Description of Work: Rome installed a whole new A/C unit and a GPS air purifier connected to it. We hired them because they carry this GPS. Description of Work: I am taking care of my son's condo while he is in the military stationed in the middle east. I had used RomeAire for routine maintenance and repair on the A/C unit in his condo for a couple of years. While their service began great, it had somewhat declined over time. On the last service call on the old A/C unit, the tech actually worked on the wrong unit on the roof for awhile even though he was told where our compressor was located! This report is based on the installation of a new A/C system, outside compressor and indoor air handler, on the above date. First, while all written and spoken estimates referred to a Rheem A/C unit, when the actual equipment arrived it turned out to be a Rudd unit. RomeAire insisted that they where the exact same unit, made in the same factory, but could not explain why Consumer Reports rated Rheem and Rudd separately, and in fact, gave a lower rating to Rudd. I pointed out that just because two products are manufactured in the same plant or made by the same manufacturer does not mean they are of equal quality. (Take Corolla and Lexus for example.) I felt I should have been told from the beginning which unit I would receive, and felt this last minute substitution was not professional. RomeAire offered to change the Rudd logo on the air handler with a Rheem logo. The actual installation took the entire day. Any question I had for the installer was met with exasperation and only begrudgingly answered. I noted that he seemed to have a difficult time inserting the air filter into the air handler. This concerned me as I would need to service this permanent filter every month. The installer insisted that the filter went in fine and he had no time to further check it. I asked for the dimension of the air filter and he gave me what turned out to be incorrect dimensions. I had to call Rudd Corp directly to get the correct dimensions. RomeAire said they would supply an additional filter and re-check the installation in about a month. It is now almost four months and nothing has happened. When I went to service the permanent filter, it would not come out without breaking. I had to replace it with a disposable filter which, while the correct size, took 20 minutes to put in because of binding somewhere along the interior track. RomeAire is a typical south Florida A/C contractor.
