Wow, where to start? I recently retired and sold my house earlier than anticipated. I had to work an additional six months, so I looked for an apartment close to work. I wish that I had read reviews first. I lived at Apple Chase for six months. The kitchen had roaches (and roach dirt) on top of the washer and dryer in the kitchen when I moved in. I sprayed the heck out of them the day I moved in and later found that they had moved out of the kitchen into the living room, which was then sprayed, too. One month later, I was required (notice left on the door on Friday) to empty out all of my kitchen and bathroom cabinets and drawers because the building was being treated for roaches on Monday. Couldn't they have done my unit while it was vacant? Or at least wiped up the roach dirt before I moved in? Fortunately we had just moved and were planning on moving again, so we had a bunch of plastic totes available. Where would you put all of that stuff otherwise? The washer broke a couple of times and the dryer was replaced once (in six months). We weren't living there with kids - these appliances didn't see a lot of use. The kitchen cabinets were hung at an angle that made my wife think that they were going to fall off of the wall. The upstairs bathroom leaked water onto my head (ewwwww!) while I was sitting in the bathroom (was it from the upstairs toilet? the shower?). We reported it, and I suppose that it was fixed, but we simply stopped using that bathroom. We could hear every little thing that went on in the apartment above us. Everything. Moans, bed squeaks, telephone calls - I'm glad that we didn't have kids there. The explanations would have been awkward. One morning, I found some guy sleeping on the floor in the common hallway as I left for work at 0400. He was at the bottom of the steps and came in, I suppose, to get out of the cold. He was gone when my wife left the house later, though. W**? When I went to move, Apple Chase claimed that I owed them additional rent for not giving them a sixty-day notice, even though I had rejected their renewal terms (see Del Landlord-Tenant Code section 5107). They also charged us over $800 to replace worn, stained carpet that I had complained about in writing when we moved in. They claimed that my small well-trained dog had damaged it (Not true! We had area rugs from our recently-sold house over top of much of the icky apartment carpet). Four days after I sent them a check for the amount they demanded (I was expecting a refund), I received a letter from a collection agency about the debt! I believe that they did this because we moved out of state and would not be able to pursue a Small Claims Court solution economically. If you move to Apple Chase, you will have bathrooms with no windows, a stove with no glass in the door that relies on pilot lights, a single-bowl sink with no rinser attachment, narrow drawers in the kitchen that won't hold most silverware keepers, a washing machine that sounds like a rocket ship on spin cycle that will vibrate everything off of your counters and you will have to deal with rental agents that think nothing of stealing deposit money from their tenants. This company literally stole two thousand dollars from us. I wouldn't recommend them to my ex-wife.
Description of Work: They provided us with an apartment for six months, then stole our deposit money (and an additional $500) from us, reporting us to a bill collection agency before we had even seen the bill.
