hour of labor. I argued that no part was replaced, and the adamant, arrogant and unprofessional person on the other end of the line insisted. I insisted on speaking to the finance manager. I was later told that the $80 charge for a new part was an error and that I still owed $599. I objected to the high cost for the duct sanitizing, and was told that this is a standard charge. I also complained aboput the $1,850 estimate, and was told that the light installation alone was $1,250. I stated that I still wanted to cancel the job and was told that I needed to pay the $599. I was also told that the contract that I signed included a clause that I would be responsible for any collection or legal costs associated with this contract upon cancellation. Bottom line is that any company with that much legalese on their contract must have a lot of problems with cancellations and collection on their inflated charges. I contact a highly rated provider for estimates and was told that the light would be $495 and that a "pull and clean" on the core would be $531. After completing the work, the repairman told me, "the core cleaned up very nicely--the coils are in great shape" There was no talk of "regalvinizing". I signed on with this company (Kobie, a 5 star contractor on Angies List). They did an excellent job, and I also signed up with them for a 3 year service contract.
Description of Work: This is the worst kind of "bait and switch" company. What was advertised (in a cold call) as a $39.95 air conditioning annual inspection and servicing balooned to a $599 nightmare! I signed a contract, (without carefully reading the small print--my bad) and the work was scheduled for the next day. A cleaning and reconditioning of the unit was needed. I the read the contract carefully, and noticed that it contained a clause stating that if I cancelled the job, I would have to pay for any work already done. I then looked up the company on line and found nothing but complaints.

Once unit installed it did not pass city inspection twice, finally fixed after month of delay. Had other service provider go into garage attic for other non-related work and he noticed pooling of water on condenser unit. Called Direct and they came out and indicated ducting needed replaced to fix pooling - for a bargain price of additional $4,000. Why didn't they get that right first time? Now unit is having fault code due to it operating in a "salt air" environment - Direct indicates that salt air will void warranty unless put additional unit in for $4000. Do not even think about using these people - they are at best incompetent if not downright dishonest.
Description of Work: Replaced a non functional AC unit with a 21 SEER unit with a 10 year service "guarantee".

I would suggest nobody use them. We made at least a dozen calls to them to rectify this, but they never returned our calls. They don't care about our business.
Description of Work: We bought a new air conditioning unit. Some additional duct work had to be done because the old unit wouldn't match up with the new unit. They broke the piping inside the wall. We called and told them it wasn't working properly. They came out and told us that to fix it we would need to rewrap all the duct work in our attic. They charged us an extra $1,200.00 and never fixed the broke pipe. They claim they didn't break it.
