Excellent experience with ABX. The guys arrived on time, were very professional, and the work was excellent....I would use them again.

First let me say, I am a renter and I have to replace the kitchen floor because the tile they had down was nicked when I was moving something into the kitchen so, I figured I would replace it with something nicer than what was originally down. When I saw this deal come through on Angie's List, I thought this is perfect and for a GREAT price! I purchased this deal on a Friday. When I heard from Chris of ABX Contracting through Angie's List messaging, he asked that I call on Monday to schedule an appointment. I thought that was fair since it was already the weekend. On Monday, I contacted Chris, didn't get an answer to, I left a voice message. I called again on Tuesday this time, he returned my call. He didn't sound very enthusiastic when I spoke with him. His first statement/question was "so you live at 2405 N. Marshall Street in Philadelphia!?" Then I thought he was confirming my address, now I believe he had an issue with where I lived from the beginning. We scheduled for him to come out on November 8, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. I was very excited. I didn't receive a confirmation call on Thursday which should have alerted me that there would be an issue. Then on Friday, November 8, 2013, I get a message that the tech was there and someone offered to sell him drugs, he didn't feel that it was safe to leave the materials in the car. But, come to find out, that was all made up. I had my daughter at the house waiting for the tech to come out, if he needed me there, I am only 20 minutes away but ALSO, the landlord was there because I asked him to be there just in case they needed their permission to do the work. The landlord also had a contractor there to do some work in the bathroom that needs to be addressed. So, come to find out, Chris was not being truthful. No one was outside of my home selling drugs. If he had an issue with the area that I live in, he should have just stated that from the beginning by saying "I do not do work in North Philadelphia". I will admit, that North Philadelphia has a bad reputation but, my street is not bad. I have had contractors at my home quite a few times, no one has had any problems. I have not had any problems and I live there with me and my children for the past 4 years now. So, now I have decided to just go to Home Depot or Lowe's and pick out what I want and have them do the install.

We looked at the tile size and the room is just too small for that size of tile.

Trying to get the scheduling of the work was not easy due to the company being over booked. I left several messages and my phone call was never returned. I finally was able to have an appointment scheduled and the gentleman was late because he was lost (which is understandable) but no one called me to advise me of the mishap or to let me know he would be late. Once we decided on what was going to be done, he spent the day taking the tiles up. We had to reschedule him to come out to put the tiles down. In speaking with his "boss", he was telling me the extra charges that would take place and explained to me that most customers purchase their own tile, even though the deal includes the tile. He informed me that they don't make any money off these big deals and that it's just their way of getting their foot in the door, which I think was unprofessional. I took the following Monday off for the work to be done and two guys show up with no material or supplies but inform me that the guy that was suppose to do the work called off for the day. I continously called the 302 # listed on this site to no avail. The guys had to leave because they had no tile and wasn't aware that there was a radiator, when the gentleman who was there should have noted that. I was called by another gentleman who was very nice and very professional and he asked me to have the guys come back the next day and they would waive my additional fees. I had an appointment the following morning but was home by noon. The men arrived at noon and finished the job that day. The tile looks nice and they were very nice. They took measurements to replace my tile in my kitchen and to put molding in my living and dining room and never sent me an estimate. They did leave footprints throughout my living room and steps...but overall I am pleased with the tile.

Not well. Called to make appointment, had to book several months in advance. As the date grew closer, concerned as contractor never came out to review job or provide estimate on additional services. Overall, lack of communication.

Excellent work! Chris's employees showed up on time as scheduled. Finished the backsplash in 1 day. I used glad subway tile which cost extra to install, but price was fair $93 extra. I would recommend them for their service and great work.

Very easy to work with Very through great job

Bought deal in August (20) and had difficulty scheduling with contractor. Sent pics and several repeated emails to get scheduled. Cancelled because of rain and no word since. Not worth chasing these people when they continually run more big deals without honoring the ones that are already purchased.

Provider did nothing, bought a big deal for some work, called him 3 times, never called me back.

ABX Contracting (Chuck and Sal) showed up exactly on time. Chuck determined what it was the guys would be doing, communicated the job to them, then went off to another job. He was replaced by Dave who was the one to be installing the tile. I've one word for the work Dave and Sal did - A-w-e-s-o-m-e! And not only is the work good, they had me in stitches just about all day, LOL! I will be calling them again come March for the next project I can't handle (insulation). I would definitely recommend them to others looking for tile work :)

Dennis arrived on time and completed the work neatly and reasonably.

Excellent job. Well constructed. The workers were very professional and friendly.

I had a contractor (who has since gone out of business) poorly install two window in the front of the house, leaving ripped framing and holes around the outside of the windows. ABX Contracting was the most responsive, and was one of the few interested in actually looking at my windows to see my situation. They were also the first to not try to sell me on new windows (the windows themselves are already new). That day, I had a price to perform the work. I scheduled it, they showed up promptly -- and, by the way, it should be noted that the person there to look at the problem originally was back to oversee everything. It was refreshing not having to listen for 15 minutes about how great they are, or having to fend off a pushy commission-based salesman. Instead, they let their work do the talking. I was extremely satisfied with the work -- the total quality, as well as the attention to detail -- that I showed them additional work that I needed to be done that day (reframing an exterior door). The price was reasonable, and again -- the work done exceeded my expectations. I would whole-heartedly recommend this company.

Chris from ABX Contracting sent me a message through your site. I called the number he left and left a voicemail. He did call back once but I missed the call and called right back but again no answer. Tried to call and send emails throug your site and ABX's but haven't heard back. I was trying to ask since August if the work could be done on Columbus Day so I wouldn't have to take off but I have never gotten a response

He did a really good job. He was really busy and this was a small thing that he did so it took a while for us to get together. I met him before and he came in and assessed it. He said about how much it would be. He called the night before. He was very professional. I liked his work and he did a good job. The price was very reasonable. He was here for 4 hours. I didn't compare his price because another guy didn't show up for an estimate before I had the work done. He was very friendly and professional. I liked him right off. We talked about him doing some other work.

There were some miscommunications at first, which delayed the job. But, once that was taken care of, the workers, Lou and Dennis did a great job. Also, the supervisor, Dave, was very helpful with keeping my material costs down, by informing me that they could use the old gutter and soffit instead of buying new ones. I had already purchased new ones and he could have just used them, so I appreciate him looking out for me.

Didn't show up when scheduled, but manager apologized and rescheduled. Once on site, they did a great job.

I am chatty. The two guys worked hard completed all the chores, and tolerated my talk. It was excellent.

Initial contact with the provider involved an unfortunate scheduling mixup, and I got stuck at home all morning waiting. They switched 2 appointments, so I lost that morning. Also, the notes on what needed to be done were not given over to the guys that showed up, which seems like bad communication. ***However, once it was rescheduled, the guys that showed up (Dave and Lou, I think) were professional, friendly, and took care of everything in under the 2 hours I had. Plus, they didn't just renail the board, they bought some heavy bolts and really secured it. Will call these guys again, and gave them an A because of the work quality and the guys who showed up were terriffic, I'm hoping that the scheduling and communication parts are something this company works on.

From the beginning I was very disappointed with not being able to reach this service provider in order to schedule the work. It appeared to me that this service provider was unequipped to handle the response received as a result of Angie's List. As it turned out, I had to wait over a month from date of purchase to the actual service date (which was today). The bad part about all of this is that the provider has no idea of what is expected until they show up on the day of the scheduled appointment. Every job is basically a surprise to them. As such, when they looked at the work I wanted done, they immediately said it would take around seven 8-hours days to complete as opposed to the 2-4 hours offered under the terms of the Big Deal.Although this is not the provider's fault, I am simply suggesting that maybe they would want to take a look at the proposed work ahead of time, before scheduling an appointment. I took ANOTHER DAY OFF FROM WORK to be there for this provider whose representative scheduled an earlier date/time for this appointment when he was not authorized to schedule appointments.As a result no one showed up the first time. The people who came out to perform the job were nice enough, but I remain very displeased with the waste of my valuable time.

I paid for 4 hrs of labor. When the contractor called me back 1 week after me paying he stated he was backed up until October 2013 (over 60 days away). He stated the only way he could fit me in was to send 2 men at 2 hours each versus 1 man at 4 hours. This didn't make much sense if he was already over extended. I was very clear on what was needed: siding replaced on a 4sf. area that had recently received repair work, caulking around windows and under deck in back of house due to faulty work of a contractor, and the installation of an attic stairs kit. The attic hole already existed. The kit stated it took approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to install the kit. I provided the name of the kit so he could look up the information. I also needed a quote for having an under deck water prevention kit installed (kit that keeps water from dripping through the slacks of a deck down to a patio. When the 2 workers arrived, they were ill prepared. They did not have tools to install the attic stairs. They initially stated they did not have caulk. However one of the workers found a tube in his car. They were not familiar with under deck systems or quoting a price for that type work. The workers were VERY polite and professional but had absolutely no knowledge of what the job entailed nor did they have the necessary tools. They clearly stated they did not have wrenches or sockets to install the attic stairs kit. I was going to offer they use my tools, but they came back to me stating it would take longer than 2 hours for them to install the stairs however, they could come back and install the stairs for FULL PRICE (go figure...what a shocker). They also stated they could not caulk around the windows, that I should just replace the siding. The workers told me they were never given information on what the job entailed which was the reason for them not having the necessary tools. So basically it took them 4 man hours (2 hours per man) to caulk a 5 ft run, replace a 2ft X 2ft section of siding, and screw in a bracket. I would NEVER use this company again. I believe they solicit on Angie's list to increase their customer base, having absolutely no intention of truly fulfilling the promises they are making through their promotions. They get you to pay up front and when they arrive they tell you they can only complete your job if you reschedule at full price.

It went very well and they finished up in one day with no trouble. They also were able to make it to my house within a couple of days of initial contact.

ABX provided great service. Chris was clear and accommodating when it came to scheduling the work. The showed up, quickly knocked out the work, and did a great job. It was a simple and painless experience. I would not hesitate to work with ABX in the future.

The contractors were great. They were on time and stayed until the job was finished, even though it was a bit longer than the time in the Big Deal. My only complaint is that they were difficult to get in touch with before the date of the appointment.
