He explained that sometimes that toilet tissue that has clogged the system breaks down and allows the drains to work properly. He said that he would not charge me for the visit since he had not performed any service. Additionally, he used his time while waiting to see if the shower would drain properly to check our water heater. I had a coupon for a free water heater check from Angie's and they honored it. Very nice guy, prompt service, and I so appreciated the freebie!
No problems since his visit.

Very straight forward. Professional young man met me at the door came in and assessed the job and went right to work. Was able to replace the stops with some difficulty due to the age of the fixtures but well done non the less. Replaced the fixtures without further difficulty, cleaned the work area, prepared the statement, done.

I called around noon, they were very nice and said they would be there between 3 and 6. He arrived about 4.  I had already changed the thermocoupler and cleaned the burner which was what he said was about all he could do. He still pulled the burner and checked my work.  He didn't charge anything for the visit. I had the Angies coupon for a free inspection but I never had to bring it up.  He recomended Thames who came out an hour later.

I have used them for years, they are always great. They charge for the first I think 45 minutes. If they finish early, they will fix other things - just ask. They finished early for me then the guy was great - he ran & rebuilt all my outside faucets that were leaking a little. He finished within the time frame & I just paid for the extra parts. Love them.

KemkptonnI left a message with their answering service, and my call was returned within15 minutes after tehy opened. The very-pleasant woman who called informed me that they a had technician who could be at my house between 8:00 and 12:00 that morning. Within an hour she called back to say the tech (whose name I unfortunately I can not remember) was on his way. A few minutes after that she called back to say that he was at my gate, and did I have any animals that he shoudl be aware of. This was nice, because I have two dogs, one of whom is prone to leaving given the opportunity. The tech was also pleasant and professional, introduced himself and got right to work. My problem, which was a sink that had a clog deep in the plumbing of my house, was diagnosed and corrected quickly. I had been very concerned about the cost and honesty of plumbers, but Kempton's has corrected that misperception. Thanks to Angie I had a rough idea of the hourly cost to expect, and the tech was informative and efficient. I will definitely be calling Kempton's first if I have plumbing issues in the future.

Our ancient hot water heater stopped making hot water. We called our regular plumbers, The Dykehouses (father and son), but they were overwhelmed with work, so they suggested I try Kempton for same-day service. I called, a young man arrived, and showed me that the pilot light had simply gone out. He relit it, and showed me how to do so if it happened again. Very polite, very professional - didn't charge me a thing.

They are very professional.   It took several tries to figure out what was wrong with the toilet.  Finally determined that a part needed to be special ordered but the cost would have been excessive.  Decided to replace the toilet.   They installed a cleanout valve and then used a camera to determine that roots had clogged the line to the street.   They then advised replacing the  terra cotta pipe with pvc which was done.   They were careful in digging up the yard and in saving the sod and the plants.   They were very methodical in diagnosing the problem and didn't try to rush you into services or replacement that were not necessary. I would never call any other firm.

Joe was prompt, professional, answered any questions I had and gave me estimates for possible future work needed. He removed my old water heater and installed my new one.  He repaired a leak in a toilet flange as well.  I will definitely use them and request Joe again.

Two very clean and polite men arrived at 1:45 in the promised 1-4 window. They quickly snaked out the drain traps and checked each interior drain, including the washer. They left the place clean and in good order, even fixing a bad aerator on one faucet.

Saturday while doing laundry in the Utility Room, I noticed water on the floor.  It was coming from the bottom of the hot water heater--had some rust in the water so I knew it had developed a leak.  I dried the floor and put a towel around the water heater where the water was accumulating.  Monday morning I called Kempton and Self Plumbing and spoke with Shari.  She said someone could come that afternoon and then install a new hot water heater Tuesday.  I asked if anyone could possibly do the job Monday because water was getting under the tiles and I would not be available Tuesday because I was working the polls all day for the election.  Realizing my dilemma, she said she'll check with the owner's son and get back with me about whether someone could come today.  It wasn't long until she called back to say Cory, the owner's son was finishing a big job but could be at my house between 11:00-noon.  She called again when he was on the way.  He said he needed to drain the tank.  He and his helper went to lunch and stopped by a warehouse to pick up the new tank while the old one drained.  Shari called again to let me know it was taking longer for him to get the new tank because he had to go to a second warehouse to find the right tank.  As expected, he and his helper returned before long and installed the new tank.  Cory showed me what he had to do to adapt the water lines to the new tank that was taller than the old one.  The plastic water valve broke when he turned it on so he installed a new brass valve (a better deal) at no extra charge because he wanted to stay within the quoted price for the job.
Shari gave me a ballpark quote for the job of $800 when she first spoke with me to ensure that I was still interested in having them install the new tank.  When Cory arrived and looked the job over, he gave me a quote of $795.00.  The entire experience was professional--from the initial phone contact with Shari to the finished work by Cory.  They were concerned about accommodating my schedule and were respectful of my time.  Just before Cory left, he noticed some dirt on the floor by the new tank and, despite my saying I could clean it up, he insisted on cleaning it.  He said they want to ensure that the work is finished completely (including the clean up) before they leave.

They called when they were on their way so I could meet them. Two service guys were there waiting when I got home. They were courteous and efficient. They came into the condo, asked about the problem, then retrieved the necessary equipment from their van. They spent 25-30 minutes running a professional gauge snake down the kitchen sink drain. They had to try three times and go about 25 feet before it was cleared. They laid down a tarp, were careful about not scratching anything, and cleaned up afterwards. I thought the $125 rate was fair given the time they spent (about 45 minutes overall), the equipment they used, and the expertise they displayed.

My husband realized the hot water was out (while taking a shower, unfortunately). I called our regular plumbers Clinton and Scott Dykehouse (the father, Scott, is retiring and his son is taking over), but they were too busy to come right away, so he referred me to Kempton & Self. He warned me that they were a little pricey, but that he totally trusted their work. I called and they had someone come out that day. He was a young man, but very courteous and professional. We have the dumbest set-up in our garage for the water heater and the washer/dryer, and he had to move appliances to get to the water heater; I apologized and he was very kind about it, even making a suggestion for how to rework the set-up. It turned out that the pilot light on the heater was out. He relit it, going through the steps slowly and carefully, showing me how I could do it myself if it happened again. He said it could have simply gone out due to a glitch in the gas somewhere down the line, or it might be a part. He gave me a rough estimate of what it would cost if I wanted to replace the part. Because the water heater is old, I asked about the price to replace the whole water heater, and he gave me that as well. He told me that if the light went off again within 24 hours, they would come back, no charge. He also said I could call and they would walk me through relighting it if I needed to. While it did cost $107 for him to just come out and relight the pilot light, I didn't think the cost was too out of line. Just showing up can cost $60-75 for some businesses. About a week later, they sent a thank-you card with a hand-written note and a magnet, which I thought was a very nice (and savvy) touch. That was months ago, and we haven't needed to relight the pilot light since (I'm now looking for some wood to knock on!).
