Jewelry Sales/Design/Repair, Antique and Jewelry Appraisal
I never write reviews, but was horrified to hear how the older gentleman who runs this store treatment my husband and four year old daughter today. My husband scheduled an appointment to have some of our jewelry appraised. He arrived at the appointment time with our young daughter. The older man who runs this place rudely greeted my husband and said he must be there to pawn jewelry. Despite his open hostility and insulting comments, my husband told him he was in fact there for his appointment. The man refused to help him until a younger man came out and remembered the appointment. Only then did he begrudging look at the jewelry. He snapped at my husband a few times that he wasn't following his directions! My husband is Indian and my daughter is of mixed race. Meanwhile, a white couple walked in who were treated nicely and professionally. We own a home two blocks away from this store and like to do business locally. However, we will not support a business that treats people badly and discriminates. I will ensure my neighbors know how we were treated.

Everything went very, very well. They are still working on a number of items for me and I have more to take to them. I brought in a few items that needed to be repaired and they have such a "can do" attitude. And the best of all - they do do what is requested.

I called Town Jewelers for an estimate on re-stringing my pearl necklace, after having been given an astoundingly high estimate ($135) in person at Fast Fix in the Pentagon City mall. When I called Town Jewelers, the person on the phone said they could do the work, but he said he could not give me any kind of estimate over the phone. I explained that their location was not convenient for me, and therefore I didn't want to travel all the way to the store if I wasn't going to ultimately have them do the work. I asked if he could at least give me a very general, ballpark type of estimate. He said no. I took my service elsewhere. Fortunately, through Angie's List, I discovered Werner Jewelers in Arlington. They gave me an estimate over the phone, and it turned out to be both extremely reasonable ($54 to re-string pearls and do a couple of minor repairs on costume jewelry pieces) and accurate (I did not pay any more for the work than was estimated). So I did not use Town Jewelers and do not plan to do so in the future. Their work might be fine for those in the neighborhood who find the location convenient, but don't go out of your way and don't expect an estimate over the phone!

I couldn't find any rated jewelry repair shops in the district on the list. This one is conveniently located on Connecticut in Cleveland Park. I went in to have my new watch sized and they did it in 5 minutes and then again when it was a little too tight. I was the only person in there and got immediate and attentive service. They even cleaned my ring to a sparkle like it hasn't seen in years. I don't remember an exact price but it was under $15. I recommend.
