I have a contract with ECM. Our air conditioner is out on Sunday. They do not send out repair person on the weekend for emergency service if you have a contract. Two weeks ago I spent $199.00 for a contract that states they have 24/7 emergency service which they do not honor. Please don't use this company. It's a rip off.
Response from East Coast Mechanical

"Mr. [member name removed] held an ECM Bronze Level A/C Maintenance Plan. The terms and conditions of the contract plan indicate that "service is provided during normal business hours, Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm." The terms also provide that "service will be based upon the level of priority, service demand and the availability of technicians." Mr. [member name removed] contacted ECM on a Sunday at 2pm in the afternoon. Although emergency service is available after business hours at overtime rates, emergency service is only available based on ECM's available technicians which are provided based on demand for service. On Sunday, April 21, 2013, most of the Greater West Palm Beach area was experiencing warmer than expected temperatures and as such ECM's on-call and emergency technicians were overloaded and could not respond immediately to all customers. Mr. [member name removed] was offered to have a technician scheduled for his home first thing on Monday morning and declined the offer. In researching further information from Mr. [member name removed] about his phone conversation, he indicated that the representative he spoke to did not explain the high demand/high call volume to him and that the representative made it seem that service would not be provided to him on an emergency basis because he was a contract holder. ECM regrets that members of our staff may fall short of our expectations to fully respond in clear detail to our customers especially during high pressure times so that they may understand extenuating circumstances that create a situation where we may fall short of their service expectations. Unfortunately, we cannot change the communication Mr. [member name removed] experienced, but we have counseled our representatives accordingly based on this event and we have honored Mr. [member name removed] request for a full refund of his original contract price."

Plumber (?} came back about 8 times to fix running toilet and each time he left the problem reoccurred. The company tried to be responsive, but their worker just couldn't do the job, i.e. basic toilet repair.Their plumbers (?) also do not seem to know which parts are compatible for use in each brand toilet. I ended up paying someone to come in and fix it and it turned out that the handle was sticking which they never realized. ECM refused to reimburse me even though I was under contract and had to stay home 8 times because they couldn't fix the toilet. I HAVE renewed with ECM because their other repair services have been super, and I do find them to be responsive. Their plumbing service has been a mess.

On March 5th we called ECM again ... the new contract was now in force, and asked them again check the unit and perform whatever remediation was needed.  First, their service manager, said they (ECM) had only installed the larger unit; I had to remind him more than once that in fact they had installed BOTH units on the same day in 2009; he checked his records and said 'oh yes,'  (It appears that since the 'problem' was with the smaller unit he was trying to 'pass' the blame). Anyway, when we called back on March 5th, the service manager said that once they corrected the freon level, we would still need to pay $287 to determine the cause of the leak (because that was not covered under the contract )+ whatever $$ it would cost to repair.  I got really angry ... and told them to CANCEL THE CONTRACT IMMEDIATELY.  The service manager said he could not do that, he would need to transfer the call.  He then transferred the call to someone who could not help me, because she only worked with new contracts - not renewals!!  She, however, was helpful ... I asked, and she told me what I needed to do and gave me an e-mail address.  I sent ECM a request to cancel our contract immediately.  Later the next day, we received a 'phone call that the contract had been cancelled and a refund would be mailed out ... of course they deducted more than $50 for the time the contract was in effect -  about 2 weeks, assuming the renewal was made to be effective on February 20th.
We then checked ANGIE's List and called one of the companies listed.  We did not mention ECM, but we did tell them that someone else thought the freon level in the smaller unit may be low; so that they would pay particular atrtention to the freon levels.  The new company came, checked both units,  and said the freon level in both units was fine. The problem was a dirty filter that needed to be changed in the smaller unit!!!  (Negligence on our part - we tend to forget to change the filter in that unit).  The cost of this second company?  Less than $120!
Was the ECM technician incompetent?  Are their technicians paid based on the revenue they can generate?  Or, was this an attempt to 'gouge' us?  Whatever the reason, this is one company that we will NEVER, EVER, EVER use again.

I had a replacement contract for large appliances with ECM.   I had a leak going from my utility room to the garage.  I thought it might be the waste water pipe from the washing machine to the outside.   The "technician" came as told me I had a washing machine that is know for having a leaky drum.  I bought the machine last year.   I asked how that could be the cause of the leak because there was no leakage on the floor of the utility room.  I explained that I had towels on the floor during the leaking and they were always dry and no water was ever found on the floor of the utility room., which would have been evident had there been a leak in the drum. He insisted that I just didn't see the leak.  He then suggested that the company pick up the machine and replace the drum.  Having a contract, I assumed the cost would be covered.  He said it would cost $200.   When I asked why, he stated that drum wasn't covered in my contract.
I finally found a plumber who found the leak in a pipe under the wall between my utility room and garage.   My cost was $300.
I called ECM and asked them if they would have refunded me the cost of repairing a drum that didn't need repair.   They declined to answer and I cancelled my contract.

I have mixed emotions.  For that routine maintenance, I had called them when it was in-season in Florida and they could not give me any kind of reasonable time to get that service done.  I couldn't get an appointment for months and I had to make special arrangements to have someone at the house.  I have tried to call the owners on other contract issues before and they are very unapproachable, standoffish and rigid.  I'm hedging having to use this provider again because of these contract issues.

On June 12, we got home from work at 5 PM and the temperature was around 82 degrees in the house. We went on Angies list and found East Coast Mechanical (ECM), we called them and the said they would be at our house by 7:15. The repair person arrived before the 7:15 and looked at our unit. The A/C unit was clogged. He cleared it out and gave us several recommendations.  We paid the bill of $152.One recommendation was a service contract to cover all appliances, air conditioning unit, water heater, plumbing, outlets, etc for $482/year.  We received a quote via email and US Mail which we accepted.  We call ECM and paid by debit card over the phone for the first year on June 29th.On July 25th the same thing happened 5:00 85 degrees, so we called ECM since we were under contract (we never received an Offical Contract - only a Contract marked Quote at the top).  When we call for service we were told that the they would get someone to our house between 2 and 6 the next day. So with ECM when you are paying for a service they come right away, when you have a contract you need to wait a day.  We called another company and they come that night! We cancelled the contract that we had for about a month, they would only issue the credit $395.34, and we still never received a copy of our contract!

I notice many less than favorable reviews listed here for ECM and find it puzzling.  I can say that I have used ECM for my a/c needs since moving to Wellington and purchasing a 3000 sq foot home in 2007. I could not be more satisfied with their service.  Initially I used ECM to service a 5 ton main unit (12 years old) and a 2 ton master bedroom unit (6 years old).  I have had service calls on 4 occasions  for reasons such as a broken thermostat as well as a capacitor replacement on main unit.  I also purchased the service plan for one year for both units.  Each service call was covered 100% for labor and parts.  Recently I returned from a trip to find my main a/c was not cycling on.  I found that it would keep tripping the circuit breaker.  The unit was old and I suspected it would be related to the compressor.  After a visit from ECM tech it was determined the compressor was bad.  We could have replaced it but for a 12 year old unit, I elected to install a complete Lennox 5 ton unit and air handler.
The service crew showed up 2 days later at 10 AM and the job was completed at 7 PM.  I have immediately noticed a 50% decrease in my electric bill (just received new bill from FPL representing a month with 2 weeks of new a/c usage).  I can imagine the amount of energy the old system was using.  This system cools the house quickly, efficiently and quietly.  I can barely hear the compressor running.  (and my guests are pleased as well, since the main compressor is near the guest suite, now the noise does not keep guests up at night).
I highly recommend ECM based on my personal experience.

The overall experience was extremely painful.  I paid top dollar for a high-end a/c unit and never received a proper installation.  Because the communication wire was never replaced during the installation, ECM came out to diagnose the problem five or six times and never fixed the problem.  I was in the navy for 25 years working with electronics and we had a saying, "if you have the time to do the job over, you have the time to do the job right in the first place."
Here's a few direct quotes from ECM's "Customer Bill of Rights" My comments are parenthesized#3 You have the right to expect a job well done.    3a. We guarantee that the job shall be performed to code.     3b. We assure you that we will exceed all manufacturer's specifications.#4 You have the right to expect total performance.      We guarantee that your new system will perform exactly as we promised.#5. You have the right to expect peace of mind    5b. We guarantee that your new system will perform to your total satisfaction no matter what.
ECM advertises as "the company that cares."  My experience with ECM is they are the company that cares less.

I did not renew my contract with this company.Their service people were impolite, disagreeable, argumentative, resentful and in one case, refused to do my job and walked out.My complaints usually brought no response but, in one case, I got a phone call saying "We'll look into it."  In another case, I received a written apology from a department head.

Since I wanted to be sure their price for a new unit was competitive I called a few other companies.  The first one who came said that the unit COULD be fixed and charged $100 to repair it.  That was a few weeks ago and the unit has been working perfectly well since then.  My wife called ECM and told them what had happened and that we expected them to refund the $100 we had to pay someone else to fix something that was covered by our contract.  On Friday my wife received a call to say that ECM have decided to cancel our contract and will be refunding the balance on our premium.  Normally I would argue, but having experienced their questionable behavior, I actually don't want to ever do business with them again.

When they came out to work on appliances they would always come up with something for why the appliance could not be fixed.  They were here at least 10 times to fix our dishwasher.  They were going to replace another part until I read online about the problems with this typ of dishwasher.  Once I asked about a buy out for the dishwasher they offered me $300.00.  Ended up buying a new diswhasher.  After that they dropped us from their service because they said they weren't making any money coming to our house.

I had to call them several times for quite a few things. My garbage disposal broke and they replaced it with a new one like the contract stated. My oven panel stoped working, they also replaced that with no hassel. I also had plumbing issues several times which were all taken care of. This was a great service to have because all my problems were teaken care of free of charge with just a phone call.

The only negative I can say is sometimes they take a few days to come out and fix the problem. But other then that no complaints, they honored our contract. I would have no problem getting a contract with them again.

They do service contract to your appliances.  They do a lot and lot of work down here.  Their offices are all over the place.  The people that they send out are usually reasonably competent but not always.  We have an annual contract with them and it covers everything.  They just come out to fix it.  Their price is fine.  Most of the people that they send out are good but sometimes not so much.  Then you have to phone them and ask them to send somebody else.  They are very convenient.

In the heat of the summer my air conditioner went and they sent this kid out and it was a reasonable price.  It was on a Thursday and just before the weekend.  It was summer and in south Florida it is a hard condition.  They told us that they won’t be able to check it till Monday but they would be able to put in a new air conditioner the next day. He checked it without using any testers and he said it was warm. They said my sand motor was gone and I needed a new one. He said it would cost $400 and he didn’t tell me it would be more than $400. I called for a second opinion and a guy came in and put a $20 part and it was fine. I called them and told them about it and said that maybe you sent one of your new guys which was why he didn’t know but they told me that he was one of their best guys and he was working with them for 6 years. The guy I hired was someone who is not in this business but he is licensed.  His job is to take care of about 180 business condos.  He is licensed and he knows what he is doing.  He came out and put it in.  They told me that it could have been that he put the condenser and sand and that might go any minute.  My heater and AC has been fine for the last 6 months and that too for $20 part that was put in and I paid $65 for the whole visit.  I think this is senior abuse and they were not even apologetic and they told me that if I had gone to a competitive company and got it done for cheaper they would have refunded it but because the guy I hired didn't have a rated service like they do they cant give me a refund. I was very unimpressed and I think it was a scam.   I want people to know that you can’t trust these guys and it is not about my $45. If you don’t have a service contract then it would create a problem because when you call them they will tell you that they cant find the parts and you got to read the finer print. The other guy was able to get the part on a Saturday and before I realized it the air conditioner went on. I didn’t know anything about condensers before this.    5/12/2015 AFTER MORE THAN 3 YEARS, THE A/C THEY SAID NEEDED REPLACING IS STILL WORKING FINE!
